Re:Rice?Nothing compares to Arrogant Bastard Ale
This is an aggressive beer. You probably won't like it. It's quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.
-
100% OT
Did you name yourself after the beer or is it just how you describe yourself to others?
-
Truth in advertising
Well, that's refreshing. Maybe the gang got some hints on PR from Stone Brewing Company.

Re:Not the first time.
What's the incentive in collecting *full* cans of beer? AIU, beer doesn't get better with age, so why bother?
It depends on the beer. A Duff-like macroswill won't get better, but you should try getting a bunch of different vintages of something like Samichlaus together sometime and try them out (did a vertical earlier this year with '96, '01, '03, and '05). Big beers will last.
Age can even be beneficial. Double Bastard is kinda harsh when it's fresh, but mellows into something very drinkable after 2-3 years.

Re:^^ Phil Harrison
log in you arrogant bastard
Dude, its 5:30 on a Friday, I'm still at the office. I would kill for an Arrogant Bastard right now. -
Re:Blackberry is canadian not american
>we both drink Labatt, eh?
No, you and the canucks drink that piss. I drink Arrogant Bastard! -
Re:Why the hell...
I doubt you could get drunk on American beer no matter how much you drink.
Right, you've never tried craft beers. Educate yourself!.
And FYI, if a bottle of 10% abv Stone's Double Bastard doesn't do you in that means you have a serious problem. -
Some beer for that glass.> I have found that after switching to this glass not only do I typically only fill it half full, I rarely even finish it all.
I have found that after switching from 12-oz bottles (in which you cannot even find this BOFHiest of brews), to 22oz/750mL bottles (in which you can), to 3L bottles, even though I only typicallly fill glass your half full, I feel much better even if I rarely finish it all even.
They say beer, it makes you dumb,
It are go good with Slashdot.
Now that I have drunk some beer,
I will click "Submit".
BEER IS GOOD! BEER IS GOOD! BEER IS GOOD! AND STUFF!
BEER IS GOOD! BEER IS GOOD! BEER IS GOOD!
Let's go drink some BEER! -
Re:that's everybody, man
granted, the people i know who've worked for nasa and the hard-core gamers seem to be more likely to order fruity drinks in huge vases with multiple straws when out for an evening...
Meh. I hate foofy-drink geeks.
Shots of Cuervo, Jack, and Jaeger, and Jack and Cokes ("easy ice, easy coke"), all night. :-)but *everybody* likes a keg
Depends on what's in the keg. Arrogant Bastard? I'm in. Budweiser? No thanks, I'll catch the next party.
Luckily, all my friends know their beers. :-) -
Re:UK rules OKNot necessarily. The mass marketed beer does suck - avoid anything made by Budweiser, Coors, Miller, etc. I don't understand why people drink that junk. I guess it's the same reason people at Pizza Hut and Dominos Pizza - MARKETING!
There are many microbreweries in the USA that produce some excellent brews. Stone Brewing Company http://www.stonebrew.com/ in San Marcos, CA has a wonderful beer called Arrogant Bastard Ale http://www.arrogantbastard.com/. They frown upon 'tasteless fizzy yellow beer'.
I don't think brews like Sierra Nevada and Sam Adams can be considered microbrews because they have large nationwide distribution channels, but they're still decent beers.
My favorite beers happen to be from the UK: Newcastle and just about anything by Samuel Smith (Oatmeal Stout, Pale Ale, Nut Brown Ale). I'm assuming there are many microbrews in the UK that produce even better beers than those, but I don't know of any in the USA.
-
Re:UK rules OKSierra Nevada Pale Ale is far superior to Bass, and it's pretty much a mass market beer in the States at this point. I'm sure your local microbreweries do a far, far, better job that even that if you poke around a bit. Even Michael Jackson (the beer critic, not the freak of nature) has stated that the craft brewing industry in the US is producing better beers than the ones in Europe.
Remember that it doesn't need a multimillion dollar ad campaign to be good. If it does, then you are probably not worthy!

Re:I hate beer snobsGood stuff. I don't understand their Hop Pocket though, I can't stand that one (but not because it is piss beer, because it is much hoppier than your average human can stand).
If you think that Hop Pocket is hoppy, then you are definitely not worthy!
-
Re:550 Pounds of money?!?!?!?
Sorry, but your beer is weaker
Spoken by someone who is not familiar with the Bastard, no doubt. Then again, you're probably not worthy anyway.

