I'd be interested to see in how the rental money is divided up once it's lifted off your credit card. Perhaps a larger portion of that will go directly into the hands of the designers as opposed going into Blockbuster's pocket. If that's the case, then a pricing structure similar to or slightly cheaper than any current rental service may suffice.
A lot of great PC games were even more successful than they otherwise might have been because they opened themselves up to the mod community.
While that may be true, it's irrelevant to this story. Chrono Trigger has never been a PC game and is already highly successful both in terms of sales and its influence on the console RPG market. The brand never has and never will need the "help" of the mod community or fangame creators.
Who do you talk to, people who go to Trek conventions dressed in full Klingon gear? It was a damn good addition to a series that's been in the shitter since 1996.
A good SSD will whoop many high-end platter drives even after the one-time speed decrease. Anandtech went over this a few months back. The reasons you should stick with platters is because they're cheaper per gigabyte, not because they're "tried and true". (I don't even really know about the "true" part, after all hard drives are the first thing that'll take a shit on most computers anyway.)
I'm not really into NIN but I watched the Youtube video explaining what the app is. This is something Apple should be promoting because it does a pretty good job of taking advantage of the platform's capabilities - not suppressing because it contains a reference to a 15-year old album.
Because this is Slashdot, not Consumerist. The question was what to do with the broken laptop, not how to make the situation right between the OP and the airline.
I was in TimesSquare/Arcade myself. For as much as Geocities gets knocked on, back in 1996 that was one of the places a 16 year old kid could get 2MB on the web to call his own. It was my start in writing HTML code and now I'm a full-time web developer. RIP.
If the Omaha World-Herald were to shut down tomorrow, I'd still get all the local news I need from KETV, WOWT, KMTV, or KPTM. And if the TV stations set up a subscription model on their respective websites, I'd still be able to watch the 6 o'clock news for free over the air. In fact, it might prompt them to add more local news programming to take up the slack. There would be no incentive for me to pay a dime for local news when I can get it for free.
I agree with you that The Dark Knight and The Matrix Reloaded put a spin on what we normally consider summer blockbusters, with the added consideration that they were able to do that because they were successful sequels of successful movies. The playbook was wide open for the creative development in those two franchises because people knew who the characters were and what the story was about. Watchmen tried to go straight to step 2, and in terms of looking for box office numbers that's where things went wrong. A three hour R-rated movie with multiple narratives in a genre where the norm is a two hour PG-13 movie with a clear plot made the IP a tough, tough sell.
That said, I am looking forward to picking up the Blu-Ray when it comes out.
I'm in that boat too. The only other games I played on the PSP that weren't remakes of Final Fantasy games I beat to death years ago in high school were Crisis Core and Jeanne d'Arc. My PSP has been collecting dust for some time now and it's sad because it's not a bad piece of hardware as far as handheld consoles go.
The less attention you guys personally give him, the more neglected he'll feel and the less of an attention whore he might become.
Or he'll step up his efforts and when there are no sane people to keep his outlandish behavior in check, he'll be one step closer to getting his way. Jack Thompson isn't some anonymous coward you can filter out of a discussion thread just because you think he's a troll - as long as he's loud enough to get legislation on the table for discussion, he's somebody you need to keep an eye on.
Are there any obvious problems you would foresee?
How are you going to dial 911?
You don't achieve a stranglehold on the desktop OS market without getting something right...
Interrupting Bob and Tom merits a medal, not a kick. Just sayin. ;)
I hope the data reported will be impartially selected, honestly gathered, clearly explained, and perfectly accurate.
Sorry, but HA.

I ran into that snag the one time I tried to get onto a McD's wifi too. Must be on a per-franchise basis or something.

I don't think he's supposed to be Japanese, just Asian.

Decide for yourself on this one... imo.
Science fiction. Not science reality.

Well that's certainly an interesting

Didn't that used to happen at brick and motor stores as well?
Nice work sneaking a car analogy into the discussion!
Beggars can't be choosers. 2 meg is an upgrade for a lot of folks.

I feel sorry for the "average student" who paid $60 for Office. I paid $15 for Office Enterprise 2007 through my school...
No, but in Los Angeles, the Trojans exploit YOU!
Dude, I'd totally buy that game.
