  1. Re:Out of the Box Interface on Two Weeks with the Wii · · Score: 1

I totally agree with your opinion. Sadly Sega failed to market its later systems, let alone gimmicks and whatnot. It used to be relaxing playing Get Bass with the rod (sans the timer, that is)

  4. For those cheering Nintendo on Nintendo Profits Up 72%, Sony's Down 94% · · Score: 1

Nintendo have never the good guys. Though I admire their business model of taking risks and letting the consumer vote with their wallets, Sony have always played it safe and in fact allowed for far more "creative freedoms". It's only their cocky approach and shoving Blu-ray down our throats that's intolerable, as well as their PR propaganda. I hope Sony will learn some important lessons this time.

No way can you qualift RF2 as one of the all-time worst. It was playable, and it was fun. Nothing more, nothing less.

  8. The franchise sold well.. Why no more sequels? on Shiny Acquisition Leaves Earthworm Jim Wriggling? · · Score: 1

I reckon gamers can give a franchise a second chance even if devs botch it up (I was quite disappointed with EWJ3D).. I can't see a reason why EWJ can't become a cash cow for Shiny once more. Except of course it's creatively demanding. Dave Perry was at his best with platformers. His Matrix games suck and he still believes he can do decent movie-to-game translations. I miss that old worm :(

Just to add.. Borat was correct in choosing that stereotype from Kazakhstan, since I've seen one or two TV reports about his new film, and not a word about the poor human rights record in that country. Why? I reckon it's bloody obvious.

  13. Take it from a foreigner on The Daily Show as Substantive as Broadcast News · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Your media stinks! And everyone else knows it. CBS or even ABC and CNN (bar CNN Int'l) are no match for the BBC, Euronews or even the propagandic Aljazeera for that matter. It's void of journalistic integrity. Just this evening I was watching CBS news, and it occurred to me you Yanks have little idea of anything going on outside your borders. So much censorship and lobbying you have in your media it's sickening (alright, so all media are biased, but you go over the top). News programmes with the emotional music or that crap really grate on my nerves. They can't even preview a book without blatantly advertising for it, like tonight's CBS news show (can't bloody bother to remember the title of the book this time). Bah!

The Daily Show on the other hand, it's a breath of fresh air.. Shame they charge insane rates for American cable channels. Then again, maybe not =P

Thank you for that insightful comment. I'm at a loss myself, but I'm learning being a greedy materialist can't get you anywhere really in the end. One has to strike a balance, though I've been looking into voluntary simplicity recently.. Still would appreciate owning a few items not to mention decent compensation for any work done.

  15. Too late. on The Day Against DRM · · Score: 2, Informative

It's already October 4th in my time zone. See ya next year then, that is if DRM won't already have become a de facto with Vista, the PS3 and God knows what else.

  16. Sorry, but.. on Peter Jackson on the Future of Storytelling · · Score: 1

I don't want a Hollywood director to preach about interactivity because that's a spell for disaster. A conventional film director knows zilch about interactivity, except bossing people around apparently. Of course we need more creative types to join the gaming industry, but without companies like the old Sega and Nintendo to take chances and invest in new concepts, we're going to see the same sequels in Kaz Hirai's hilarious presentation over and over again, each time drawn in more polygons and using better textures. The industry is in a very sorry state, creatively speaking. Just look at the Japanese and American charts. Simply pathetic.

  17. I always hated Nintendo.. on The Decade of the N64 · · Score: 1

..but I'm buying a Wii sometime in the future. The N64 was a flop, almost like the Dreamcast. Both had their pleasant moments, and I personally prefer the Dreamcast because of its superior graphics and plethora of side-scrolling shoot 'em ups. Shenmue > Zelda IMHO, and as for Perfect Dark and Goldeneye they were stellar in their day, but I really don't see myself playing either in an emulator. So many better FPS's are already out there so why the bother. Oh and Turok was hardly groundbreaking. Pretty at the time, but hardly groundbreaking.

A little offtopic perhaps, but has anyone checked Lego's new products? Harry Potter? Batman? WTF? It's all cash-in crap! I know videogames have ravaged the toys industry, but this is absurd. Perhaps Technic and the trains line would remain Lego's last decent toy products.

I think Kojima-san's direction of non-game cutscenes in titles like MGS and ZoE can be considered an alternate form of the seventh art. However I think this debate will keep repeating itself without any clear answers, and thus I have no interest in pursuing it any further.
