I believe Africa's troubles stem from technology which their society was ill prepared to deal with. Even stuff like vaccines that will drastically increase the population growth does more harm than good in the long run if the society does not curb it's breeding habits.

Why have so many people been lured to the dot com bandwagon? Or the housing bandwagon? Simple, people do not understand economics. I wouldn't call them stupid outright, but picking something that made someone some money, and piling behind it thinking it will make you money too seems naive at very least.

  15. Confusing WoW and AoC references. on Free Games As a Solution To Game Piracy · · Score: 2, Interesting

Hell, the whole thing is confusing. Why does it mention online games? Those do not get pirated! How can you pirate WoW where you need to pay monthly to play it? Yeah u can use a private server, but those have less than .1% hardware capability of anything Blizzard tapes together from used parts. So enjoy adventuring ALONE. Also, why would anyone want to move to the Asian pricing model? Americans, by large part, prefer the way things are. Most of them do not want money to give someone an advantage, as witness by backlashes to gold selling services. Online games have little problems with piracy. That leaves you with not online games, which you cannot give away for free, because even if you used an ad model, the game still has to connect to get new ad material.

The population growth has already curbed itself in most industrialized nations. However there is another problem that arises from this. All of the current economic models are really ponzi schemes which depend on always expending populations. That is because as far as recorded history goes, human populations have always expanded. We are unprepared to deal with a shrinking population as witnessed by the alarm bells of every government with a birth rate below the magical number of 2.1%. However, merely maintaining the current population won't really do us any favors int he long run.
