If you play obscure games, the cheater-to-regular player ratio is astronomically lower than in more popular games. This is probably because,
1) smaller games have more tightly knit communities, and cheaters have very few servers to toy with before they find themselves entirely banned from the game
2) there are less people that are skilled enough to code, immoral enough to cheat and care about said obscure game
3) cheaters are naturally attracted to large games, because for whatever reason they might cheat, it wouldn't be as enjoyable against a smaller number of people
I've been playing C&C Renegade (its an FPS; but I'm sure there are lots of RPGs, MMOs or strats that are as good and as obscure) for a few years now, and the anti-cheating program for it only works because the exploits are found slowly enough that the anti-cheat program can keep up.
Not to be a fanboi here, but use Gmail... I used to get phishing mail all the time in hotmail/my ISP provided POP3 account, but now i get none:) and I have 3 gmail accounts
I have an LGU8360 which has exactly the same problem - it charges through the same port as the USB data port BUT IT WON'T CHARGE THE PHONE WITH THE USB CABLE! Worst of all is that, when transfering data (it has an incredibly slow data modem, i think it's a 14.4kbps modem) the external screen displays the "connected" image... so if I leave the data to transfer overnight (necessary for anything that is over about 50mb) the external screen drains the power. If it had a seperate data to power port OR it charged via USB, this wouldn't be a problem...
This ALSO upsets it's ability to serve as a (very expensive and slow) modem when connected to laptops etc, since it drains all its power quite quickly, what with the screen being on and the transmitter/reciever working overtime.
Its only saving grace in this regard is that, it lasts forever off a full charge (much longer than other 3G phones with comparable screen sizes) so it won't be completely drained when I unplug it the next morning.
IANAT-M, but I'd be willing to bet they're too jaded and bitter to care about "company loyalty"... sure they get paid by commission, but when you think about it that way, they'd also be competing against everyone in their company - so there wouldn't be any particular hostility towards rival companys' telemarketers.
I think the idea is, thousands of people could file a class action suit.. or, large email servers (ISPs, gmail, etc) could sue for thousands of instances of the same spam.. it all adds up.
Well there's also an effective solution to this corporate human-shield-ing (which is what this lady did - and you can bet there'll be a lot of smoke and dance because she did), which is to go to the media and make a big stink there. The higher ups can't pass the blame downwards, although they can (and do) try.
Unfortunately, since this IS *the real world*, this 'watchdog' system may be a little TOO effective; the media wields too much power, and no longer spend so much time and effort fighting for good causes. This is what happens when the watchdog has their own set of agendas (ie, ratings).
I think the idea is that, instead of spending $200 on a dvd player you could spend that same money on the computer that you already have/were going to get (lets face it, who in this day and age has a DVD player but not a computer?)
Back in the old days the only experiments done with mice ended up with them getting cancer or some other miserable disease; but now they're getting happy pills... Methinks the little b*stards have formed a union...
PS. Don't post here pointing out it wasn't a "pill" - it's a figure of speech.
You, of course, would know this.. because you have been absolutely everywhere else in the world?
someone mod parent up, s/he still finds the time to stop and post on slashdot even whilst travelling non-stop!
I wholeheartedly agree.. even though I am right handed, I've found that PC gaming left-handed-style is much better, as your thumb can reach ctrl+alt+space on WSAD games (shooters and the such). Plus, it means your hands can be in the middle of the desk instead of the keyboard (good for those with small, cluttered or tiered desks)
As for the OT, a very untechy (probably taboo here on/.:P) idea would be to just learn a lot of keyboard shortcuts. For example, instead of clicking to switch windows, use alt+tab. Or instead of clicking buttons, tab-scroll+enter. Assuming the patient in question has not got a technical or speciality role, s/he probably sticks mainly to word processing/spreadsheet type programs. Most office type programs have pre-programmed shortcut keys for almost every function.
I don't know about all this nation-versus-nation - who-is-stupider contest.. We can all probably just agree that all politicians are stupid and evil regardless of nationality.
Besides, John Howard *is* copping a lot of flak for trying to make us America Jnr.:P
They also have this (ADSL2+) arrangement in Australia.
