You see, I don't really care about the episodic content. I bought Oblivion - PC Collector's edition with the map, and the septim and all, but I'm not afraid to say I pirated the "extra" content. I paid for a full game, and it's engine, if bethsoft want to make money while releasing new stuff, it's totally cool by me! But I'll definitely never PAY for it. They'll still make money in the end anyway, since I thought I'd shelled out my hard-earned cash for a "complete" game.
I'm expecting a lot of fun for this console. It will certainly be the only one I want to sink money into, so here's to hoping Mario, Zelda, and Red Steel also don't suck! Any other news about Elebits?
How tech-related is this? Do we gain any insight on news, or do we just get something we ALWAYS get in EVERY NEWSPIECE? That is, some dude's comment on already old news. That's what a majority of blogs are, and that's why I browse/. instead of the "blogosphere" to get news. As a slashdot visitor, I don't feel like the kind that cares about blogs.
Could you please elaborate? We usually get pissed about anythng that looks like a "kill the jews" speech, with good reason, but I do not understand what else you might be hinting at.
Sorry, but it's a classic in no way. It's the standard "save the world" fare we're used to since I can't remember how long. Oh yeah, the hero is emo, the badguy is a bishie, and aeris' death was maybe the only cool thing to happen in the entire game. I remember playing through the game because I was excited to see the summon spells in 3D. That's not an argument for a solid story.
That doesn't mean the main quest stories are great in the bioware/betshoft games. Usually, it's "oh, yeah. This quest... It's very important. Please do it in less than eight years, mmkay?" But the sidequests feel like true tabletop playing, with *multiple choices*, something you'll never, ever see in a japanese RPG. Plot twists, the possibility to cheat on your employer, so many things you can't do in a game in which the only NPC interaction choice is the talk button, because if you wanna kill somebody, you gotta exit the town, run around for five minutes, if you wanna pickpocket or poison or charm somebody, well you gotta hope it was hardcoded in a cut-scene.
How have we come to consider that games on rails are role-playing games? Let's call them interactive stories instead.
Always wondered what kind of crowd needs to ascertain their manhood while playing with what is essentially AN ELECTRONIC TOY. Get over it, boys. Have fun with your Madden$YEAR, let me play my Mario, and stop trying to convince yourselves you bought the better console.
Just play in your corner. Wii will be having lightsaber fights over there.
Well, now you do.
AFAIK, Nintendo, in over a century of business, have lost money during only one quarter, because of the gamecube and a price drop. Usually, they're very shrewd, and do not try for market domination as hard as Microsoft and sDoRnMy do. Thus, they do not waste as much money on advertisement, they d not use state-of-the-art technology, but instead use tried and true technology...
In a nutshell, they're pragmatic and price-conscious geeks.
But leave it to astroturfers to yell that Nintendo's gonna die soon;)
I feel I have to say this, I've got a little Karma to burn anyway.
But this is an important issue to me, let me be the first to say, fuck tv. No capitals. No hate. Just ignore this shitbox forever. You cannot imagine how many neurons die when you're exposed to this shit. Don't even start with it... It's getting closer to the traditional sci-fi anticipation movies like rollerball, or books like 1984. It's fucking depressing to see so much lost potential in there, truly. So fuck tv. You'll only be healthier.
I will kill your argument with only one proposition : You start paying the novelty tax, I'll root for you and call you the coolest kid on the block, and I'll buy a HDTV when it's dirt cheap.
We geeks are tech-savvy, not drug addicts. HDTV can wait.
Sadly, the perceived value of a product, of any product mind you, comes from the marketing techniques only. Pricing is one of them. If you sell a Mario game for five bucks, no matter what the whole videogaming community says, the mass market will think "A game that costs $5 is shit, I'm going to work harder to afford a DRM3!".
Low prices bundled with a quality product will only interest the people who actually know what they're buying. That means, most of us, fanbois and hardcore gamers. It will come as a nice side-effect/bonus for mom&dad when they buy billy his Nintendo console (they bought it because everybody tells them it's the only family-safe videogame system anyway), but the perceived value will be "This is utter shit, gimme the console that exxxxxtreme skateboaders play on!", and it should not affect sales greatly.