Re:Linux beer?
And what have having sex on a boat and american beer in common?
Here's a quarter, kid...go buy yourself a clue. Better yet, go get some Arrogant Bastard and proceed to remove yourself from the gene pool, like the two unworthies in the cartoon.
Just because Bud/Miller/Coors are pisswater says nothing about real American beer. Would you judge other countries' beer by the swill from their megabreweries?
-
Re:It is a food
Not that I'm condoning drinking American beer
[Bud|Miller|Coors] != American beer. You'll get booed out of nearly any homebrew club meeting just for mentioning one of those.
We have plenty of real beer here...it's just not advertised with multi-million-dollar ad campaigns that try to convince you that their products will make you more attractive to the opposite sex. You probably have some brewpubs in your town that'll have the freshest beer you can get. You more than likely have one or two liquor stores in town that stock a wide variety of local and regional microbrews. You probably haven't heard of most of them, and most of them aren't pilsner-like light lagers...but most of them are pretty decent.
(My drinking preferences lean toward pale ale, amber ale, porter, stout, and trippel...but some Arrogant Bastard Ale is also good once in a while, too. (In fact, I just bottled a Bastard clone this morning.) If you can track down some Sam Adams Utopia, that stuff kicks ass...it's kinda like scotch, but smoother.)

American beers are made of piss
There's a rather good explanation for this. Not that I'm defending it, but rather explaining it to understand it and adress it at the root cause.
Prohibition was a scary time for Americans, particularly breweries - most of which went out of business. Prohibition was created by women marching in the streets, complaining that their husbands had become drunks in the saloons. Who could blame them - during the depression, there weren't many jobs to keep them occupied.
When prohibition was repealed, the breweries wanted to create beer that would appeal to women, so that they would become consumers and not vote again for prohibition. So they made their beers lighter, and specialized in the lager field that they felt was more approachable for those who weren't accustomed to drinking beer.
Sadly, America's beer development was stuck on training wheels until about the 80s, when certain individuals started experimenting with brewing their own. This launched a movement where people started becoming more interested in flavor rather than just getting drunk.
In case you haven't been to this side of the pond recently, there are many wonderful breweries that severly stomp on most European breweries which are stuck doing things the way they did around the time that America was discovered. I'd highly reccomend checking out some of these breweries:

Funny, not hysterical
I'm going to sue^H^H^H KILL you, for after reading your puny post; I spilled my Arogant Bastard Ale all over my pants. It's time to kiss the knuckles, silly boy!

Re:Geek Guide to Dating> Get yourself a subscription to The Spice Channel and a 12 pack. It's about as close as you need to get. I know what I'm talking about here, I'm married and it's Valentine's Day and I'm going to go broke before the day is over.
Spice channel? You mean, like pay for pr0n? You're new to this "geek" thing, aren't you?
Recommended beer: "Arrogant Bastard Ale".
Recommended pr0n that's worth paying for: "Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb Movie"
Nothin' says lovin' like a 12-pack of Arrogant Bastard, a subwoofer vibrating the chair, and an entire room glowing a spooky shade of reddish-orange as the bombs go off.
(The only thing redder than the fireball from the explosion was the redshift of my last date's ass as she receded at z=5.9

Re:Home-brewing Kit
They won't let you bring in alcohol without signing it in for the record. Make your own!!! Nobody is the wiser...
Given that you need to boil the wort (for those of you who don't brew, that's the barley-malt-and-hops solution that, along with yeast, is what beer is made of) for about an hour, that presents two problems: (1) finding a burner to do the job (a hotplate won't cut it and you probably don't want to use whatever common kitchen facilities your dorm might have) and (2) hiding the smell (and it is strong) from someone who might rat you out. There are kits where supposedly all you do is just stir some ingredients together and let it sit for a while, but you'll likely get something that resembles pisswater more than b e e r.

Re:wine confusion
I prefer stuff like Coors, Miller, and Colt45.
That stuff's bilgewater, not beer. I can make better beer than that (just bottled 5 gallons of a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale clone two weeks ago...haven't had any of it yet because it hasn't settled out, but the two batches (one pale ale, one amber ale) before it turned out pretty well).

Arrogant Bastards
Not everyone can be an arrogant bastard. I'm surprised I haven't heard this from an OpenBSD user...
This is a aggressive operating system. You probably won't like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the interest or sophistication to be able to appreciate an OS of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory - maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it's made in a little development house, or one that implies that their unstable ugly weak OS will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make an OS work better. Perhaps you're mouthing your words as you read this.
