  1. Price drop for console, more profit for vendor on Console Makers Scaling Back Their Push For HD · · Score: 2, Insightful

The price drop makes the console more competitive. Without an HDMI cable in the pakcage the customer will have to buy an HDMI cable (hopefully from the vendor); these are cheap to make but retail for about £10/$10 IIRC. Console maker and vendor both win.

Prey had your character/avatar talking and reacting to the strange environment and things that were happening. Just as I was thinking "What the fuck is happening", my character would say the same thing! I'd seen that in an FPS until that point and it really imporved the immersion in the game.

As you say, the author of TFA just hasn't played a large enough spectrum of FPS's to be a worthwhile critic of them.

This won't work, because the only this fails to send the only message they understand: we don't want to buy this game with this DRM.

Think about it. The only reason they put DRM on the game is to increase sales by making pirating/copying the game for a friend more difficult. If you buy the game anyway, you send the message that you will still pay for the product. A pirated copy represents a missed sale.

Affecting their bottom line is the only way to send a message to the people who make the decision to include DRM.

I'm recommending to everyone I know that they should buy it and pirate it at the same time.

That's just one more person who EA can say were not negatively affected by the repressive DRM on the product - justification for keeping the DRM just as restrictive on future products. If DRM is supposed to stop piracy, then any indication that DRM increases piracy is what EA need to be shown.

Just don't buy DRM games - it's the only message they understand.
