You mean a "volume knob"?
I hear they make a special one made of wood that dampens out distortions or something like that. It's a bit expensive though. Maybe it's no longer available - only links I could find were archived.
Darn.
Well, it's true: adding IS easier than factoring primes. It's also easier than dividing by zero, trisecting an angle with a compass and straightedge, and calculating the last digit of pi.
How do you then explain the Bennett Haselton (am I remembering the right guy?) summaries that/. uses? Maybe it's been a while but they could run *very* long.
Bad counterexample. Speed limits don't *cause* people to drive faster or more dangerously. A law that exacerbates the problem it was trying to solve is a bad law. That's [apparently] what the anti-texting law is doing.
I think the speech-to-text idea is a good one, unfortunately it doesn't work yet. I use Google Voice and when my wife leaves me a voicemail it gets translated to text, and about 80% of the time I can't tell what she's said. Sometimes it's so far off, I get a good laugh from it. Here's an example from last month:
Hey Honey, It's me. I want you to give naked room. I mean I wish I get his cellphone number. I might. I'll I maybe I'll give him a call, okay. Thanks.
I suppose it could help if she had some training on how to talk so that it would understand, but I don't know of any such training.
Yeah, it's best to keep all the costs hidden so when something goes wrong, noone thinks "But it cost XXX!!" They can just comfort themselves with the fact that they paid "nothing".
I can't stop thinking of Nacho Libre. Probably not a good association for an office software suite. Since we have Opera, and Symphony (Lotus/IBM's office suite), why not something musical like Concerto Office, Orchestra Office or Quintet Office?
Yodobashi Camera seemed like a pretty nice store when I was in Akihabara. I admit I didn't get to spend much time or money there. With eight floors, I could have spent a lot more of both.
Not by the usual definition. Tantalum is a transition metal that happens to lie between hafnium and tungsten on the periodic table. Rare earths generally means lanthanides: Lanthanum through Lutetium, and including Neodymium, Europium, Gadolinium and Samarium among others (Samarium-Cobalt is a common type of rare earth magnet.)
Except those are Wieners (after the capital of Austria), not Weiners (which should be pronounced like "whiner"...and he'll certainly be doing that as well.)

Don't know him but I sure dug Emma Peel. (TV not radio)

Why not? They've been allies before ;-)
$500/year?
Verizon - unlimited data plan: $29.99/month approx= $360/year.
IIRC, my Dremel tool (which has a brushed motor) can do 30,000 RPM. I expect dental drills can go even faster.
Some would argue that those people are idiots. [weasel words ;-)]
I can imagine other possibilities, such as putting us in zoos or under microscopes, but I'd vote for your number 3.

and probably better battery life as well. If the batteries do go, it's easier to change AA's than to charge the iPhone.
I think they're already pretty much frozen, in the 1980s.

Perhaps you're thinking of pederasty?

In other words, it's a moot point.
Shortwave radio. There, are you happy now?
I used to SWL when I was in my teens on an old Hallicrafters receiver that had about a dozen tubes. Good times. Wish I still had that radio.
OK, I looked it up, and found it only had eight tubes.
Collected a lot of QSL cards with that radio.

It's that wet stuff that falls from the sky on the other side of the mountains where almost all the people live.
Sincerely,
"The Coast"
PS, I lived in Pullman, WA for a time and it was known to rain there on occasion.
Well, it rains much more in the winter but it can rain any time of year.

The Pacific Northwest.
Yeah! Take him to Room 101.

Trying to get your Christmas present early, are you? Bad boy.
As the AC parent sibling is getting at...
Ah, good ol' Uncle AC!
