I don't think that's true. I think your level of expectation of profit is skewed. Now a game like HL2 and Halo sells millions and millions of units brining in Millions and millions of $$$. Commander Keen and Wolfenstein did not do that.

I think that indie game devels have a chance to make money just fine. I don't mind dropping $20-30 on an Uplink or something similar. And those houses are still around. You just don't hear their tales as often. Yes lots of them fail, but lots of businesses fail too. Just because you love making games doesn't mean you will succeed. For every Commander Keen there were probably dozens of fine shareware games that never got broad notice. I'd say with the internet there's a better chance small games will make a decent profit by word of mouth.

I got an N-Gage QD when I needed a new phone because after rebates it was $0 with a bluetooth headset. I love it.

I have a great NES Emulator it, great gameboy, AgileChat for IM, PuTTY that actually is workable enough to connect and run some specially made bash scripts, Opera, and some really fun games. I'm addicted to Tony Hawk it's so much like the original on PS1. The only thing that doesn't exist in the QD is Stereo sound :( but I have an iPod.

All in all I think had they not released the original Ngage they would have done much better. That's what you get when you rush product without QA and test groups.

I don't think you realize that this "crap" is a hobby for a lot of people. They really enjoy playing with the most updated roster.

Fantasy Sports are a major growing market and Madden is letting you be more and more in control of your team in a General Manager type way. This appeals to an awful lot of football fans who will pay $50 a year to play.

Some people pay $10/month to play their MMORPG's I don't see what's so bad about a one-time $50 fee to play with the latest players and their stats. People pay that much to play in fantasy leagues. Granted they have access to updated stats, but I wouldn't be surprised to see within the next 5 years Madden updating itself weekly.

Don't be so mean to one thing just because you don't enjoy it. You could have made your point by saying
You do realise you don't HAVE to buy it right?

It's a shame the Ngage will fail. I hope it holds on to a niche market. As an "adult" I find having a phone & game (ngage QD) in one is great. Tony Hawk is just as much fun as my good old Dreamcast version. And my NES emu rocks my socks with old school goodness. And it has bluetooth! Which I thought was a gimmick but now I can't go without. And after rebate I paid nothing for the thing with a new one year contract. Sidetalkin was funny but truth be told the QD is a hell of a gadget!

On this product launch there was the 6800 Ultra & the X800 XT and X800 XT PE.

They're not mass market, just like the Intel EE and the AMD FX CPU's aren't mass market. Really fast & really expensive.
