I could not have said it better. It's a sad state of affairs. As my subject says, your not considered cool if your a kid and into science especially chemistry. But the whole town will reward you if your a star quarterback.
I remember once a while back their was a 20/20 episode it was about "The American Family" and the interviewer asked a 14 year old boy "What is your greatest fear growing up?"
the kid said "Becoming a Geek" --- where you read Geek - read "smart"
o well
Sony won. Freedom lost. Period.
Do you actually think anything different would happen?
We gotta start to learn to do exactly what any large corp. tells us to do, and stop messing with their property that you paid for.
I spit on all this controlling technology. I refuse to buy into it.
I have a 2G phone - it makes calls.. Im happy.
I have no Ipod, Ipad or any Icrap. Don't need it
I have no game consoles, Xbox Nintendo or Sony crap - Boycotted!
I have no Blue Ray Player - Never Ever
I have an old DVD player - don't use that much anymore.
I have only 40 CD's which I don't listen to. Got a few non-DRM mp3's
I have no DRM'ed E-Reader. NOT EVER
I Run Linux!
Free at last, free at last! Thank God Almighty I'm free at last!
It's in the way thees corporations treat the "infringers" after the fact. That pisses me off more than anything.
$1,000 per song - Bullshit
Thousands $$$ in dragged out litigation - Bullshit
Seizing property and entering homes - Big Bullshit
Bullying and threatening the very people that buy their warez - Bullshit
Getting the federal government to do their dirty work - Bullshit
Is everyone blind?
So for that reason more than any I don't feel sorry for thees corps whatsoever. Continue your streaming and torrenting!
I keep making this comparison, but I must again. If I catch a guy breaking my car windows, I can't expect to win a case where I sue for %1000 the price of the windows. And the government won't come to my aid. It just don't work for us "citizens". But The Big Corporation can.
And I am sorry if you don't agree, but downloading or streaming a movie or song once and a while IS JUST NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL. PERIOD.
(I'ts just a bunch of ones and zeros anyway!;) )
The punishment does not fit the crime. (even if it is a "crime")
I had a tenant at a house we rented out, who up and left with over $3,000 in back rent. I had to take him to court and I was waiting for a person from the Justice Department to come and help me collect what was rightfully mine. He never came. I was awarded less than half of the amount he owed - paid over 2 years.
Justice at its finest.
Perhaps I should have sued for $3,000,000.
I think I have posted this before but its still true:

"Have you ever dreamed of owning a huge company just so you can sue the shit out of anyone in your line of sight?" Sound like fun..
Im not saying its a health concern, not at all. However I sometimes mess with decoding low earth orbiting satellites and other Ham related digital projects. I have learned the hard way that having a sensitive receiver in the same room as a computer especially with no cover on is dicy at best. I have been known to run motherboards on a stack of books with a power supply dangling off for testing purposes. Back in the late 80's (ok im dating myself) I used to work in a small computer store and a ham operator complained and the FCC found we had no certifications on our custom build machines, basically shutting us down for a while.
It's not unsafe, however without a grounded metal chassis, it will radiate a great deal of RF interference. You could not sell them assembled in this form because they would never pass FCC rules for RFI
Actually, don't laugh. Large farm suppliers are trying to stop farmers from using seed from a previous crop, so they have to purchase new seeds and plants from their suppliers. Other industries are learning from the crap the big tech companies are pulling.
"This is like buying a computer and then being told you can only run Windows on it"
Now that thees companies know how far they can push the consumer with this controlling bullshit and FUD, they look back as say "Why did we make personal computers so personal and open?" "We could have been in control for years!" Remember what Steve Jobs stated "The era of the personal computer is coming to an end..." So don't be surprised if tomorrows "personal computers" are locked down like the PS3 and locked into a specific OS. Thees guys are reeling at the fact that you can do whatever you want with your personal computer. And when they have control they will sue you if your try to install Linux.
Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely
We here at sony have the right to make money. All you hacker, crackers, and slashdotters think you are all so smart. Remember we have to feed our families and put bread on the table. For every hack posted, more of our families are starving. So to all of you hacking, thinking of hacking, dreaming of hacking, watching others hack, or talking about hacking - we will find you and destroy you to keep food on our table. You may have purchased a PS3, but we still own it, every last one. We have the law on our side. We will hunt you down, your children and mothers. We will sue anyone in our way or in our line of sight. You are all guilty of grievous actions. We will make you pay for starving our families. You think you can do what you want, but we are in control. Thees are our game consoles. We are collecting your IP address and are sending subpeonas to slashdot and your service provider as we speak.
With that out of the way, please indicate below if you want to sign up for a %10 discount coupon for our new PS4 and be one of the first to receive this new and best playstation ever.

This is the way of things in the world today.
Ok Consider the following:
While I wasn't home some drunk guy wanders on my property and smashes my bird bath, crushes my garden gnomes, empties my swimming pool, slices my vinyl siding, tears up my petunias, and smashes a window.
Now I have this all on video and later he is arrested, so there is no question of his guilt. Then I drag him into court to recover my damages which are only $700. However I file the suit for asking for $1000,000.
Now this is REAL property with REAL damage..
Don't you think I would be laughed out of court?
OH! But we will sue your service provider for your name and address!
Then we will sue their provider
And internet backbone providers
And the makers of the routers that your packets cross (Cisco, Lucent, Netgear)
And the maker of the OS you use
And your dog, cat and wife.
FOR THIS IS OUR PROPERTY YOUR STEALING! YOU WILL ALL PAY!
Interesting that this was attached to the main unit with 4 bolts which sheared off..

"in the name of overreaching safety" You mean overreaching litigation? Right?
I'll leave all my house doors and windows open too. Better signal propagation!
Perhaps they feel it's an inside job.. At least partly.
Security through obscurity never works, nor should it be tried.

I have always considered Apple Computers nice looking pieces of furniture.
After all, function follows form.. Right?
How about patents and copyrights are to prevent others from making money on your work.
But have nothing to do with you loosing money on your work.

It is really sharp stream. It's unfortunate this HD stream comes just in time for the end of the shuttle program. :(

That's why I wold never help a seemingly lost, crying child that got separated from his or her's parents at say a fair or mall. Just walk on by.