I only state things as they are, even though I wish it weren't true. I do hope the Nintendo Revolution changes that aspect of the market.
Well then, adblock users must like shallow discussion, in your eyes. But I agree with you : not only has/. been lagging in the news department, they're also keen on controversial newsworthy items.
Back on topic, LOL. "hmm, sony's getting beaten up by Nintendo pretty hard, s'pose we could pull a me-too and lose against them as well" must be what a Microsoft exec is thinking right now?
I'm gonna go way out on a limb here, folks, but...

FFXII's Japanese Release
·
· Score: 3, Insightful
I wouldn't be surprised if THIS iteration isn't AGAIN about saving the world, emo / brooding characters, and, of course, plastically perfect female characters who exist solely to bring fanservice to the world.
I have stopped caring about the story in FF since it's been rehashing the save the world formula, but many many people keep insisting that the scenario is always deep and moving and whatnot. What does the/. population think? Scenario? Standard generic fantasy anime fare, if you ask me.
So please explain why I should buy it. Better graphics? Nice cutscenes? Good music? How about the Gameplay? Is it any fun?
I could care less about my compatriots, but these foreigners you named have a LONG, LONG way to go before I even compare their worth and contributions to those of Miyamoto.
Glad to see this old story appear on/. ! At least it's not a dupe!
There's a lot of speculation on whether the last secrets for the Revo will be.
Some people say it's a microphone port, although that would be retarded as microphones already work on a GCN with mario party and whatnot. Others predict a projector system, to display your games on a wall. Hmm. The fanboi in me says if one company can pull this off without looking like crap, it would be them, but I'm not convinced. Yet another few think we will see the VR helmet do its appearance.
I say all of these speculations are off. I'm betting on a blu-ray drive.
By the way, I'm pretty shocked by the fact that/. hasn't reported that Shigeru Miyamoto is now a FRENCH KNIGHT.
Microsoft sell nice, cheap games using live arcade. People are content. Nintendo well sell classic, cheap, and maybe new'n'nice too games thanks to the WFC. People will be like "whoa, cool!"
SONY doesn't give a fuck. They'll bundle linux and say "oops, by the way, didja know you could run EMULATORS IN LINUX?" The people will be all like "O RLY IM TOTALLY BUYING A PS3 TO PLAY OLD SNES GAMEZ, LOLOL", and they'll rush to the PS3.
You don't believe me? Okay, how many of you bought a very expensive GBASNESGENESIS, er, I mean, PSP?
Sony have wowed the world over with the PSX, then they had a few... Unfortunate turns of events with the PS2. But they realized one thing : just as in music and film, it's not the actual content that sells, but the hype and marketing!
We have had countless reports on how shittily designed the PS2 was. The only console we had to turn upside-down to have it read disks!
So now, they're combining an awful pre-launch, with a lame try at "yawn, we're going to try to copy xbox live and the revolution download system, but it will be crap", and the "oh yeah, it's gonna be so expensive you'll sell us your unborn children's souls!", I just think that Kutaragi has become arrogant, as much as Yamauchi was in the SNES heyday.
Remember, it won't be a success because of the hardware specs, or the games, or anything. It will be a HUGE success because hordes of brain-dead morons who actually find the "cheese you can listen to" ads funny, will line up and get ready to buy it. You think these people care about DRM or blu-ray?
I much prefer parody. I do hope we can see more satyrical / parodic ads as in GTA.
Education and funny shit at the same time, man. Better than tampax commercials.
You see, I don't really care about the episodic content. I bought Oblivion - PC Collector's edition with the map, and the septim and all, but I'm not afraid to say I pirated the "extra" content. Right.
So it was pure coincidence, you say?
Because selling extensions to play "more advanced" games is a business practice that was never done before.
Nintendo must be jewish :
- They excel at making money
- They're very talented in general
- People hate them for odd reasons
I'm expecting a lot of fun for this console. It will certainly be the only one I want to sink money into, so here's to hoping Mario, Zelda, and Red Steel also don't suck!

Constant anti-nintendo troll might fly off freely, but don't be stupid enough to do it twice in the same thread. This is not /v/.
