In Western countries we don't have that issue partially due to the fact that just about everyone is more than happy to stab you in the back at the first sign of an extra buck being in thier bank account at the end of the day. We are individualistic, self destructive, egotistical and in general horrible people in how most in the "civilized west" act. In Asian countries and especially Japan people generaly tend to be close to more of a huge community that while everyone has thier wants they try to keep it less destructive (name me one Japanese Enron).

Imagine for instance instead of everyone in your country being less like faceless individuals that you could give two shits about as you flip them off for cutting you off. It's closer to a country full of very close family & friends. Now imagine you did something very stupid to those friends & family you really like (like lost 50 grand or bankrupted a buisness and ruined a few lives). You'd feel a few flavors of shit and probably try to avoid those people again. Problem is the Japanese can't just avoid the people as a whole. Something like honor & reputation really mean allot there and if you don't have it your not worth much.

Yeah, but unlike your examples buyer beware remains and will continue to stand. Ever try to buy a used car like...ever? There's a perfect example right there. The moment the limited warranty you get from a dealership runs out or if you buy the car from a personal party it's on your head once you hand the money over. This world can not function on 30-day money back guarantees. Just contracts. Too many people exploit such things. Hell I know how to make those 5 year warranties work for me (I don't buy something unless it's going to get used extensively), but generally you lose out on those.

I love your baseless attacks on a group of people though. If you knew fuck all about how such things like eBay works (for instance) you'd know I actually make part of my living off of Ebay "Bid Sniping," bidding on improperly listed items, consignments, and selling on Ebay (Police & Estate Auctions rock). The only repeated problem I've ever had with buyers (and sellers to some extent) is complete lack of ability to show a little bit of intelligence and read something that is a contract. It's amazing no matter how many times you put something is used in a description people can get the idea that something is shrink-wrapped new.

It's a good thing the whole slavery and big guys beating up on the big guys thing was taken care of though. At least the conscious action of it. People may think such things are dead, but they've just taken a new form. Slavery is just in the form of paper money and a if your not a good drone your supply will be taken away or lessened and the people with the whip just make more when they run low (and "real" slavery still does exist in every country still it's not kicking you in the balls like it used to. Just because it's illegal doesn't mean it doesn't exist). Oh and the big guy beating up on the little guy. Yeah that never happens. Bosses shit on their employees all the time, big companies take people with less money to court (doesn't matter if they have a case), and bigger people still beat smaller people.

Such inefficiencies of society never go away. They just change shape until people become complacent with them or manage to, "get on the other side of the fence."

For the most part it's up to the end user to make sure they don't get screwed. Read the fucking listing over and over and then read it again, check feedback (if the # is not in the mid triple digits and positive feedback is below 98% don't bother), check that the seller normally sells what your buying (check feedback for other users who have bought "similar" from them and was happy), personally try to buy within neighboring states (I scared a scammer shitless and got my MO back because I had been in the area where he lives and could easily "reach out and touch him"), and when you pay please do make sure you pay the extra $2 for insurance and ask questions before impulsively clicking "buy it now."

Nintendo has rarely ever hyped something they didn't deliver (hell they usualy overdeliver). Hell the now defunt Sega as a console manufacturer didn't even over-hype like Sony. They just delivered. By what Sony promised on the PS2 we shoulda have been playing games that looked like Toy Story right now with insaine AI, games useing HDs (I think I can count all of the games in the US with HD support on one hand), and good online play. Instead with the PS3 were being promised the exact same kind of thing and the graphics are good that they are showing, but the most impressive stuff they show is typical Sony prerendered over-hype (Killzone at E3?) and the AI in games will still be the same given how they are crippleing the architecture of the console for graphics. There is little reason for them to be useing IPv4 when it's them that are by and large the big new players that will be the primary cause for the # of IPs finally running out. For the most part the Asian reluctance so far of switching thier own systems to IPv6 wreaks of them wanting to wait for someone to make a solution for them that will cost less and be less risky than creating and implimenting it themselves.

And I never claimed IPv4 can scale up. It's just fact it won't scale past a certain point. Maybe IP space will run out in 2009 or 2011. Maybe it wont, but we wont know for certain until we either cross that bridge, do something about it to buy more time (NATing), and fix the problem (IPv6 or other protocal) or we get onto another protocal like IPv6 that can handle the high numbers and never get to fully see the problem.

And I never claimed NAT was needed "just" for cellphones (please do read before posting and don't make assumptions). I've worked with quite a few groups too where we just NAT everyone internaly to one external IP. As for US ISPs NATing thier users thats an idea we just don't need need getting into thier heads. They allready have enough going on blocking ports like 25 & 80 while chargeing you a "premium service" price just to use ports a few years ago it was just normal. Sure it might work, but also the US & other countries did earn a large majority of that IP space whith the whole getting the whole thing up and going in the first place (You know what happens when your in a decenly sized family and late to dinner right? Well it's kind of your own fault) and get that thought that I'm some psyco-patriotic asshat (Hell I hope to never see US soil again in a year. Viva Japan Baby!).

The schools could charge more for the class that way and circumvent the publishers entirely. You can really guage how good a Uni is when it's professors don't even use the books students are supposed to buy (or barely touch them) or if the professor provides you with thier own materials. My Japanese teacher is actually getting to the point finally that shes finally going to create her own manual.
