  1. Reminds me of XBOX on Psystar "Definitely Still Shipping" Mac Clones · · Score: 1

This is very similar to Microsoft going after mod chip makers for XBOX. While it may appear different on surface, it is quite similar. Microsoft was mad that people were using their hardware to do things other than play their games. This was a problem for them because they subsidized the hardware in order to make profit on the games. Apple is doing the same thing basically, only they subsidize the software to make it back on hardware. In both cases it hits the bottom line. Although in Apple's case, they don't really take a loss outright like Microsoft. They assume though that each sale of these Apple clones means 1 less sale of Apple brand machine.

I think thou, even if there were no pirates, there would still be DRM. The publishers would just change the definition of piracy to include a good chunk of people doing things which are reasonable. Like installing their game on 2 PCs they own, or making a backup copy.

I view Oil more as means than the cause. If Europe had alternative supplies of energy, Russia would be severely weakened on the world stage. They know this, and they fear the day when natural gas and Oil are things for a museum display (I'm a pessimist but I believe a day like this will come). That is why they are using the Oil and natural gas supplies as leverage now, while they still can, to do as much bad as they can get away with to strengthen their position.

You don't understand America buddy. By WHERE you live, you can tell the family income pretty easily. Also the size of your family unit can be deduced form your accommodations. If you live in a 1 bedroom 1600 a month apartment in a ritzy neighborhood, it's obvious you are single, possibly young college-educated professional. As opposed to living in a 3 bedroom $600 a month apartment in a bad part of town. That would mean you are most likely a working class family unit, possibly a minority.

It's not just WoW fans you should be sorry for. I used to play a MUD called DragonRealms. That was some 12 years ago in 1996 when I was a Freshman in High School. That game also made automation Attractive. And even then I wrote scripts for the front-end application that was very popular with the players to automate some combat. It wasn't perfect, and it still needed the Human touch to flee when things went south. But it beat typing attack goblin every couple seconds. Point is, these games always favored automation. Without repetitive, mind numbing tasks needed to be performed to raise your character in rank or status, there would be no ladder to climb. People would max their characters super fast and log off. While it may seem appealing at first, it would ruin any interactions the people would otherwise engage in while doing the mindless repetitive tasks to get ahead.
