  2. TV Shows Vs Movies on Episodic Gaming Changing Gamemaking? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think both ideas boil down to the same thing. Overall in any givin game, more specifficaly PC games (as that's what valve mostly makes)have a tedency to have a good beginning, and great end.. but a more or less mediocre middle. I think what episodic content does is give them more time to focus on each peice so it seems more or less great all the way through. I feel that most "Movies" or full length games theese days are mostly boring filler, and should probably be cut down a little anyway. Episodic content does very well for this purpose, and I have really enjoyed EP1, and look forward to EP2.

  5. Re:Can someone explain Steam to me? on Assassins, Bullies, and Messiahs · · Score: 2, Informative

Steam is an on-line contenet dilivery service. You downlaod and play games through steam. Each person is assigned a sepcific ID taht keeps track of what games you've purchased. If your local copy is deleted, steam knows that you have payed for the game, and simply lets you redownload it. Steam does not need to be connected to the interenet to play. Your games that are used through steam cannot be accessed any other way. If you use the icon to open say HL2 or CSS it will open steam, then launch the game. Many third party titles and mods are available via steam. Steam is a free service and does not directly cost. That said, I like the service and don't experience the lag and latency most people seem to complain about. I do however don't like the fact it's almost impossible to get information about teh games from steam itself. A lot of people like to use the terms Valve/Steam interchangably.

  6. Hmm.. Classes vs Skills ?? on Classes vs. Skills in MMOGs · · Score: 1

Classes have a tendecy to be more focused. You wanna be a sneaky bastard.. be a theif. You wanna hit stuff.. be a fighter. wanna reign firey doom upon your enemies while wearing a dress.. be a mage! but it's always boiling down to a class title. Even in games with open skill sets, a overly melee skill set will get labled as a "fighter". Both systems are fine for their uses, but a class system is the easy and simple way. Skills sets are just the long way of going about setting up a charicter. As in all things, it's going to come down to what level of control some people have to have. Some people are fine being a Fighter.. while others want to rule their charicters skill sets and pick and choose from every skill available and be a Fighter/Healer/Monkey/Pirate/Robot.

Anyone else had this kind of trouble. I've had no problems with EP1 since i bought it. You using Steam or a store bought copy? I'm interested to know if this is a large problem. Valve is known to have shotty tech support and their forums are a joke, but i've not once had trouble with my own installations of valve. I Loved HL2 and ep1 was no dissapointment. I'm not partial to the episodic content idea, but if they could just make the game a little longer i won't mind puttin out the cash for it. I don't mind if they're pushing back production, because valve is one of the studios i still respect. They take the time to release a good product on most ocaisons.

Send him a nice letter anyway. I plan on it, and I hope more people notice this program. I think it's a good thing people are activly trying to point out the ratings, not refine them. They are a good indication of the content, not a report. People need to understand and use the ratings not demand "better". I can only hope more people follow this example and help point out that the big M in the bottom right hand corner of the game means something besides "Money".

What we need in the our government right now is more people like Baker. I applaude his understanding and hope that more programs spring up. This is a good start to pointing out that it's not the games that are causing violent children. The more people are aware and understand the idea behind the ESRB ratings the better. The more people that understand they have to take responsibility for the media their children are exposed to the better. I'm happy, and I can only hope that more people notice what is happening here.

Reliable hosting can easily cost 20-30 bucks for only 1 game server. The money is being paid one way or another, it's just a question of whether the end user feels the pinch.

I agree. It's games like Xenogears, and many of the Final Fantasy games that are ment to invoke such emotion. The games entire aim is not the be played, but for the player to feel like they're in the story. It's like reading a book, if you can identify with and immerse yourself into the world and be alongside those charicters, it makes for a much more compelling and emotional experience. I am not ashamed to say that i've cried at least a few times while playing a game because of the emotion of the situations.

I hope they at least try though, it'd be sad to see the Wii be another GC. I myself think this game could be great because i think ubisoft did a great job with the new prince of persia games.
