Could it not be possible that the reason they've scaled back lies with the fact Apple are trying to drive their efforts on the business market / Snow Leopard?

I was under the impression Apple's primary focus at the moment was to try and grab the business market by solidifying Mac OS as a worthy platform / competitor to windows (inherent Exchange functionality, better AD support et al), along with the other features (64bit + opencl etc)

Perhaps they're just not ready and have nothing to announce? I sure as hell can't wait for Snow Leopard but going to Macworld just to be told "We're working on it, it'll probably be ready in 6 months" wouldn't exactly excite leave me feeling all that, satisfied.

To be honest though, if the UK government wants to censor that image and stop me from stumbling upon it while reading up on old bands / albums, I'd be more than happy for them to, in fact I'd like them to. I've worked for three major broadcasters in the UK as a Senior & normal Client-Side Developer. It's not so much a dislike as more of a catch up that's taking place at such corporations in order to adapt the very vast infrastructure they have to accommodate for new technologies / the web, the only annoyances are really the timescales involved in getting vast sites built or refreshed - the more time, the more money - that's what middle and upper management dislike.

Losing advertising revenue is inevitable as new advertising platforms emerge / change, to be honest though most broadcasters are either in the process of, or currently do offer some form of online on-demand / live services now (BBC iPlayer, 4oD, Sky Online), all of which utilise some form of DRM to protect and allow advertising to be implemented within the content, should they choose to.

  16. Re:less academic students, more education on Royal Society of Chemistry Slams UK Exam Standards · · Score: 1

Kids need to be treated according to their individual needs, not based on the lower common denominator. Which means get rid of this stupid standardised cookie cutter approach, and actually grade students (yes, I said it) according to ability.

While I agree, another major factor that I see affecting the capability of many students in higher education (In the UK at least), is the very careless attitude / 'the student mentality' towards their curriculum.

Students are inherently more interested in drinking copious amounts of alcohol, taking large quantities of drugs and generally doing as little as possible to pass their courses / grades.

University has been a traditionally 'fun' time but from conversations I've had with people of all ages / from different generations, this careless attitude has become all the more prevalent in recent years, allegedly.

I suppose that's not a surprise (in the UK at least), considering this country has a major drink & drug problem.

Likewise; I hated Apple and all Apple products for most of my computing life (the past 10-12 years of it), then I bought one of the new iMac's when they switched to Intel (Allowing me to run Windows for my current development needs).

After 2 months of using it I've migrated my whole IDE over to OSX, a combination of Textmate, XCode and a few other bits and bobs. I can't speak for any other uses but in terms of the development environment it has to offer I find it ultimately better than any alternative there is at the moment.

Everything about OSX just has a certain niceness to it, I actually enjoy using my computer now instead of wanting to throw my machine out the window everytime Windows crashes or everytime I have to screw around for 10 hours to configure something in Linux.

Granted, when Leopard was released it was buggy as hell, but every iteration update they have made has been a significant improvement (and _very_ regular), to the point that now it's the most solid OS for work and general purpose desktop usage that I've utilised.

Oh and I also recommend Mac's to friends now, infact the high regard my computer knowledge is held to from friends and people that know me, has since triggered several of them go out and spend that extra margin of money on a Mac machine - not one of them regrets it - even the ones that used to be die hard windows users.

    2 cents n' all.
