Re: Holy Mutually Exclusive Things, Batman!
they lack merit for the reasons I already presented
Those "reasons" just being an assertion that all people are equally bad. That requires putting on blinders or pretzel twisting to explain what's going on in Europe due to immigration:

Then can you guarantee Sweden would allow me to become a citizen?
Yes. Go to Sweden. Ditch your passport and any other identification. Claim asylum refugee status and claim to be under 18. Presto, you are in:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...
Will you purchase my fixed property or guarantee me property in exchange in Sweden?
Put it on the market and you will get market value.
Will you arrange transportation of my portable goods?
One must make some personal sacrifices to avoid their dastardly neighbors and help the poor migrants, right?
But even if they are lions, I'm already beset by tigers and bears. And snakes. Lots of snakes. Why don't you care about the snakes I do have to face right now?
Then provide details. Where do you live? What, exactly, have these horrible people done to you or others?

No one is going to ban honest criticism or the expression of opinions. But they ARE going to ban threats of violence or inciting others to commit violence.

Potential
The potential to take away the job of censor is very much a good thing. No reasonable person would object to automating filtering of child porn for example.
The potential to define as offensive is ripe for political abuse. For example in the last couple days the Guardian has called for 'misogyny' to classified as hate speech. No such call is made about misandry showing the double standard and political leaning of those who would define the standard.
https://www.theguardian.com/te...
http://www.breitbart.com/londo...Take the guardian example, who gets to define misogyny? What is classified as misogyny? The redefining of everything from rape to sexual assault has shown that definitions have changed for political purposes. Unfortunately these definitions can have very large life changing impacts on their victims.
For years Google didn't even have a definition for misandry. Think about that, it was inconceivable to one of the world's largest and most influential companies that hate did not fit a single mold. Are you ready to have your speech censored by algorithms defined by people with political agendas?
-
Coming to America too
For years the so-called "progressives" have been arguing for a ban on "hate speech". It is already verbotten on most campuses.
On occasion, they may even threaten violence — while accusing "the haters" of making them "feel unsafe". Obviously, some hate is more equal than others.
When this generation graduates and goes on to work at businesses (including their legal departments), as well as government-institutions, they'll bring their notions with them.

Re:Litmus test / Logic test
If nothing on Hillary's server was classified it should be released without redaction for full review and inspection by any party. That has not happened, and it won't happen. FOI requests regarding information on her server are denied almost as soon as they are filed.
You aren't giving credit where credit is due. Judicial Watch has a lawsuit pursuing information along these lines, and is making progress. (They accept donations in their fight against corruption.)
In fact you can thank them for the progress being made:
Judicial Watch Statement on State Department OIG Report on Hillary Clinton’s Email Practices
It was Judicial Watch’s litigation that almost certainly forced the State Department to publicly disclose Hillary Clinton’s secret email account that is now the subject of a scathing Inspector General Report. A statement by the State Department in a February 2, 2015, status report in response to a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit was the first notice to the public and the court that State had failed to thoroughly search all of Clinton’s email records: “[The State Department] has discovered that additional searches for documents potentially responsive to the FOIA must be conducted.” That statement was the first acknowledgement of Clinton’s secret email. And now, nearly a year and a half later, the State Department’s own Inspector General is confirming the gravity of Clinton’s end run around the law. Judicial Watch already uncovered much of the information cited in this report. But the OIG report will be helpful in upcoming questioning of witnesses about the Clinton email matter.

Re:obviously 266% duties imposed in march failed
Well it sure isn't helping that Obama is trying to bankrupt US coal producers whose financial health directly impacts US steel production. In the place of a real presidential cabinet where things are weighed with all factors and research is done before taking a position... we have had the Department Of CO2 Is Evil And Fuck Everything Else calling the shots. I would go so far as to assume these 'save de planet coal haters' did not even know that coal is a critical precursor to steel production, which is a keystone of domestic manufacture. It was probably on page 3 of the memo.
And Hillary also thinks that intermittent energy can replace constant coal in electricity production.
March of the stupids.

