  1. Destroy Google? Hmmm on eBay Looking for Allies Against Google · · Score: 1

Doesnt it seem like everytime some new company comes around and gets good in 1 area, others are afraid of it, collaborate to take it down and while doing so Microsoft sneaks up out of no where and takes over. Either that or Microsoft was part of the collaboration to help another company and then backstabs them and then takes over

  2. One Must Fall : Battlegrounds on Throwing Himself On the Innovation Grenade · · Score: 1

While we are on the subject of innovative games that didn't succeed. OMF: Battlegrounds was a 3D sequel to the old dos fighting game. What was innovative is that it was a multiplayer online fighting game in 3D. It came out in like 2002/3. It never got enough press to help it, that and the company didnt have enough funds to really put on the extra polish of eye candy. The graphics were good, but one of the things so many reviews rated down on it, was that the graphics werent modern enough. But the gameplay was pretty good, you could even make teams and have team matches. If they would of been backed by a major studio more people would of heard about it, thats for sure.

With CPU speed not taking off drastically, there probably isnt as much desire to upgrade. Sure you can get a 64bit or dual or quad core CPU but that isnt the same. (note the # of comments is low because, well (1) its a holiday and (2) slashdot's database was getting tweaked or something, at least thats the message i got)

  6. Yeh but when would they hit the market? on Organic LED Could Replace Light Bulbs? · · Score: 1

Fluorescent bulbs that fit your regular lamps and such are kind of expensive, around $3-5 each for the ones that give off as much light as the old incandescent 100w bulbs. And about $2-3 for ones equale to 60w bulbs. Although you end up saving money later on your electricity bill and from buying new bulbs to make up for them.

I've already started replacing a lot of my old bulbs with the fluorescent spirally ones in the house. They don't give off as much heat either. I've seen regular LED lightbulbs for sale for regular fixtures but they are around $30+ each and I'm not even sure they have the same lumens a 100w bulb has.

  7. OH YEEEAHHH KOOL-AID! on In-Game Adverts Could Reach $2 Billion? · · Score: 1

Advertising has been around for awhile. The Atari had some Kool Aid game and a few others, including the rare Dog Food Chuck Wagon game. The NES had a few also, YO! Noid, McKids. In the past most football games would make fake ads of their own company and the publisher, but they then started going others as well. As long as it doesnt distract and seem out of place, i dont care too much. But if they do it during a map load or start having links in the UI for the lastest Neo-Station-Wagon or toothpaste its gone too far.

  8. They are spending money and we arent gettin a cut! on States Seeking Levies on Digital Downloads · · Score: 2, Interesting

That seems to be what the State Governments are saying. A lot of people sell stuff at garage sales and dont report the sales as taxes.

Reminds me when I was 11, my friend was mowing a few lawns that summer for money. He didnt make much maybe $60 bucks. But the IRS guy that came by their house was telling him and his parents he needed to file taxes the next year. I'm sure the IRS guy was being technically legal, but it seemed more anal to me.

  9. The Future of Mods? on Garry's Mod Goes Commercial · · Score: 1

It makes me wonder if this will become more and more common. Will more game engines allow you to sell your mod online? Right now it seems on Steam has that capability but who knows if future games will keep this in mind. I think there will always be a few free mods/skins/maps and so on, but the number may go down. The downside of course is that people that play your mod will be less and the people on servers running it will be lower as well.

I just hope it doesnt get too out of hand, thankfully there is still Enemy Territory Fortress - a free mod for a free game.

  10. Too many MMORPGs? on Pirates of The Carribean MMOG in 2007 · · Score: 1

  11. Rewetting drops on Contact Lenses for Computer Professionals? · · Score: 1

  13. Lots of kids in school on March Game Sales Trend Downward · · Score: 1

I think gaming tends to go up in summer and christmas break, I think sales would usually be higher around that time as well. We're also on the verge of new consoles hitting the market. Usually games for the old consoles tend to wind down some and people may be hesitant to pay $50 for a new game on an old system if they need to save up $ for the new system.

  14. More hype on Tech Workers in Higher Demand · · Score: 1

The only other system that has this game is the Playstation 2. This game isnt available to arcade emulators either, because the Capcom got smart and started encrypting stuff. Althougth the Dreamcast emulator Chanka will play this game.

  16. PunBB is a good forum on Preventing Forum Spam-bots? · · Score: 1

If you dont want to use PHPbb, PunBB is great. Its much easier to make themes for since its XHTML 1.0 strict compliant, so most of the changes you can make are done with just the CSS.

Although a good idea, that I've seen on a forum once was that any new users, cant make a new topic until they make at least 2 replies first. Most bots are setup to make new topics and not replies. Although I guess they could change that. Ive even seen one forum that makes you wait 48hrs before you can ever post.

Another idea is to make all links, use the rel=nofollow, so search engines wont follow the link. I doubt the bots check for that but thats really what they are after.

this bill doesnt mean much. They dont care much about the internet and dont really get it. And you can be sure the Media wont cover this very much or go into detail about it. They are more interested in who is sleeping with who in Hollywood, the funniest dog trick in the nation and how the latest junk food can cause cancer. I really dont see how anyone can even watch Corporate news anymore, it doesnt even mention anything worthwhile to us. They dont ask the hard questions, they arent concerned with the implications of current events in Washington and the average American wont get this piece of news and will never know it even passed by. Its like they just feed us a bunch of garbage while all the important stuff just gets ignored on purpose, because they dont want us to know.

  19. Flops? on Another Sony Format Bites the Dust · · Score: 1

Who cares if they flops, I'm no Sony fanboy, but any reasonable company that attempts new ideas will make flops. Nintendo had Virtual Boy, Sega had numerous flops, the Laser Disc (those huge ones) was a flop, Apple has had flops. Of course Sega went down because they had too many flops, but they were taking risks and trying to bring new life to their company. Sony has enough other products and revenue they can take risks like this with no problem.

Usually the release happens in Japan first, because they have to translate all the games first. Not just text but also any little image icons. I highly doubt it will release worldwide first. Ive seen screenshots of web apps that used the same background as the page and it was hard to tell where the screenshot started and began plus the guy showed little pictures rather than a full shot but again it seemed like it was part of the page maybe just put a border around it Thumbnails are nice, preferably ones that arent the 500k JPG just resized Next/Prev buttons are nice if you are going to use a popup to show the screenshots
