I attended the first two...... and I can't recommend them highly enough. Not only were the speakers informative, but the opportunities to network were sensational.
I will insist that my boss sends me again this year, and I'm sure I will report that it was once again a must-attend event.

Considering that Kazaa does very little advertising, a large amount of this number probably represents people who have "sampled" the software at friend houses etc. and then got the program themselves.
Of course the same thing also happens with people that sample music before buing it.

Value-addedBecause of it's extreme popularity, I am surprised they have not attempted to provide more "value-added" services with the program. They have the attention of a lot of people when their program runs. This is a huge potential audience for further offerings and helps distance them to the whole "it is just for pirate music!" crap.

If Some Company wants to track my dealings with them that is ok. When they share info they effectively spy on me more deeply than they are entitled to as far as I'm concerned, and that goes double for the government.

New Thinkingruns on all modern computer platforms, requires no additional software to be downloaded or installed, has a graphical user interface, and was not written using java.
I think that web based interfaces are severly underrated in their potential because of the reason mentioned. I love the new thinking being employed throughout this project.

Are there any programs that allow processes to be "locked on"? It would be useful to restrict attempts to kill certain processes, to people that can provide the root password.
There are probably heaps of this kind of thing, and another layer of security is always welcome.

Six degreesIn the labor market, the problem is to match hiring managers with qualified workers. When you need something fixed, the problem is to match your dented fender or stopped-up toilet with the appropriate repair person.
These problems have already been solved in several formats. Think MP3. Someone wants a track, and they are connected with someone who has that track.
One format is websites. This is especially true for topics such as employment and dating where an "offerer" is connected with the "needer".
With my previous example of MP3s there the possibility of having a P2P referer network. Each person posts their "resume" of talents / interests, and then is refered through their friends lists to friends of friends searching for that interest. Six degrees of seperation stuff that is backed by the trust you have in your group of friends.
When I started this post it was just an unusual thought, but the more I think about it, the more logical this seems. I reserve all rights to this idea

Nope, I wont be. The purple-white gradient with white text is rather painful on the eyes. After all the flak this site cops for the fugly, motherboard green layout of the main page this is not an improvement.
Nice concept, but badly executed in my opinion. Let's hope it gets touched up a fraction.

Won't you come and sing with me.. computer games are more effective learning tools because they sustain interest and attention in settings where people are normally bored.
I find it strange that every kid gets taught letters and numbers by using learning games, yet more advanced learning ignores this technique.
I know that there are games that teach you to program (topcoder.com is an example), but the potential in all areas of training isn't used. Maybe we will see a trend towards learning games in the future.

Making the connectionYet more mobile devices that provide the hardware but can't see the posibilities of software features. Almost every current model mobile phone and gradually more PDAs are getting the combination of a camera and wireless / infrared connectivity. Why not spend a little extra time programming and create a webcam feature?
No extra hardware increases the value to the user without the cost of production. What's the hold up?

Next GenIt seems to me that the amount of storage has now developed into overkill for music files. I would love to see companies incorporate colour screens that could provide the ability for video to be displayed since the storage is already there.
Of course with colour screen cell phones taking off the prices should drop to the point that this will be a natural progression in the next generation of players. I'm backing that may be a showpiece at the next macworld.

Ewww PCLet's hope we're not about to enter an era of political correctness in video games. Personally I do not want to have to make a video game selection where the only main characters are a butch girl or a "fashion-concious" man.
Getting things politically correct is all nice and good, but games are meant to be fantasy. For the average person it is a fantasy to be a huge muscle bound superhero or a sexy woman that can domainate.

It started out fairly innocent. My brother offered to let me play one night on his. "Just a few games..." he used to say. It's like crack, and I was hooked. I'm now 22 and it has consumed my life. I have tried quitting cold turkey, but it was like the sky was falling and not fitting into place.
If they would only go one generation without it I might have a chance.

A feq questions firstThe server is roasted but it seems like having the ability to buy "fuel pellets" would be a huge advance for the automotive industry. I know a few youngens that regularly run out of fuel, so a pellet or two in the glovebox would be sensational.

SecurityWhat I have wanted for ages now is a "business level" IM service that is available for free. I hate the idea that my IMs are free to read by anyone with the inclination, and I don't see why more companies don't encrypt it. Faxes around my office are usually printed computer documents that perhaps have a hand written signature. This fits beautifully into the sending slot. Why would anyone want to stand there holding the thing still while they press a button / click a mouse. No way.

I give it 50 posts before.....The team is designing devices that can work out the level of attention a person is paying to their PC and the importance that each message received may have for them.
This could have implications for not only email but the entire way we use our computers. What if the operating system delivered appropiate messages about the status of the network based on the sysadmins attention and the piority of the message?
Web pages that could deliver shorter copy if the user is in a hurry/inattentive and longer copy if they are paying attention?
This is only the beginning.

Avoiding these situationsIt seems to me one of the best ways to avoid the RIAA is to pretend you are part of the group they do not want to bring to court. They would be rather silly investigating the username of daisy_girl_10 in case it was a young girl, because of the bad publicity for themselves and the law itself. Besides there ae plenty of other "adult" sounding names to bother.