Just as Donald Trump suggested?
The New York Times reports that the Department of Defense's Cyber Command unit is mounting cyberattacks against the terrorist organization.
Contrary to numerous reports echoing each other mocking Donald Trump (but, curiously, not Hillary Clinton) of wanting to "shut down the Internet", his actual proposal was different. Specifically, it was just this:
“I’m not talking about closing the Internet. I’m talking about parts of Syria, parts of Iraq, where ISIS is, spotting it. Now, you could close it. What I like even better than that, is getting our smartest and getting our best, to infiltrate their Internet, so, that we know exactly where they’re going, exactly where they’re going to be. I like that better.”
Nice to know, somebody somewhere was listening... Time, perhaps, for NY Times itself to apologize for or, at least, correct their own piece calling Trump's (and, Clinton's) proposals a "fantasy".

Re:Could hacktivists be defeating their own purpos
I am guessing that groups like the KKK are monitored by federal law enforcement.
At this point, most of the members are probably FBI agents.
Could such hacking muck with ongoing investigations?
Yup.
BTW: what has the KKK done in the last 50 years? A few pointless marches?
Indeed. This is just pointless if not counter-productive moral preening by SJWs high on over-hyped racism/"white supremacy" bullshit. It's the modern version of '50s McCarthyites seeing a Commie under every bed. It's the same mania that recently led college students to mistake a priest with rosary beads for a KKK member with a whip.

Not like Iran at all
It isn't anything like the Iranian system. Virtually anybody can run for President with only a few restrictions.
During the 2008 election, Ron Paul had 9.1% of the votes (roughly, depending on specific vote and time).
I watched with astonishment how Fox news reported the results for candidates that got less than Ron Paul, but didn't report Ron Paul's results.
During that primary, the GOP had a rule that a candidate needs to win 8 states to be considered a candidate in the convention.
They changed that rule from 5 to 8, specifically to exclude Ron Paul.
Cruz might not win 8 states, so the GOP is changing the rules to lower that number to allow Cruz to be on the ballot.
It isn't *anything like the Iranian system. We have about 200 people who control the election, while Iran has only one.
A really big difference. Big whoop.

The one promise Obama kept
The Administration may have failed to bring America's gasoline prices to the European levels. But the promise to bankrupt the coal-industry is coming fulfilled.
Maybe, he sincerely believes, coal is a poison and should go away. But it is far more likely, that he — or some of his more pragmatic allies in the party — are simply scheming to buy the companies for pennies on the dollar and then politically rehabilitate the fuel with the help of politicians grateful for their donations. And even ask taxpayers for assistance. Seriously, wouldn't Department of Energy be happy to issue grants and low-interest loans to something with "Green Coal" or "Clear Coal" on the first page of their brochure?
the Obama administration's environmental regulations raised operational costs
As the old adage goes:
- If it moves, tax it.
- If it keeps moving, regulate it.
- When it stops moving, subsidize it.
The little scheme involves immense PROFIT to the well-connected cronies, who snatch the struggling businesses between the 2nd and the 3rd step.

Re:Should be 'and' not 'or'
I'm well aware of why we have a 2 party system. It is an easy system to fix, actually, but it will never happen: only allow names under the positions in the ballots. No parties listed and especially no party line votes. If the order of names on ballots need to be randomized to prevent bias then putting party affiliation on the ballot should also be removed, as it leads to bias as well. Know your candidates.

He wants American workers to have first priority of any job
Trump the politician likes to say things like that, but Trump the businessman systematically hired foreigners over Americans for his high-end luxury resort in South Florida. That's where he put his money, not his mouth. We're talking about hundreds of jobs here, and now he claims that Americans wouldn't have wanted seasonal jobs! Did he ask them? We know he didn't, because Americans have been complaining about it.
You Trump supporters let this guy talk his way out of these things too easily. He's about himself, Donald J Trump, and nobody else. Period. Not about you. Not about blue collar workers and lower middle class workers trying to better themselves. Go look at his business record.
He's also called for less fraud, waste, and abuse in government
Wow, that makes Trump only the 21,458,332th US politician to come out with that position! What courage that must have required.

