If someone created a fake chip with a duplicate serial number, and set it set off alarms, how would the casino know who has the fake one and who is using a real chip. If the faker uses his chip first, and then the honest patron uses their real chip, the honest person would set off the alarm and be arrested. How would casino's know the difference, provided that the fake chip looks exactly like a real one?
So, your plan is to purchase a console and games that you obviously enjoy in a way that makes the M$ lose money, so that they don't make a next gen console since it is no longer profitable..... If you really don't like M$ products just don't buy them.
Thats alright, I end up throwing my books away every semester because the professor makes us buy the shiny new edition and the book store won't buy them back...
As computers get faster and hardware is improved, it will be easier and more feasible to brute force current encryption schemes in the future. I am assuming that this is what TFA means about holes.
None of these stuffy politicians ever played video games. They're simply too old for the golden era of gaming that is the 80's (galaga oh ya baby). People between 20-30 years old grew up on games, and they were mostly what would be considered kiddie games by today's standard. Now that we're adults, we want mature games. The kiddie games are still there for the children, but adults want their games too. The reason this is not an issue until now is becasue there was absolutely no market for an adult oriented game back in the day.
So true. It took me forever to get through HL2 and Doom3 because after I got over the wow factor, it was just the same old game. I used to be draw to pretty graphics like moths to a light, but not so much anymore.
No need to upgrade anything at this point. I have been using my athlon xp 2500+ kicked up to 3200+ and a 6600GT, and it plays anything flawlessly with all details up. Hardware lasts a lot longer than people tend to think. Even though games are coming out with minor improvements in graphics, nothing major has changed software wise to consider buy a $600+ video card just yet.
This is true, but its hard to find an older movie at blockbuster. My experience is that if an older movie is lost or damaged at blockbuster, they dont reorder it and I can't rent it again. The online renters have thousands more movies in stock, and also tv shows and things like that.
With online retailers, I have found netflix to have much faster turn around times than blockbuster online. Netflix also seems to have many more copies of movies and a better selection. Just my observations.
How quickly we forget why we are in this war in the first place: Bush's lies about weapons of mass destruction. It is our power and duty as american citizens to question the decisions our government makes, and the motives behind those decisions. This war in iraq is not in the best interest of the american people.
And besides, he was elected for a second term because of a bunch of theocratically minded christian zealots...
Possible solutions? How about identity tools such as image recognition, holographic barcodes on the item itself, RFID, etched serial numbers, etc.
Either that or maybe they should train their employees to tell the difference between Rolex and Timex. If they were to try such a scam against employees whoa ctually know their stock, then it wouldn't work. So, maybe more training and less reliance on non-human controls would be better.
That would mean they would actually have to pay employees more and, oh my god, give them proper benefits too!!!! See, the main problem is that retail has such a high employee turn over that once someone is trained they are either off to college or have found a better job. The problem with retailers (I know I've worked for them plenty) is that they want you to be dedicated to the company, but they don't want to pay much for your service (cough cough wal-mart cough)
In my classes at least, the prof's aren't just saying "write comments or you get -10 pointes." They actually give us an outline of what a good comment block for a function would look like and what it should include. Comments don't have to be fine literature, they just need to provide some concise important info that helps a reader understand the code. Like I said, I don't know how other classes are taught, but this is how mine are.
I've been using this drug for years... its called bawls
In Soviet Russia, the sites refresh you!
I agree, something definately seems screwed up on /. this morning....

I think all spammers deserve to spend osme time in the federal PMITA prison.......

I think he was arrested because he sold the virtual goods for real world cash.

The best thing about BBSing was the games! Any fellow LORD or Usurper players out there? Can these be considered precursers to the MMORPG's of today?
Many hours wasted playing those darn text games...

For most FPS's now, like CS:S, you die after a couple of hits anyway, so keeping track of stats isn't that much of an issue anyway.
When I can afford a monitor with a 1680x1050 native resolution, I'll buy myself the expensive vid card to go with it ;)

The best way of debugging lisp is to keep adding closing parantheses until the interpreter stops giving you errors...

Personally, I never had my parents buy me a laptop... most of what I own was purchased by me because I worked since I was 16 years old.
A kid will be more likely to take care of their expensive laptop if they've earned and payed for it themselves.
