I work as a framework architect. And I must say.... you always need a framework (Unless you are going to develop a small application with a couple of forms and a few queries). For big systems, if you are not going to use a third party framework you will have at least to develop your own. When working with a team of 40 or more people, leting they develop in the limits of the programming is asking for trouble, as the final result will be a code soup that you will not be able to maintain. Even if you ask for some standards you will find that there will be many solutions for the same problems, and having to fix something simple like the background color of your app may take days.
A well designed framework will limit developers to a smaller sandbox. They will have to make simple configurations and worry only with use case defined system logic.
Well... that was funny I must say.
But being a brazilian, a native portuguese speaker, I somehow feel offended by this kind of post (I even checked if the story category was english gramatics or something). I don't feel obligated to speak english perfectly when most americans also can't do it. But maybe I'm just over reacting...
Two ideas.
1 - It's supposed to be a breakthrough that would even cure HIV. If you could google it you could have discovered it by yourself.
2 - People say pineapple helps cure cancer. The fact you can google pineapple and a lot of medics say pineapple is healthy don't make this true.
You are taking the company is evil stuff to seriously. When you work at a company you ARE the company. The company is the hand that feeds you... and you shouldn't bite it. Better company profits means more chance of you getting a raise or even a profit bonus. If you think their products sucks (or that they are evil) you shouldn't be working for it at first place.
I think they should test colour blind people that are native american. They would see shades of gray. Also they could test how fast colour blind cand identify shades of gray when compared to normal people. Maybe they are faster even if the colour names are the same.
Could be some interesting experiments.
I guess maybe they could realize people don't even think about the color name when identifying it in the brain.
"Britons becoming convinced of evolution"
"More than half of britons don't believe ID anymore"
I mean... 50 years ago wasn't ID a big majority? Evolution seems to be getting more and more accepted.
The article seems to be just more like a flamebait, and could be writen to show evolution is getting widelly accepted. But I think maybe it wouldn't attract so many interest....
All this make me think a lot in the scientists in 1400 and before. When a lot of people used to say based on observation that the earth should be flat. Too bad it will still take a few centuries till we can laugh of ourselves on this one. I know there is a huge difference in science now, but the idea is still the same.
This guy is a freak. The flaw looks like a coding bug. As a coder it is usual for you to forget to check or validate some stuff sometimes. Sometimes you even forget some debug code on your apps. Now saying that this was really intentional is like saying NASA didn't land on the moon. That's because the only use for an intentional flaw like this are Microsoft plans for World Domination by means of takeover of every personal computer on this planet(...)
I could even RTFA if today I wasn't 32% bored, 48% unhappy and 20% wishing to kill.
Their trying to measure something that can't be. Trying to say Monalisa was happy by her smile is like saying a book is good by seeing it's cover.
It would be much nicer if their answer was 42.
If you look at the girls in the article... that are the 2004 contestants... you'll see the winner (Kaya) won exactly because she was draw with human imperfections (her skin don't look so smooth neither poreless)
Actually, this is not a dupe because it's Miss Digital World 2005, not 2004. And the winner this year is Mi, not Kaya. But the article linked is from 2004's final... But (again) the pictures look to be from 2005.

That is not true. In emule there is a simple tatic that is pretty effective. The company create fake clients... Now this clients accepts everyone's request for file parts and start sending bad blocks. It would be fine, since the integrity is checked... but this clients transmit the blocks to you at the minimum speed possible. Like 3 b/s. You take a long time to realize the block is bad and have to start it over. It caused about 1 Gb of corrupted download parts on a single night. A friend of mine told me that since I don't download piracy... really ^_^
Here you can see Minerva (and it's cover) saying "so long and thanks for all the batteries" (In japanese, of course). Also there are pictures of Hayabusa taken from Minerva (first 2)
to protected theirselves. There are evil companies, but there are also evil people. Some people exploit some products to earn easy money by suing companies in the most stupid and unfair ways. Therefore, when making a product eula you must obligate the user to accept he is respnsible for its use.
Or just wait to be sued by someone that says he got hacked by someone that used your mine sweeper software to steal his bank acount number.
You should read the comment about moore's law and the 18 month thing. In the future we may not have computers or game consoles because we already have a cell phone.
It looks like a regular cat, but it's closer to the camera. You can even see that it has at least a motorbike between then. Looks like hoaxes are taking control of/. this days.
I don't think so. It's the same with Far Cry. The 64 bit version runs a little faster and with more details (mostly lighting, drawing distance and apparently more polys). The 32 bit version was made before the 64, so the 32 made crappier on purpose argument is not valid for it.
We may conclude the 64 bits version just runs faster, and allows for more CPU usage (or maybe allows more GPU usage?).
What about a nuclear WMD inside the deflector ship? What are the effects of a nuclear explosion in space? Wouldn't it have a more desirable effect? (Also the pictures of it would be much cooler...):)

This question is kind of project specific. It's much like comparing the source code and development quality of windows and linux. One thing is quality of a product, the other is how much money did you spend while making it. A lot of money makes a better looking product, but it doesn't mean it is high quality (and surely I'm not saying Civ4 will be low qual... I can't even wait for it:)).
The current theory is found in this link
These details don't matter. They did a solution (optimized or not) and it works. While there is no competition they will make the market price.

The WMF flaw IS a backdoor. It's just not INTENTIONAL.
