If by "really quiet" you mean "my neighbours won't hear it," then yeah, call it quiet by all means. If you've heard any of the 8800 series cards' coolers, the 8800GT solution is not much quieter, so still in the hairdryer league. Here's hoping someone makes a factory-assembled fanless cooling solution for the 8800GT. It might be possible, given that it's power draw is not much higher than that of the 8600GTS.

Sadly, there's the issue of noise. Sure, the high-end cards give you stunning visuals, but having to put headphones on to hold the hairdryer sounds off is not my idea of fun. I was hoping this would change with the 8800GT, but they just made the fan smaller, which generally means louder. :|

Except that soldiers are often conscripted. Artists are not forced to sign up with the big labels. Being stupid (or, more likely, greedy) and not reading contracts before signing (and/or not having a lawyer do it for them, and/or not giving a fsck as long as the money is right) is not an excuse.

And right you are. There were rumors that Take 2 was considering using StarForce in Civ4. After a public outcry in the fan forums, they didn't (people were openly saying they would just not buy Civ with StarForce, and I mean hardcore fans). Since Bioshock didn't have a large fan base before release, guess what happened...

Am I the only one that thinks they hired the same people that did the packaging for the iPod? And beyond that, should a computer chip ever have to carry some strange slogan such as at "Black Edition"?
Intel's been doing this for years, and with good results. Finally AMD was squeezed enough to hire some real marketing people. Let's just hope they don't drop this when/if their products are back to being competitive, so they can again put some pressure on Intel (instead of being fscked by the Intel marketing dept, again).

If I wanted to get a second phone line, I could open an account with a second ISP and have two gateways into my home LAN. That would take a little more vendor support for the average user, but there's nothing in the current implementation preventing such a usage.
That's assuming there is more than 1 ISP around where you live. Which is not always true. Especially if you need more than basic service (i.e. higher bandwidth). Besides, spying on you can be mandated for all ISPs (it already is in some countries, no?), so having a "choice" won't change much anyway. Next up is mandated filtering, also for all ISPs. Where's your choice then?

I beg to differ. Think cheap upgrades. These "old" cards are a long way ahead of most current games' needs, as long as you run at a low resolution (up to 1280x1024, if I read the charts correctly), and the prices for the 7 series will "probably" fall, "probably" pretty soon.
