Re:More science fraud.
"Lesbians, for example, like to use the phrase 'testosterone poisoning' about men as a way of convincing women who have relationships with men to have sex with another woman."
First, lesbians don't want to have sex with straight women any more than I want to have sex with you. I am a man who likes to have sex with gay men. Though even if you are a closet case... um I'm on a drama free diet. However George Takei might be interested... at least if you play basketball. http://www.devilducky.com/media/58118/
Second, as a general rule lesbians have no problem with men who are neither sexist bastards nor think that lesbians 'just need a good man' to convince them to be straight. I can say that with pretty good certainty because I work two days a week as a physician at a historically queer focused women's health clinic. So I think that hostility you are feeling has more to do with the fact that you are a mysogynist prick rather than the fact that you have a prick. -
A Very Convenient Truth
Sarah Silverman has already covered this angle of global warming. Here's the promo for her hard hitting documentary on the subject.

Penis Power vs. Vagina Power
Funny you should post this story about the educational value of the web today. I just watched a video of an Atlanta public access TV show in which the woman gives a very insightful explanation of the evils of men who are good in bed. Before online video, only the good folks of Atlanta would be able to enjoy this material. Today, you can all watch and learn by clicking this link.
Watch the video before modding me down, guys. I think you'll find it very Informative and perhaps even Insightful.

Big Parents in the Sky
Meh. Just an extension of childhood into adulthood.
That, and maybe Stars are actually sentient beings.
So naturally we small created matter beings believe in the Source.
After all, we are only made out of meat.
It is not the stars the create light, but the Power of Light that creates the stars... -
For those who don't know the reference
There's been several comments related to pusher/shover robots, the terrible secret of space, and "pak chooie unf". For those who don't know what these refer to, see the ICQ prank that started it and the flash animation/song inspired by it.

Re:There is nothing as unusual...
You're right, we can't trust sci-fi to give us all the answers. Instead, watch this documentary.

It's funny how numbers seem to be everything to everyone. Especially those strongly against or for the war, since they just wonn't shut up about them.
Here is a fun fact for you, more people in the US military die each year in auto and motorcycle accidents at home station than die in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan combined during the same time period. Here is another fun fact to go along with it. They also tend to kill family members or friends when they do it. Last time I checked not too many kids and spouses getting blown up by IED over inb Iraq.
Perspective + numbers are very important. One without the other is pretty much pointless.

Re:Well duh
What any of that has to do with a caption typo, I have no idea. I won't even get into the level of your world view.
It has everything to do with it. The grandparent makes the point that there is a concerted effort to give out misinformation in todays media. And if you are in any doubt on whether Fox does this, watch Outfoxed. trailer on offical site.
In this documentary you will learn of the infamous daily fox memos. Each day they were told what to cover and what not to cover. They were told specific word sequences to use for things. For example, using "targetted killing" instead of "assasination". It was no accident that "flip flop" was on the tip of everyones tounges in late 2004.
Fox is a disinformation network. Saddam, terror, Saddam, terror, Saddam, terror. If you repeat the mantra enough, people believe you.

Top Irish Scientists
Maybe these guys are related to the scientists that lived in Ireland before Michael McCloud invented a new type of beverage in his basement.

No, but fun to imagine
If you haven't seen the iTalk spec commercial for by award winning filmmaker Christopher DeSantis (design by Gregory DeSantis) you should check it out. In past speculative posts on
/., it seems that the biggest reason "Apple will never do this" is that "the people" don't want a device like this. With the success of the iPod, I don't see how people *wouldn't* want a device like this. Millions of people want an iPod... I'd guess that most of those people are also cell phone users. Why wouldn't I want one device that does both assuming that Apple does it right?
I think it would be a huge success should Apple decide to build an iTalk that is a high quality phone, maintains everything we expect in an iPod, has decent battery life, and has the popular Apple style. I haven't had a decent cell phone in years. I find most of today's phones too small, lots of plastic and very lightweight. Count me in the camp that hopes they build one at some point. -

no, no, I think he was looking for this. Must have been an add for it in the economist.
btw, is anyone suprised that the Japanese are building robots for this purpose? I mean, what aren't the Japanese building robots for? -

Gates' good qualitiesMakes me think fondly of Bill Gates. I mean sure his practices have caused a lot of grief
... but he has some good qualities ... like, for example, he is not Steve JobsWell, I suppose you could consider it a merit that you at least don't have to wonder whether you'll be getting the good Bill Gates or the Evil Bill Gates.... there's only the Evil Bill Gates.
More seriously, Bill is a lot more tolerant of personal criticism. Not that doesn't loathe it like any sane human, but he at least can remain polite and smiling when someone takes a jab at him and his products.

Dear lord, those sucked
I know this may come across as flame bate, but damn, some of those were downright painful to watch.
I don't really have a problem with Red Vs. Blue. Those guys can be fairly funny. But man, I found myself actually felling embarrassed for some of the directors (?) of those machinema flicks.
They weren't good, and they weren't bad enough to be funny. They were just kind of, umm, "uncomfortable" bad.
Now, for good machinema, watch Summoner Geeks -
