Re:Slashdot Subscriptions
http://www.bugmenot.com solves all problems.

Re:Slashdot SubscriptionsLike this?
I don't know if its subscription or not, but entering slashdot.org at BufMeNot brings it up.

You don't always need to sign up...
...on a site asking for registration. Just use bugmenot.com (the Firefox extension is useful). That way, you can limit what your password is used for (if you only use one password) and avoid having to memorize 50 different passwords (if, for security reasons, you use different passwords at different sites).

Re:Possibilities.Ugh, the lame thing about experts-exchange.com is that Google has a lot of their pages highly ranked, and yet when you land on their page you have to "Sign up to see the solution!"
So, in the spirit of making that site almost as useful as the open Google groups, here's some no-hassle username/passwords to bypass it.

Re:Wow, that is hilarious!
There's a login for this site available on bugmenot. However, I can't guarantee that it works because clicking on the login button does nothing so I couldn't even get to the login page to try it myself.
Maybe the broken login button is all part of a diabolical plan to make people subscribe to the magazine every time they want to read an article online, even if they're already subscribers. -
Re:NYT JokesUnlike the 1-2-3-profit meme, the "reg req'd" meme has longer legs because "information wants to be free/open".
Here are few ways that dirty pinko commie subversives can bypass the NYTimes registration:
- The old Majcher Login Generator
- BugMeNot
- By appending "?partner=GOOGLE" (w/o quotes) to the NYTimes URL, like this: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/31/technology/31sp
a m.html?partner=ANYTHINGHERE

Bah! Stupid me, not checking the results of middle-clicking....
Heh. Was setting up a new Linux recruit with Macromedia Flash and I guess the URL was still hanging around in my cut buffer.
The real link is at the Washington Post. (You may have to log in to see the story, but just use BugMeNot to find a free login.

two striking things...
First, the speed at which the exploit was translated from advisory to a malicious worm.. Second, this is one of the few old-school "do as much damage as you can" worms. At least it makes a change from the monotony of the mass mailing attachment exploit variety of viruses..Not a welcome change for the people who got hit by it of course
:(By the way, in case you get prompted for registration and your principles don't allow you to give out your email address, use Bugme Not to find a login. Click here

Re:annoying registration
Why register? BugMeNot is a repository of public accounts for annoying sites that require registration for no apparent reason. The BugMeNot bookmarklet tells me that the login is ('fred', 'eatme'), but I'm pretty sure it is from the Washington Post's old system. If anybody just wasted the time to register a throw-away username now, a contribution to BugMeNot would be appreciated.

What?
Maybe it's because it's 4AM, but I don't understand that summary at all. Seems to jump from one topic to another mid-thought...
Maybe it's just the alcohol and the thought of first post, though.
