We're hardly on our "nationalistic high horses". Believe it or not, the world isn't one giant country - and different countries will have different curriculums and standards. Not so much in hard sciences like physics/chemistry/etc, although there are many regional differences; spelling/imperial-metric measurements, laws and views on controversial science such as cloning, and quotes or facts from American based institutions (eg, 'the FDA says this-that-and-the-other about such-and-such a drug). The main concern is on "soft-science" or non-science subjects - the rest of the world has little concern for America's history, geography, literature or politics - it's just not relevant to us.

If they ever did translate copyrighted material into other languages, they would probably overlook these things, or not include regional instances etc (although this would certainly be fixed by the wiki crowd)... And they would most likely make only one english translation..

However, the good looking man already in the lower class in very unlikely to be picked out of it by a wealthy woman. Infact, what is likely is that he will have more children, by more (lower class) women, than his upper class counter parts.

If you take grandparent's hypothesis to be true (that poor people are generally uglier, and that pretty people move up) then the good looking men among the poor will breed with the average/ugly women among the poor (since, as you say, they won't move up, and they dont have any other choice) and have (theoretically) average looking children. The children will then have their own children with other average-to-ugly people; ie, the lower class will converge (head towards but never quite reach) towards ugly. However, since we're dealing with a population and not a pot of paint, there will be instances of both particularly ugly and particularly good looking people. The good looking women will move up (subtracting from the available 'beauty pool') and the good looking men will stay, changing very little (although marginally improving the poor pool, since they're disposed to have more children). It's kind of like grass - the tall get cut, so everything that height or below stays, thereby shrinking the average height of the grass.

I don't know about the USA, but in a lot of other industrialised countries, people who are both talented and cunning enough can break into higher classes, bringing with them (perhaps) ugliness, thus diluting the prettyness of the rich; and conversely, rich people can fall if they are untalented or foolish. By the same logic as TFA, the STUPID end up at the bottom, with prettyness being distributed relatively evenly between the middle and upper classes.. although I grew up in a reasonably affluent area, and believe me - that sifting process either isn't happening or hasn't progressed much... the stupid certainly haven't fallen yet :(

CRTs still have quite a large niche - young/poor people, and have many advantages over LCDs/Plasmas/these new fangled Laser TVs. I am sitting in front of 2 21" CRTs which I picked up off eBay for less than $100AU each; that's much less than a poor quality 15" LCD (~$150AU). The only disadvantage is they are bigger (but who uses the space behind their screens anyway?), heavier (harder to steal, an important factor if you live in a poor area), and use more power (although the extra money you spend on your power bill is still less than what you saved). So long as you're willing to get a decent model (which sets you back maybe $5) you can get 120Hz-160Hz refresh rate, so they aren't going to cause any eye irritations barring you having an accute medical condition. Plus, they are much hardier than LCDs (anything you could do to damage a CRT would most certainly completely destroy an LCD), and (at least in my experience) last a lot longer than LCDs. If you say "but CRTs don't look good, I want to impress people with my LCD" then maybe you should think more about impressing people with yourself and less about impressing them with your computer equipment :P.

With all the components (optical drive, ATX mobo, expansion cards and HDDs), there's almost no reasonable way to make it more space-efficient (ie, takes up less space) without seriously compromising heat dissipation. Since almost every computer component is very close in shape to a rectangular prism/rectangle, and rectangular prisms tesselate most easily with other rectangular prisms, there's no way to radically change the shape of the box without wasting space or making the whole thing very very hard to cool. Also, most computer desks or spaces assigned for towers are rectangular.. so the only practical entries into this will still have to retain the rectangle shape to be 'backward compatible' with the already existing components.