My ISP (Telstra Bigpond..) (who I am dumping as soon as the contract expires) offers 'cable' which is literally capped to 1MB/s (across every plan they offer) even though they have more than enough infrastructure and money to offer triple this to everyone on their network. Also, they are the only ISP that I have found that count upload towards limits, so this should give a rough idea how scummy the large ISPs' services are..
yeah, thats because its slashdot....we post comments in reply/rebuttal/our-two-cents to articles..and this one was about dogs!
anyways, this thread has veered WAY off topic from dogs:)
(ps: not a troll)
I completely agree with you. But if they WERE to release an.MP4 version complete with ads, people would skip the commercials. Hell, I even skip the introduction bit on my DVD rips (its ok, i own legit copies of said DVDs:P). I would DEFINITELY skip over the commercials if it were released in a non-crippled format. And if I skipped over the commercials (and thus underwrote their advertiser's power), they would have no reason to release their shows on the internet.
Granted, I normally go do something else in the adbreaks, so it's basically the same as skipping over the ads if I could, but TV companies are NEVER going to do anything to make viewers lives easier, especially if there's a worse (for us) option available.
We have computers fast enough to be able to cope with real world physics in realtime, and now muscles much more powerful than their human equivalents powered by a portable energy source..
Surely this is all we need to make a decent mass market bipedal robot?
........A simple counter to the mainstream news' report is counter-claiming that the news is addictive, since many people get upset and agitated without knowing what's going on, and even (gasp) pay lots of money to get their fix (magazine susbscriptions, cable bills, buying newspapers etc).
It's just the same logic that led them (the mainstream media) to say that games are like drugs....
If some parents are "fools and are poor role models", then the children have BIGGER problems than a violent streak that may or may not be caused by violent video games. (You "moral activists" are yet to PROVE that emulated violence encourages actual violence, and not that the children who play violent games do so because they already have naturally violent tendancies).
Secondly, violent games are not things that encourages breaking the law any more than Goldilocks And The Three Bears encourages unlawful tresspass, theft and vandalism. In fact, the only difference between one and the other is that one actively portrays the fact that the character's actions are {immoral and illegal}, whilst the other views the damage as nothing but "harmless fun".
Moreover, young (and easily influenced) children are not the only ones interested in playing these games; many responsible and adjusted adults are also interested in playing. Alcohol is illegal for children (under 18, in Australia at least), but that doesn't mean an outright ban, just because it is bad for children (worse than a violent video game, that's for sure). Same with many movies, TV shows and certain Nightclubs. That's why there are ratings systems . Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, just because you are too irresponsible or lazy to raise your children properly. Not all of us had children. It is at YOUR detriment to raise them properly, NOT OURS.
PS. [Quote]"..the difference between make-believe and "pretend".. " There isn't anything substantially different between "make-believe" and "pretend". Proof-read your comment, dumbass.
In a lot of fps'ers (I can't think of anything specific atm, but..) there is almost always an exploit or a trick to killing them. In parent, it's hiding behind a pillar (in Hexen) etc.
Hm not an all that useful post now that I read it over:(
...letting callers decide whether they'd like to interrupt based on this information."
.......Has anyone else noticed the paradox there? Surely to ask you if you don't mind being interrupted, it'd have to interrupt you?:|
Also, it seems to me that the kind of people who would buy a "polite" cellphone (or conversely if they become mainstream, bother programming times in) are the kinds of people who switch their cells to "silent" or "off" during movies. The jerks out there are still going to recieve loud calls in the cinema and hold up traffic for their conversation, even if this does become popular

hahaha, did you mean, through Windows (tm) or through windows (is it open or did someone polish the glass really well?)
No-one ever said they were original. Evil, but not original.

He also runs (ran?) a zoo (Australia Zoo) with his family, so at least his family will be set financially (his oldest even performs in some shows)

Nah, its just because 'mericans like to be different.. or cbf spelling out words in full? See: colo(u)r, thr(o)u(gh), neighbo(u)r, program(me), etc