Re:Traditional backup could become irrelevant
mirroring only protects against hardware failure
Wrong. A COW mirror with automatic snapshots protects against many other scenarios, and most (but not all) hardware failures. A COW mirror with frequent scheduled incremental snapshot replication to a remote location protects against just about everything, with no USB drives involved.
Unfortunately, COW mirrors won't win any write performance benchmarks against XFS, as the internal write path tends to be far more complex. But seriously, use the Volvo for 90% of daily errands, and haul out the turbo eggshell only for special occasions.
Insurance tests show cars have become far more fragile — 2007
A 6 mph frontal full collision racked up $5,486 in damage to a Mercedes C class sedan. The Infiniti G35, Acura TL and Lexus IS weren't far behind.
The winner was a 1981 Ford Escort, a sturdy little car that is no longer made. When the institute tested an old model it still had around, the Escort came out of two of the crash tests with zero damage and a fraction of the damage that the best performing new cars had.
In my books, UFS is the 1981 Ford Escort, ZFS is the mythical Volvo, and Btrfs is the Tesla Model S—totally awesome, but I wouldn't touch it myself.
Tesla Report: Two-Thirds of all Tesla Model S Drivetrains Replaced by 60K Miles
Breitbart News reported in October, with Tesla's stock plunging by 10 percent, that Consumer Reports had pulled its "best car ever" rating from Tesla's Model S.
(BTW, I fixed the -10 percent stock "plunge". Happiness is a left-leaning plungeometer. Somehow I don't think that's what they meant.)

All I see is speculation. Where is the actual proof of her doing these things? That website is the same as a anti-vax website imho.

Re:The Opposite
The good thing is that, unlike just 10 years ago, if people care to find information about a candidate it is very easy to do so. Is a candidate being quoted in an attack ad? It's trivial for us, these days, to find the original context of the words and see if that is what the person really said. Has a candidate changed positions on an important issue? Well let's look at the person's voting record, or their past articles or videos or speeches. Does someone have a policy position on issue X? It's very likely - check the website or contact the campaign by email, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, or a hundred other options.
It's all available to us.
It was very easy for the media to really screw a candidate they didn't like. They still have heavy influence, but not quite what it once was. We used to have to rely on The Evening News With Talking Head of the Day for all of our information - now we can still listen to it, but use it as a starting point, not as the final source of information.
We have that option.
Another important thing about the Internet and the sagging power of the media: Money no longer buys elections. Candidates can get their message out to more people, more cheaply, than ever before. Money helps, yes - of that there is zero doubt, but it isn't the sole deciding factor like it used to be.
Look at the Republican primary in New Hampsire: Ted Cruz spent $18 per vote; $1,200 for Bush. Both ended up in a very close tie. Over $130 million was spent on Bush in the first few states, more than several other candidates' entire funding - combined - and he's out of the race.
Bernie Sanders doesn't have a war chest even close to Hillary, but he's giving her some trouble in quite a few states.
So, when Trump gets up there and just keeps screeching, "Cruz is a Liar! Cruz is a Liar!" the people should be doing a few minutes of research to see who the liar really is. When Hillary says, "Oh, they weren't marked classified, that means that nothing illegal happened," then people should spend a few minutes learning about how the classification system works and if she's telling the truth.
But they don't. A combination of anger, disenfranchisement, laziness, apathy, and not caring if your favorite candidate is a corrupt piece of crap as long as you get what you want, means we are wasting what should be a massive revolution in how politics is conducted.
I think that is a tragedy. The capability is there. The people are just asleep.

Re:Personally, I don't care
I didn't see BG say anything that Google didn't also say. I saw that BG's lukewarm "we should start a discussion, this is important" was interpreted as support for the DOJ, and Google's "this is important, we should start a discussion" was interpreted as support for Apple.
But I could have misread their statements. But I didn't see it.
Thanks. Bill's stance is indeed a bit ambiguous. I made the mistake of letting other people interpret his statements for me instead of reading them myself. I would say that he's being a bit cagey - it almost sounds as though he said something because he thought it was expected, and not because he has a strong opinion. This story filled in some of the blanks for me: http://www.breitbart.com/tech/...

FTA
"Death statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) coupled with crime statistics from the FBI show that bicycle and falling deaths far exceed deaths from “mass shootings.”
For example, on September 24 the FBI released a study showing there were 64 incidents of “mass killings” (mass shootings) for the years 2000 through 2013. The gunmen in these incidents took the lives of 418 people."

Re:New York to be underwater... but not by 2020
I believe the date was supposed to be 2015... http://www.breitbart.com/big-j... and if can stomach the video, you get to watch the two 'experts' who made this prediction. Sadly, both somehow are still 'respected'.

The CIA, working in coordination with U.S. troops, bought and destroyed hundreds of nerve agent rockets during the occupation of Iraq.

