Then I think you want this videocard.

Blue Squads of DeathThis whole fiasco reminds me of an old BBSpot article:

And then there's BBSpot...
And their review of the same pairing.

Re:Anyone who owns a copyright?"They would like the legislation to exempt anyone who owns a copyright, patent, trademark, or trade secret from restrictions against pretexting." Actually that was just an error by the lawyers. They really only want to have the right for pretexting given solely to them. As you can see in this flowchart, it fits in the area where they want to lobby Congress for stronger laws (read stronger laws and additional government enforced corporate privileges like the DMCA). This helps prevent them from having to pray for someone to cave from an extortion letter when they could easily make something up with their extra privileges and sue them outright (not that they don't do that anyways).

Re:Mod up.
I agree with your point that some people refuse to see things which contradicts their stances. You have scientific evidence that the Earth is not 7000 years old, but you also have miracles, weeping sculptures and so on. Personally, I think that you don't need to see God on T.V. for Him to exist. Anyway, here's a funny read related to what you said.

Their New Mission Statement
The RIAA changed their mission statement to reflect their priority to stay the most hated company in America. I think it's a good strategy.

Re:Lets assume they had the funding
I think we should be more worried about the killer germs on the asteroid. At least that's what this article says.

Yeah, just like this guy

Re:And the problem is?
After you apply XP SP3 you'll do anything to upgrade to Vista. That's Microsoft's strategy at least.

Re:the code..
bool recommend = true;
Um... I hope that you don't plan on working for Google cause that's got 1 syntax error and 1 logic error in 4 lines of code. I'll leave the syntax error as an exercise for the reader. The logic error is that you still hire the person with the evil resume - unless of course that was your plan all along and you're just forwarding the resume to Microsoft as a big f*** you to Balmer (after all, they did buy evil from Satan - is Google trying to steal that away too?)
if (surveyResults == Evil())
forwardResumeToMicrsoft(bool recommend);
hire(); -
Har har

I share your sentiment
For example, did you know that 99.99% of high school students can't read Perl?. Shameful, shameful.

Auto Slashdot Story Generator
You guys have missed the best part of the site -- the menu link on the left side of the page: http://www.bbspot.com/toys/slashtitle/index.html which creates (incredibly believable) stories to post to

Got a good laugh out of that one...
Actually, the site in question has a lot more satirical (and IT-oriented) funny stories.
Perhaps not on the BOFH level, but still they have some pretty witty stuff, like God Going After Bible Pirates, or Sony's Self-Destructing DVD Player(TM) Most of these skits are several years old, but still very relevant today.
. Thanks for posting this!

Yay for joke sites submitted as news!You know, you really should warn us of the site you're sending us to in these kinds of cases. Because I wouldn't put this past the MPAA for reals.
And the newly elected congress might be just busy enough to say 'sure sure' and pass something like this through.
I prefer the other MPAA story they have on their site though: MPAA to Thwart Pirates By Making All Movies Suck (It would be funnier if it wasn't so true.)

bbspot.com is a satire siteFrom their about site:
Called "the world's greatest tech humour site" by The Register, BBspot creates entertainment for the geekier side of the world. BBspot produces a variety of features like fake news stories satirizing the tech and political worlds, the BBspot Mailbag which pokes fun at the Believers (people who believe our fake news) and much more.
Aren't there any editors around here?

Excellent reference, but the uninitiated need a link. Heh. The hair. So funny.

Lagging behind? According to this article, Mac's have had this feature since 2000.

Well it's just that Mac users have other preferences...

Ipod Vs. Zune Showdown
I think this conclusively shows that the iPod will triumph over the Zune.

Re:story line
Peter Jackson did a great job with LotR. There were lots of special effects, to be sure, but most weren't relly all that spectacular. It just that they came in second to the actual story line and acting. Gollum was believable because of Andy Serkis; Jar-Jar just looked fake, as did many other CG characters in Star Wars.
But what about the Jar-Jaromir character that almost made it into the Return of the King? -
Re:Old News
The improvements to WGA certainly are newsworthy.

Game Box Reviews
Of course there's always the game box reviews of Doom 3, Far Cry and Freedom Force which are LOL.

Re:42%
Don't worry the new version or WGA requires fingerprints and DNA. It should be flawless.
-
Re:Ahem...
But if you don't use WMP to rip CDs you can still download all the DRM you want at their new store.

Re:Lists Lists Lists
You need to read the list of the five reasons you shouldn't list to blog lists. I wish more people would take its advice.

Reminds me of the story
About the Nigerian philanthropist who couldn't give away his money because everyone thought he was a scammer.

Re:24" cinema display please?
I'd hate to see the 24" version of this Mac.

Re:The Game that Seized My Time
I did the same exact thing. The time played was just too much, and I reached a point where I had to say enough is enough. I took two characters to level 60 in a relatively short amount of time. And was working on my third and fourth when reality set in. I don't know if the expansion will bring me back though. Here's a way for all you addicts to celebrate hitting level 60 though.

Re:Much ado about nothing?
Good idea on encouraging more kids to take an interest in computer technologies but it might just get them into trouble with dumbass teachers.

Re:Except for the fact
Not as cute as this computer...

Power of the Web
A testament indeed to the power of the web. And the power of exploding batteries as satire fodder.

Well HP recently rewrote windows to make their drivers compatible.

Who needs EGA? I'm still waiting for this card with text game acceleration.

Easy linux for masses
'a Linux distribution for everyone -- designed to be easy to install and learn for users without prior Linux'
Seriously, isn't this what Ubuntu (or Kubunto, for those who prefer KDE) is supposed to be? Or Red Hat? Or did I miss something?
Am I the only one who finds this article insightful, rather than funny? -
Re:Don't give them ideasI can just see it. Next thing you know, the RIAA hires hitmen instead of lawyers.
It wouldn't surprise me. They would simply be taking a page out of Microsoft's play book.

Re:Not really a backdoorThats like filming the movie with a highdef camera off of your LCD and saying they left another door wide open!
Actually, they are already trying to plug that hole using Camera DRM
"I tried to send a picture of my daughter to her Uncle Tim, but this window popped up saying it was blocked. I decided to print it out and mail it to him. There was a 14-page license agreement that printed out first that I had to fill out and fax to Sony so they could send me an authorization code to print out the picture."
I also remember reading about a proposed DRM that consists of a watermark in the video stream that would disable future digital cameras. Cant find a reference for that, but I'm sure if it can be done, they will do it.

Most posts offtopic
PHP seems to be one of those red-button topics on Slashdot. If the word even appears in the text of the story, the topic at hand is dropped entirely in favour of having a big wanking session and patting each other on the back for knowing a 'superior' language, or for having been into Linux 'before it was cool', or whatever the general topic happens to be.
And not only is this stuff offtopic, it's also just so painfully redundant. I swear, that Slashdot story generator page from a while back was pretty impressive, but I'm starting to think maybe I could cook up a Slashdot comment generator as an add-on.
// Wooooooooo! Watch out for magic quotes!
if(get_magic_quotes_gpc())
{
echo 'FUK U U FUKKEN DIKKED WEBHOST I AIN RUNNEN NO FUKKEN SITE WIV NO FUKKEN MAGIC QUOTES' . "\n";
exit;
}
// And now for a basic example of some comment generation
if (strpos($story, 'DRM'))
{
echo 'DRM is bad.' . "\n";
while (strrpos(date('l'), 'y') === 0) // what a FUKKEN MESS111
{
echo 'Yes, DRM is very, very bad indeed.' . "\n";
}
}
