Is it possible that Da Vinci, being the prolific inventor and genius that he was, could have painted the Mona Lisa such that the painting actually ages with time? The eyebrow and eyelash hair fallen or gone, wrinkles around the eyes and the smile becoming shorter could be signs that he actually painted it to age gradually.
Being an Indian myself, here are some reasons why Indian students enroll for grad courses in US univs: 1) To get a job in the US so that they can make more money than similar job profiles in India. 2) To actually study Computer Science because they love the subject (quite rare) 3) Because entering India's premier technical institute - the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is very difficult and the GRE/GMAT and TOEFL are almost childs play compared to the JEE (Joint Entrance Exams for IIT). 4) Some women simply enroll because their husbands are working in the states and they have nothing much to do at home (I have seen more than one such case while at university myself).
I actually studied for a good 2 years in a US university. But I had absolutely no intention of settling down there. So I returned to India immediately after my studies whereas some of my friends, in an attempt to linger on and preserve the validity of their visas, actually took on a Ph.D. program. Dunno how many of them actually completed it and how many ran away as soon as they got their work permit.
And in many communities, its a matter of pride to say "my son is working in america". It helps further the boy's or girl's matrimonial prospects.
The impressive bonuses and salary hikes are only enjoyed by top management and employees above VP or at least Project Manager designation. The engineers who actually slog are given peanuts.
Just an aside: I once had a manager who used to ask me for the estimates and the schedule. All he used to do was put that in an Excel sheet. So why was the manager needed?
There are actually several things I wanna highlight: 1) If a channel is digital, but the movie thats being shown is an old print, scratched disc or whatever, the picture quality will be bad anyway right? 2) On a tangential note, One particular DTH operator in India (Tata Sky) shows more advertisements than movie. I am quite a movie buff and I can tell even if a single dialog from a particular movie is missing. I have watched the TV format of the movies so it can't even be that the theater format cuts are being enforced. Parts of the storyline, dialogs, fight scenes etc. are cut from movies that get aired. Typical Hindi films have at least 5 songs and these crappy songs are shown in their entirety and the interesting stuff in the movie gets cut off for the sake of advertisements. Just to give you numbers, a typical 2.5 hour hindi movie goes on for a good 4 hours and that too with cuts and snips in between. So you can imagine the number of ads that get shown.
So my question is why should I pay my DTH provider for ads?
I think its a relevant issue. Even Sony Ericsson has been doing this for quite some time now. The hardware used on the K and W series phones is the same. But the software (firmware) is different and that causes for poor sound quality on the K series and poor image quality on the W series. Is this fair? If a manufacturer purposely and intentionally suppresses certain capabilities that the device already has, isn't this an abuse of the customer's confidence in that company? Does it not amount to manipulation and cheating the customer?
How could a company like Apple leave out building a door over the battery compartment of an advanced device like the IPhone? Surely, there has to be some rationale to that move. If its just about fleecing the customer, then the lawsuit is totally justified.
Now why didn't they include my list???!
1) Pamela Anderson
2) Carmen Electra
3) Jessica Alba
4) Jenny McCarthy
5) Kate Moss
6) Naomi Campbell (for all those racism-crying a**holes)
7) Oprah (for the really hopeless)