Clinton in GOP?
video
You mean Hillary Clinton is a Republican? Her own words supporting increasing H1-B visas.story
Or how she helped her husband make millions in speeches from companies wanting to increase H-1B visas. She even asked the Obama administration to remove H-1B caps while she was Secretary of State. So, sure, other than your facts being wrong, you are completely right.

Re: Militant Slashdot
Actually baseball bats are more commonly used in assaults than rifles.
Most firearms homicides are with pistols of some sort, not rifles or shotguns.
http://www.breitbart.com/big-g...
http://blogs.marketwatch.com/c...Further, most firearms deaths are suicides.:
http://www.pewresearch.org/fac...Further, homicides are a poor indicator of how many crimes are committed with different weapons:

If you didn't see any attacks on gamers, you are willingly blinding yourself to the issue.

http://sjwar.blogspot.com/2014...It appears that this tumblr collects information about people being harassed for supporting gamergate.
http://gamergateharassment.tum...And here is a site that explains what happened from the gamergate perspective. Since your post above is so wildly accusatory, it might be good for you to read it as it goes into quite a bit of detail about the ethics issues being brought up, and how it was the gaming journalists themselves that were talking about it being a harassment campaign when they didn't want to defend themselves for the clear ethics violations being brought up.

Re:Terrorism!
Yeah, the US making a big deal about how ISIS gets all those Toyota trucks when it turns out that the US was the one supplying them. Ooops. Let's pretend for an instant that the funding of terrorist groups by the US is strictly limited to pickup trucks. After all, cash and weapons only goes to "moderate" beheaders not terrorist beheaders...

Re:Because that would be unimaginable CENSORSHIP?

Re:This wouldn't be a Slashdot post...
The Israeli spy agencies have a huge reputation in the spy game for skill, guile and ruthlessness.
And war crimes.
A great body of which are fabrications and deceptions.
Goldstone: You Cannot Undo a Slander
Richard Goldstone, the formerly respected South African jurist who disgraced himself by lending his name to a sinister and libelous U.N. report condemning Israel for war crimes, has now issued a very public retraction. “If I had known then what I know now,” he wrote in the Washington Post, “the Goldstone Report would have been a different document.” New information has persuaded him, he said, “that civilians were not intentionally targeted as a matter of policy” by Israel.U.N. Report Rejects Claims of a Massacre of Refugees
The United Nations issued a cautious report today dismissing as unsubstantiated Palestinian claims that 500 people were killed when Israeli forces invaded a refugee camp in the West Bank city of Jenin in April.
As Israel strikes back, fake Gaza images dominate social media
A BBC report has found that many of the photographs used to illustrate the situation in Gaza are from years ago, and even from the conflicts in Iraq and Syria.
CNN Uses Faked Palestinian 'Casualty' Video in Coverage
CNN isn’t the only Old Media outlet that falls for fake Palestinian videos. There is a famous video that caused a contentious court case in France back in 2008. It was a fake video supposedly showing a young Palestinian boy named Muhammad al-Dura being shot at by Israel’s Defense Forces. At first, the video caused international outrage, but in time it was proven to be just Palestinian street theater. No Muhammad al-Dura was ever shot.

Twitter censorship
There are already numerous allegations of Twitter censoring and unverifying the political right or pro-gamergate folks such as Milo Yiannopoulos. Trump is actually a big attention grabber and he is capturing lots of media attention, so censoring him would hurt Twitter more.
A better question may be why they haven't come down harder on terrorist activities on Twitter

Re:Trump just says stuff
"You can't just continue growth for the sake of growth in a world in which we are struggling with climate change and all kinds of environmental problems. All right? You don't necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants or of 18 different pairs of sneakers when children are hungry in this country. ~ Sanders
He's also against Uber because it's "unregulated" echoing voice of Europe; being articulated euro socialist, no surprise there. But since we're talking about regulating the "unregulated" you could throw in the entire West Coast gig economy right along in there too.
He's not smart. In fact, he's a self-addmited communist sympathizer link text having traveled to the nations that espouse it's views directly (USSR, Cuba, Nicaragua)

Ah, but when you agree with the Borg you must not clap as that is 'triggering' The Borg are sensitive to clapping. You must use 'jazz hands':
http://www.breitbart.com/londo...And when a SJW tells you that disagreeing with them is rape, but you are a racist if you oppose traditional Muslim gang rape (Taharrush gamea) of 'infidel' girls, then you must also use jazz hands to show you are one with the SJW Borg Collective:
