  2. Re:Utter foolishness on BBC and ISPs Clash over iPlayer · · Score: 1

I think you totally miss the point. Why is a ISP even offering 15Mb access when it can't provide 10Mb, or 5Mb or even 2Mb in some areas? Hell I hate DSL for this very reason, I pay for a up to 5Mb connection, because of distance I sync up at 2.6Mb, and I pay the same, or would if I didn't get it free from work, which is also how I know exactly what I'm syncing up at, where as 99% of the customers out there have no idea. The only reason they offer these higher speeds is to sound good for marketing purposes only, because once you start using those speeds for more than a burstable period of time you start getting notices about abuse. Working for a small ISP we flat out tell people that we don't actively monitor bandwidth usage, but if we do notice large amount of usage we may ask you to calm it down a little which happens very rarely. We provide a hard cap on the amount of usage, and we wouldn't even offer 5Mb connections, except Bell Canada forces us to (we can over 512Kb or 5Mb, there is no other tier's for residential access). We would have loved if the rates had stayed at 1.5Mb, we had a lot less support calls back then (since a larger portion of the city can get 1.5Mb).

And a provider of shared calendaring services.
I had to login cause its been a while, but here there was no ads, kudos to them.

And a provider of domain-wide hosting of the above.
Using the standard edition we also get to see some ads.

And a supporter of numerous Open Source software projects. And one of the movers and shakers in the press for green technology.
    I'll give these to you.

And the only search giant to refuse a federal request for all search records.
But has no problems giving them to a foreign government on request. So yes google has a lot of cool things going for it, but never forget that their money comes from advertising, why would they be not looking for more ways to make money doing it?

Sometimes I think the most innovative element a new MMORPG could introduce was permanent death upon achieving the top level. Reach say 100 and you got time for a few epic quests that end your characters heroic journey, before fading away and forcing you to start a new character. Gone would be the mad rush to end game, the constant demand for insanely high level extra content, the need for increased levels AND you would have a constant stream of people in all levels of the game to make newcomers feel less lonely. Welcome to LORD (Legend of the Red Dragon) from the good old days. Basically you would reach max level, defeat the Red Dragon, and then you start over at level 1 with a few of your skills a bit better (I think ... it has been a while). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_of_the_Red_Dragon
