FTFA: So I installed the demo, but thought there had to be more.
I had a problem installing. The install program seams to have a problem with installing as a "Run as.." admin account. But when I install it after logging in as the admin through the startup screen, no problems.
This needs a lot of work and I think it's going to be a while before it's released.
FTFA: But at the same time, Apple managed to transform itself into the premier provider of MP3 players. Analysts say this is important, because as growth in the personal computer market slows, growth in the consumer electronics space is skyrocketing.
Jobs is turning Apple into an innovating consumer device company and building its brand so that, hopefully for Apple, even when there's competition for a product, folks will still buy the Apple - even for a premium.
I honestly predict that one day, Apple will leave its roots behind and leave the PC market to the commodity manufacturers - like the big American companies did with TVs. Yeah, you can still buy a name brand TV, but it's usually some Asian company that bought the rights to use the name on their TVs.
Don't believe me? Why is that people were actually wearing just the ear buds when the iPod was becoming popular? Image. During the switch campaign, all of the folks that I saw in the adds were the all blck wearing, pierced noses, and other younger folks who looked really cool. I didn't see any folks in business suits talking about ROI or how it made their organization much more profitable - like you see in IBM, Oracle, SAP, etc... ads.
Is Apple really that much better than any other computer out there? I haven't seen any compelling evidence for that. I would agree that as recent as the mid-90's, Apple was superior, but now, I don't see it. Prove me wrong - please. I have to say that Apples are much nicer looking than anything out there. And I think Jobs knows this. Jobs is a genius when it comes to marketing. He made a brilliant move with the "flavor" iMacs years ago. I thought those machines were crap to use - it was slow and OS 9 crashed and hung a lot. OS X works much better on them, but it's still slow. But they sure looked great!
I haven't tried the new machines, yet. I'm not in the market for a new machine, but when I am, beleive me, I will look at Apple again. I do like the fact that all of the dev tools are free! Unlike the other OS company.
Everyone knows that you have to run a couple of different programs to get most of the spyware and adware off your machines. And those who don't know won't be using MS's anyway.
You should see how often they toss out perfectly good mobile phones all in an effort to get the next best thing.
I don't know what it's like in Japan - I've never been but I'd love to go! Anyway, the battery in my cordless phone isn't holding a charge. So I thought, "I'll just go and buy a new one. It couldn't cost more than $10." HA! The battery was going for about $19 - the phone, brand new, costs $17! It actually pays to through the phone away and buy a new one!
I know of a guy who was able to quit drinking by taking up pot. It worked! And since the pot is no where as addicting (if at all) as alcohol, he then just dropped the pot. It wasn't very good for his lungs, but he was able to give up something much more destructive.
Here is an awsome book on drugs and their effects: Buzzed
I learned that Pot isn't as bad as the lawmakers say it is and alcohol is much worse than many drugs - including all of the controlled and illegal ones.
mods the parent as "Troll", consider this, both Bush and Gore were both members of the "Skulls" when they were at Yale. The point, both of the nominees for President where of the same socio-economic class. I don't want to delve into any class war crap, I'm just saying that I've never seen, let's say, a college professor or someone who's not a millionaire or from a family that devotes it's legacy to political life - like the Kennedys or the Bushes - getting nomiated by the major politcal parties. And even if they did, they're treated as crackpots. Every election year, our new media profiles some guy who's running for president on some wacky platform or they're running to make a statement, like "Make pot legal!"
FTFA: Quinn also blamed the leaders of technology departments for not communicating the benefits of open-source software to their businesses effectively.
That's the issue. The whole dress thing is just his little hang-up.
I've gotton the blank look from the bosses when I've mentioned switching to F/OSS. This article has a great reason: being able to transfer documents to different applicatons and systems. What we need is more reasons.
How about a F/OSS sales pitch/reasons to use/why are you using it document on SourceForge?
FTFA: Because the amblyopic eye is inferior for some reason, the brain decides to use the good eye.
...but most of my vision still comes from my one good eye.
Which leads to my question: Has your overall vision improved? I'm thinking that, if your brain is using one eye because the other is inferior for whatever reason, then doing anything to use both eyes would decrease your overall quality of your vision. Although, it sounds like that the "bad" eye was being corrected so that your vision would improve, yes?
Man, you have a second career! That's basically the structure of all the musicals I've seen. Write the play and you'll make more $$$ than you ever could in software!
Especially if it's something that been around for a while - like Perl. My local library had all of the O'Reilly Perl books there and also quite a few through their membership with Netlibrary.com. The Netlibrary has the books on the more recent tech.
If your library doesn't have a book that you want, try ordering it. If it's approved it'll take a while before they get it. Of course, this depends on your local library.
I know, there are times when you have a project that you have to ramp up for and only a week or so to do it. Then, I guess, you have to go and fork over the money.
FTFA: At that time, people currently using any GAIN-related software products will be offered the chance to uninstall them, or continue using them through the new purchaser.
So, some other company is going to continue business as usual? I don't care what sort of agreement the new owners have to abide by, there's always a way around such things. For all we know, the new purchaser could be just another entity that's owned by Claria via several layers of legal entities.
I would have said less flamebait and more funny:-)
I thought it was funny and the little bit of an edge added to the sarcasm. Some of the folks who get their mod points take themselves waaayyy too seriously. What's the point in modding someone down? They'll just get lost in the noise if nobody mods them up. And in the meantime, there's one less mod point for folks who say something really interesting or insightful who do get lost in the noise because some mod had to use their points to mod someone down that they disagreed with. I very rarely see someone modderated as "Flamebait" or "Troll" who really deserve it. And most of the time, folks who start their posts with "You're stupid..", "You're an idiot.." or something that I considered to be rude and "Flamebait" get modded insightful.
What's the deal? I'm not a space flight engineer or anything like that, but why didn't they have a test flight with a test package or something - not a customer's satelite!? That satelite was an Airforce Academy (taxpayer money - OUR money) experiment. Who's going to pay for it?
And this The 34-year-old South African native made his fortune in the dot-com world by co-founding the PayPal electronic payment system, then selling it to eBay for $1.5 billion in 2002.
Considering all the consumer complaints I've heard about PayPal, I don't think I'd want to do business with one of the people who started that company.
Hmm. An e-mail spammer demonstrates that he is a lowlife scumbag who deserves to be killed.
Killed?! No way! He should go to jail and hopefully, someone (his new husband) will demonstrate (on him) how effective his penis enlargement pills worked.
Yeah, but at what age can a baby levarage development patterns? No baby is going to be much use until he (she) knows the difference between a Singleton and a Factory.
Well, if you'd buy him the Fisher Price Object Oriented Compiler with the accompanied Sponge Bob Square Pants development frameworks, he would learn about that. It's all the rage in India. Geeze! You're such a bad parent!

Begging people to use their shit and blaming MS for their woes instead of actually improving it.
Halloween gag. Not an April 1st gag!
Her new tits look AWESOME!

airplanes into buildings, bomb innocent people, or any such violent destructive buillshit; who cares if he does hate MS?
Everyone knows that you have to run a couple of different programs to get most of the spyware and adware off your machines. And those who don't know won't be using MS's anyway.
The 'through' instead of 'throw' actually looked correct the first couple of times I read it!
Aye aye aye! and Oy vey!

Fucking marketing!

As soon as I saw that, I knew it was some sort of marketing hype. Your post confirmed it.
Man, you have a second career! That's basically the structure of all the musicals I've seen. Write the play and you'll make more $$$ than you ever could in software!

Death would be the easy way out.
Yeah, if I try to access my document and I get "Nothing to see here. Move along.", it would really destroy what little self-esteem I have left.
