I was just reading something interesting as well. Intel plans on releasing the next platform chip Santa Rosa before the final standard. Santa Rosa will supposedly have the new 802.11n centrino technology. Check out the news story here http://news.com.com/2061-10791_3-6110311.html
I need more slack at work. How else am I supposed to kill 30 undead ravagers and return to Brother Anton at Nijel's Point. I keep getting interrupted and it is really pissing me off.
Legislation isn't going to help all of these companies start producing antibiotics. There just isn't a huge financial incentive for these companies to do so, especially as more and more so-called "first line" antibiotics go generic and become cheaper.
Look at this example:
Doctor writes prescription for "Zithromax" antibiotic by Pfizer, cost from pharmacy approx $60, one time prescription.
Doctor writes prescription for "Lipitor", cholesterol med from Pfizer, cost from pharmacy approx $130/month. This prescription will be taken INDEFINITELY!!! Granted other medicines will come along, and cheaper ones will take it's place, but you tell me where you would put your R & D money?
It's the "lifetime" meds that are the money makers here. New laws aren't going to change that fact.
We're talking about a "must" upgrade here but what about the specs necessary to run it? Sure it's going to be better, but joe-average can't even buy a computer now and be assured that it will even run vista.
At my clinic where there is an EHR (Electronic Health Record) there is built in redundancy with multiple servers in different locations. It is hard to believe that a hospital system as big as Providence (which owns hospitals in multiple NW states) could have something as stupid as someone taking home a backup in their car.
Read the link to the article at Thinksecret. It's more than about Frontrow. The short paragraph linking to the article doesn't really describe it well. Really quite interesting about storage on iDisk and such.
Yes I know, it was a purposeful oversimplification. My point was also showing that jumping from yeast cells to mice is overly optimistic at best, and that transferring such a mutation from a single cell organism to a mammal may lead to unforseen consequences.
We have cells already that are not governed by the normal life/death cell cycle. It's called CANCER. Cancer cells have autononmous growth and multiply indefinitely.
Tivo is going to be hard to resurrect. Their death started accelerating when they started their DRM schemes recently (i.e., machines deleting recorded programs after a certain amount of time).
I'm really wondering with the recent rootkit/DRM Sony news if this will result in any substantial backlash against Sony. In particular, I'm curious how this will factor into the next gen high def DVD wars, since Sony is an obvious big player in the Blu-ray camp. I used to be pro Blu-ray but now with this recent news I find myself agreeing with the HD-DVD camp more and more. Do we really want Sony heading up any major future electronic standards?
I think that most people who are surprised by this success aren't realizing that the majority of the population are not the slashdot nerd type. People want EASY downloads, sync and play with no hassles. They don't want Bittorrent downloads that they have to burn on to a memory stick and alter the video codec to perform on an incompatible processor. Sure, that's a made-up scenario but the point is that what most of you find easy to do on your computer is incomprehensible to the majority.
The recordable DVD format wars really ended up without too much of a problem, however. DVD multiformat drives exist, my DVD burner can record DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+/-RW and so on. The outlier is DVD-RAM and much fewer people use that. Blu-ray and HD-DVD are incompatible and much less likely to see players that support both systems, as were VHS and Betamax.
