I have had similar discussions with people about the plausibility of creating a "liquid bomb". When I tell them how impractical it is and what would be required to do so, I usually get blank stares. It is unfortunate that many in our society have turned off their brains and live by what they are told.
I for one am worried to do much more than complain about on forums and post because of the erosion of rights. I know a couple of people that are on "the list". When they asked how or why they got put on the list and what they can do to remove themselves from it, they were told nothing. One guy on this list is retired military, his son is in the military, and is extremely patriotic. I believe we are at a turning point either we can continue to just watch and see it turn for the worst or we can use our voice and start a grassroots movement to wake up Congress and have them pull their heads out of their asses. If we don't do anything, history will repeat itself.
I totally agree with previous poster and think we should be able to moderate editors. Yeah, that would be great, especially the part where they could be banned for 72 hours for lots of negative moderation. Go on, mod me down, haven't you looked at my sig.
Your sentiment is nice, however culture and community dictate the perceived views pertaining to not only marriage, but to all aspects of life. Take a look at any culture today and throughout time and you will see that the community has dictated what was accepted. The main reason for this being it is easier to survive as a community than as a collective of single entities. People will by habit always tend to congregate for safety and acceptance, as human beings are social beings.( Aside from some of us geeks that don't socially integrate well because we know we are superior./.)
Until Linux is pre-installed, it won't matter to the majority of home users.
That's because the majority of home users do NOT upgrade their OS. They use whatever was installed by the OEM. They use the drivers provided by the OEM. They won't even install and update anti-virus software.
I totally I agree. I work part-time at Geek Squad for the discount and to keep up on current viruses, and you wouldn't believe how people won't install their own programs. People will come in and ask for the current anti-virus and then ask us to install it. There is not alot to installing programs like anti-virus or Office. People just don't want to mess with PC's or are literally afraid of them. I've just started to play around with Linux and most people are going to look at you like a deer in head lights when on some distros you have to use command line to install things.
You have drawn an incorrect conclusion, it absors and redirects light from bouncing off of it. You would still be able to see light coming from another object. What you would want to do though is create googles that where made of so called material on one side so not to let any light back out.
I have to agree with this poster. I'll take it one step further. If they are unable to provide a more visible difference affordablly; this could very easily end up like SACD for both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. The only reason DVD Audio has been doing ok is that you do not have to buy a new player. Go figure.
I can't help myself... with a strong rubber boot that fits snuggly around it, especially if you're active, pay a premium for something I could rely on to take a beating That's what she said!!!
Just because people own a PS3 doesn't mean they will automatically buy blu-ray media, which is more expensive. After you buy your over priced consule; you then have a price point of $60-$100 dollars for games. What 'I live in my mother's basement' guy is going to be able to afford replacing his dvd collection on top of purchasing his PS$ system and PS$ games??? You are assuming Sony planned far enough ahead to have enough blu-ray diodes when they haven't even began production of the system. I believe you will see extreme shortages of the PS$ system. Now if only I can find a place taking preorders, I can sell them on ebay and demand payment in souls.
Yeah, I was abit heavy handed, but someone had to give him the real meal deal. So mod me up for being right.
At the risk of loosing my Karma again, I will try to explain this fun stuff.
First point, just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they are wrong. The assumption that evolution is science fact is not entirely correct. There are holes in it that leave some people doubting that has nothing to do with faith. I would like to point out that there is a difference between micro-evolution and macro-evolution. I do not believe that anyone doubts micro-evoluion. It is usually a question of lesser species evolving into newer and higher species.
Second point, this despite the emotional response, is nothing like what Copernicus or Galileo faced. People that believe in evolution are not being hunted down and being theatened with death. From the article, over 50% of Americans do belive in evolution. Copernicus and Galileo were in the extreme minority of their times of probally 5-10 percent believing that the Sun was the center of the solar system.
-largely because of widespread fundamentalism and the politicization of science This is quite a politican statement in itself. This is obviously trying to blame a way of thought, right or wrong, in a tone that comes across as demeaning. I think that this rather shows the uniqueness of America. Where you are free to believe what you want; wrong, right, or indifferent. There are some people that will never change despite the facts. But most people if approached in a rational, non-condescending manner, will listen and be willing to debate. However, name calling and elitism usually doesn't work and usually hardens people's resolve that they are correct. As the proverb goes, it is easier to attarct bees with honey than vinegar.
