You must remember that it is also the way that you count the votes that matters too. You would be surprised how a slightly different method of counting the votes can give you DIFFERENT RESULTS!
Unfortunately, a method which is "the best" does not seem to lend itself immediately.
What really needs to happen is the artists move away from the record industry and movie industry, and start distributing it on their own.
Yeah, it'll be tough for the artist(s) to compete with huge companies, but if the artist is actually good, (assuming consumers are willing to donate money in exchange for good music / movies directly to the artist) that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Furthermore, if the companies have nothing to sell, then there's nothing to pirate!
Unfortunately, USB cables can only be about 16 feet (5 meters) long before the connection times out..and that doesn't really help a great deal, especially since the couch is 50 feet away from the server.
Back in high school, a friend and I learned how to use the SMTP protocol, around the same time we also found out that the school's SMTP server was exploitable. It didn't check that the FROM was actually in the system.
Sending emails like 'you are more stupid than the bible' to unsuspecting and ignorant teenagers from 'sysadmin', 'god' or some random string of letters is always fun! It tickles me.
This is my theory of how the next 50ish years will play out:
Due to the lack of good music being produced, single artists will get together and become well known, more or less on their own due to live performances and self-promotion and also due to their actual talent.
What I'm pointing out is the progression of music from the early 1900s to the 1950s, when the appreciation of music was legitimate and talent was REQUIRED to earn respect. Hype did not exist AS MUCH AS IT DOES NOW (there's always hype or else humans don't find it interesting or something). This is same progression is going to happen in the future, when the (mostly) pure (forced) crap that is being released now isn't enough to satisfy.
This legitimate appreciation will continue until the hype, once again, will arise; something that large corporations can exploit; hence RIAA 2.0 .
However I could be totally wrong...This is actually a dream I have (minus the RIAA 2.0 part).
When you vote, you most certainly do have the right to complain, especially when the candidate you voted for did not get elected.
Why?
The beauty of this country is that if you don't like what's going on, you can speak out about it (without being killed (by the government at least)); and this country is large enough where there is probably some group of people who agrees with you. Is it easy to do this? Of course not! It takes a level of dedication that seems to be lacking in these times, which may or may not explain the hopeless corruption you speak of.
The apathy of the people however, is what really defines the corruption. If you don't vote, who says the mindless drones or rabid radicals won't vote for [insert stereotypically corrupted, sycophantic or malicious person here]? If you don't vote, you don't participate, and you can't expect everything to go your way in activities that you don't participate in.
So you vote for a candidate, and he/she wasn't elected. Now you have four years promote yourself, or some other person so that when the time comes, the person who you want in office gets that much more of a chance to lead your country in the way that you want to be lead.
That's my thought on voting, and though I probably wouldn't like to die for my vote or this country, I certainly wouldn't trade it for a superficial object (ipod) or any sum of money.
Lets say God exists. Lets say God creates a program, in other words, our universe. Lets say that the program has rules which handle changes in the fundimental makeup of organisms. Lets say these changes, spread amongst a population, is what we like to call an evolution of the population, otherwise, its a mutation. (please correct me if i'm wrong)
What I'm trying to understand is why its so hard to grasp that maybe God ran the program and let it go! Sure He may be working hard to 'roll the dice', but the fact is that everything is ruled by the laws of physics which was ALSO created by God, and interestingly enough, represented by equations. God created everything, right? We created 'science' in an attempt to explain everything. I think its safe to conclude that science describes the program, which God created separate from Himself. The Bible describes God. I also think its possible to admit that one can have faith in the existance of God and also know why things happen.
The only way the moon would be doomed along with the earth is if the earth lost its orbit, or blew up, and if earth lost its orbit, definitely if the earth blew up, that will mess up the rest of the solar system. The solar system is a delicate gravitational balance and if any planet, especially if it is removed suddenly, the whole entire system will fall apart. Maybe it won't completely fall apart, but it will definitely change. Can't wait to look for new solar systems.:P
I definitely agree that the article is very misleading. In such a case you could say the biggest object is all of the galaxies put together! Now that's just silly.
This is just a case of "yay big numbers!", of which the only one I would be interested in is the 3D volume of the universe.
"screen printing becomes suspect and may even be taken away as an option because it is potentially used for pirating."
Its called using an old keyboard...are they going to take that away too? So sure, they can be Big Brother and take away my keyboard; they'll have to change the OS too. Just because the key isn't on the keyboard doesn't mean I can't invoke it!
What will they do in the case of public places such as a coffee shop or library?
I work at a public library and people with laptops ask me all the time whether or not there is a password to access the wireless network.
The answer is no, because it is public, not that we don't care about the security, but because it fulfills the definition of public: Open to the knowledge or judgment of all.
Isn't it true that Blu-ray is a readily burnable format?
If I recall correctly, the data storage is 25 GB per side, whereas HD-DVD is 15 GB. In this respect Blu-ray is a given winner simply because it has more space, say for archival reasons. What would you archive? pr0n!
But seriously, this will become handy...why were 2 GB HDs and 16 megs of ram good 10 years ago?
What's it going to be 10 years in the future? 4.2 GB is gonna be tiny!
In this respect, Blu-ray wins; HOWEVER, the only way these two formats would co-exist is because they cover two completely different areas of data.
Or delete it... The exe is in system32 and is called WgaTray. Kill the process, then real quick (i mean real quick) delete the executable! Bye bye wgatray!:D Now all I have to do is boot in safe mode and delete the complemetary WgaLogon.dll.:P
You mean this?
"Is Hushmail even safe to use anymore?"
When was Hushmail ever safe?
When was ANY kind of encryption "safe"?
All you need is a high level of persistence given a level of encryption.
I guess you could call something safe if the time required to "crack" a encryption scheme is greater than a human lifetime.
> "Make good games that run on reasonable hardware"
Rogue is still an awesome game

Don't forget The Animorphs!
The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy is both hilarious and accessable.
Or maybe if they are feeling dangerous:
NEUROMANCER!!!!!!!!!!

Christ on a stick.

Yeah, it was called Tremors.
I think it was a TV show also.

Augh! The food metaphors are killing me!

Ever read Neuromancer? Why not a primative version of 'the matrix'?
Considering how fast the human brain works: 100 trillion instructions per second, a machine of insane and raw speed would be needed. I can't wait! :D
>But, oh, our poor widdle local monopolies can't compete against all that howwibble competition. It just makes me mad enough to spit.
Amen.

Simple: Its easy to take advantage of stupid people. xD!
Then again it all comes down to whether the consumer cares / truely understands what's going on:
"It works, leave it, don't fix if its not broken"
