Cut-scenes were the best. Interactive. Live Acting. Hilarious.
Another good example is Dark Forces: Jedi Knight.
I get that hiring actors, filming, putting it onto removable media is expensive, difficult and time consuming. But it really adds to the game, and if you are going to be spending money on a high end game, you should make it so the cut-scenes flow well with the gameplay and if you are going to have a lot of cinematics, make them interesting and interactive. Make sure you get the player interested in what's happening.
For those of you who haven't played wing commander 3, the cut-scenes were done by actors. Often, in the middle of the scene, it would pause and give you a choice (similar to KOTOR). These choices actually affected what would happen later in the game. Certain people would die, you would fly different missions etc. For more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wing_Commander_3
The tech school I went to had a wireless ATM in the pub.
Needless to say several of us brought in our laptop(just to see what the traffic looked like) and there it was, clear as day, encryped pins bouncing happily back and forth. I mean, it's bad enough to even have a wireless ATM, but to put it in a technical institute where it will be surrounded by poor students learning how to manipulate computers. That's just asking for trouble:P. AND to top it all of, lets put it where they will be drinking.
A final fantasy on the wii would be great. I think that the wii is the one system that might break square enix out of their drought and come up with something truly innovative.
You just said it: "Some gamers do have money" . That's the niche that it will fit into. Gaming on a PC is just becoming too expensive. People can't afford to buy an Dual SLI system unless they want to spend two months worth of paychecks.
Also, why would you say that consoles will never have hard disk space. They are using hard drives. It isn't too much of a hassle to throw in a larger one, or even a disk array. Same with "cores" as you put it. Also, why will consoles never have Gigs of ram?
Sure, currently PC's are the way to go if you want really high end performance, but if you are loboking for an average gaming experience (most people) then console gaming is way cheaper and is nearing the same performance level.
That is why it says a "niche" market. The niche being people who are willing to spend significant amounts of money on their systems for gaming.
How exactly is a site supposed to enforce this kind of agreement? On the TOS it says that you must be over 13 to sign up for this site. Beyond that age verification gets costly and irritating. I for one am not going to give my credit card number to a site simply for age verification. AND, if you are over 13, there is no guarantee that you will be able to prove that over the internet.
What we actually need is fewer lawsuits from the FTC and have the FTC put their money into a viable and secure way to verify age over the internet. While it won't stop everyone, it will stop many.
And where are they getting these numbers? It's like they're saying look over here at these magically appearing numbers while over in the corner they sit and hope like hell that we're all entranced by them and we won't remember when no PS3's ship this year. You'd think after all the screw ups in the past they might just try telling the truth for once.
So, I wish them luck in reaching their goal, but also, I am calling BS on them.
Well...It should be set to use either ipv4 OR ipv6 correct? Or is it set to use both depending on what network it is interacting with? The amount of traffic will increase but it shouldn't increase to the point of dns servers crashing constantly. The fact that ipv6 is implemented at all is great, because it's time to move forward, but I can't see this putting an excessive load on dns servers.
So if my companies network connection goes down and I can't vpn in....I'm not coming into work...
Plus 90% of communication in my company is via e-mail/IM's.... we're pretty much screwed...
Plus all of our hosted sites would get really really pissed at us as they couldn't do any business...
Plus there would be a riot.
That is the 'practical' definition, but I've had many release candidates where new functionality has been added either as a result of sheer customer demand, or if it was just too complicated. There are lots of reasons one would have to add functionality to an RC.
You are correct though, RCs do turn into General Releases, just usually not the first one and the content does not necessarily stay the same between RCs
RC's are usually versions that have all the core functionality implemented and are ready for testing. It is not, however, bug free and it does not have everything implemented. Functionality can be added/removed based on user response. User response needs to be measured before it can be decided whether to keep feature X or alter it or implement it another way.
It is also not bug free because it has not been exposed to general population for testing which always reveals more bugs that simply aren't found during the internal testing process.
It's like saying. "We could release this, but we're sure that there will be something people don't like and we'd rather have people bash away at it so we can fix it before an official launch". Or at least that's how it is at my work.

because I'd rather not be human because of something called DUF (and no... the 1220 on the end doesn't help).
While I don't entireley disagree with you, I do on several points, 2 of which I feel are worth mentioning:
A) Games in the "DnD" (as you put it) universe at the very least have different storylines. Different events will occur leading to something new, whereas in football you play football. Each game of football you play will be differemt, but I can't see the difference between madden 06, 05, etc being all that riveting (50$ worth of fun that is)
B) Yes, classes/spells/abilities are similar between games. However, there is room for innovation and development. In Madden you can pass, punt, tackle, etc etc etc. There isn't all that much room for development. It will always be pass, punt, tackle, etc etc etc.
How does EA keep making money releasing the same game year after year?
It's a sports game (I admit that I've never been fond of sports games, just play the sport) so what are the huge changes from Madden 05 to Madden 06, and more importantly why do people keep buying the newer game? Slightly better textures? New player rosters? Would somebody please let me know, because I am at a loss.
While it is funny, it's also the truth. When you quit WoW, at first it feels like you're giving up a part of you, but with time, you actually feel that sense of success that you never felt while playing. It's like quitting smoking. You never started smoking with a specific goal in mind, so there was is no 'end'. Quitting is the only way tou can beat smoking, drinking, drug addiction... etc.
Sometimes you want a game where you can "Press 'A' to see something cool". I hope there will always be room for games like these as they give people the opportunity to just play a game without the sheer involvement of a game like Elder Scrolls.
"you could have every reality TV program at your fingertips for a little less than the cost of an average house."
Thank you I think I'll buy the house...
A) Because why would you want every reality TV program at your fingertips?
B) Because we already do (See http://bittorrent.com/)
C) Because... just because.
Does this mean people actually believed that old versions of AOL were good?
From what I can recall AOL has never been good. Perhaps it didn't act with malicious purpose, but it has, in my opinion, never been good and I certainly recall several occasions in my previous support job where it ended up being the cause of problems with totally unrelated software.
My apologies to any AOL supporters out there, but this is looking like the end for AOL.
I am currently using http://www.digitalriver.com/v2.0-img/operations/ac dsys/html/060926/acdsee_1.html ( ACDSee Photo Manager ) and have found that it works very well. It's quick to load and has some great features. It does, however, take some getting used to.

I like how Denmark has it first... even though it was made by a swedish-finnish company. It would be great to have though.