I was about to be concerned when I noticed the article was in the Register. Whewww... that was a close call. Now if this showed in the Times or Newsweek, I might wet myself a little.
First problem with a project this large is the sheer scope of what you're trying to do. You need one hell of an IT infrastructure to pull something like this off. We are talking about a major telecomm upgrade that will cost billions. France over the past couple of years has upgrade their's and they spent around 12 billion I believe. That is just one discipline. You still have hardware, application, and security. Oh... I forgot delivery and support. This would be a PMOB (Project Mobilization) from hell.
I will start by saying I don't know as much about the UK process of governing and checks and balances. I would hope my limey friends would have something in place to check or limit the ability of something like this happening. If not, you had better remember the 5th of November and all don your Guy Fox masks and stage a rebellion. Seriously, if this is even remotely in the works the citizens of the UK need to unify and do something, preferribly something non-violent to start with. Well, that's my $0.02.
Although it has gotten better, lag is still an issue with Xbox Live. More than likely what they are doing with this game is the same thing they do with Halo2 on live. They set one of the people as host and the only thing the server does is game match. This can cause all sorts of issues, especially in Halo2 where the engine has some network code issues. You have the annoying button lapse to hits not registring at all. Usually, however the host has the advantage. They move a little quicker, hit a little harder, and can take more damage. Centralizing everything is more expensive, but will negate host issues and you could also run programs like punk buster to keep people from cheating. That's my $0.02.
There is the first problem, comparing what should be done in America to what is going on in other countries. We have certain rights called the Bill of Rights that have been being overlooked by people scarried of their own shadow because they think some big bad Muslim is going to kill them and their children. Instead of fighting for real protection instead of an illusion of protection, they stick their heads in the sand like an ostrich.
But as long as all the data isn't being fed directly to the government I doubt there will be many abuses.
I guess he doesn't realize that one, the police are part of the government and that two, it is Homeland Security/NSA/FBI that will be requesting the data. If I use or don't My Space or Facebook is none of your fucking business. It is called the first Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." This falls under peaceably to assemble because people meet here to hang out and make friends online. Lets go to the fourh Amendment: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." First you have to have 'probable' cause and not 'possible' cause, then you can issue a warrant to obtain the information. The right of the people to be secure is of the utmost. Nobody has the right to take my papers/webpages or effects/digital content for their purposes.
We have a voice here at/., maybe we should start to gather and lobby ourselves. And no I'm not a democrat but a republican and Bush's policies suck.
I think I recognize this as an outright lie. A heavyweight like HP at the mercies of Best Buy, please. If that's so I've got some swampland in Florida to sell you. Besides, buying USB cables really doesn't have anything to do with what GeekSquad does or doesn't do to a computer.
First Morrowind was only rated Teen. I have seen a few post stating that it was Mature, but that is incorrect.
I would like to bring a game into discussion that has been modded especially for nudity and has never been rerated. Tomb Raider!!! This game has been modded so that there are even websites to bring attention to the nude factor. It sound like Jackass Thompson just has a hard-on for Take-Two and has to falsify press releases just to get attention. And to think there are jackasses out there who believe the shit that spews from his and Hillary Dildo Clinton's ass.
The video game industry needs someone John Denver like to bat for them. (the John Denver reference relates to when McCollum's parents filed suit against Ozzy for their son committing suicide) Someone that will make politicians wake up and say... hmm... I guess we are responsible for our own actions.

so now we no what Hell freezing over will be like. Come to Titan... where your mother-in-law will actually like you!!!
as a species we are not going to bend over backwards and harm our own civilization to save another species.
Yeah, we harm our own civilization quite well by ourselves thank you. Just look at our current president. =(

If the French oppose, it must be good.
From what I've read about Intel's quad-core; it is not native like AMD's will be. They are basically are going to have two dual core's and they will communicate via FSB. That sucks compare to AMD's offering which will be native._ frontpage&Itemid=1&limit=10&limitstart=20

I suppose next they're going to ban chinese take-out as well.
Chinese food may lead to Maoism. Protect yourself and your family with Freedom fries and toast!!! The American thing to do.
What the hell!!! How does posting a link to the trailer get mod up when it is in the article??? Here you go http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/05/11/ 1222235
I should get some killer mods now.
76 was a good year
What most people seem to be missing is that no HDMI output means no Blu-ray movie support.
Movies need HDCP encryption which will only come on the PS3 through an HDMI socket.
So, unless you fork out the extra cash...
