They could use some robustifying and leadershippin
I think they should robustify their standing in the expo space by means of incentiments and good leadershipping before going for an embiggenment like this. I mean, wouldn't it be better to for example, flexitate the visitor experience instead of spending money doubling the space?
They should keep in mind that if you're not onboard with quality excellence, you're underboard. But really, why do I even bother to try moralify these people?

Re:Tosser... (said the Tosser)
Windows has had serious architectural and procedural flaws for over a decade now, which Microsoft is fully aware of, yet has done very little to address, and it's "fucked up zealotry, morality and ideology" to hope that people will wise up and switch?
Switch? No. Hoping they get pwn3d however might get you into the zealotry camp.
If the face of OSS people is "ha ha, sux0r, you got r0bb3d ya lus3r n00b", people are not going to have a very positive impression of the kinds of people who are Linux proponents. And, they're going to be less likely to listen to any of the rational arguments about why Windows might not be all that it's cracked up to be.
I call to your attention yesterday's Dilbert Cartoon to bolster my point. =)

It is time
You've obviously reached that point in your career, and you can't avoid it anymore. You must go into management. This is not as hard nor as painful as some would suggest. There is a useful, illustrated guide to becoming a manager. Just follow the example of the hero of the strip. You might even look into finding a hair stylist who can give you that new look (assuming you still have hair at your age). Watch out for engineers with strange ties, and never hire a consultant who looks like a dog. You'll do fine! See you on the golf links.

Re:facial hair
Having never been in a women's service station bathroom, particularly not one in Sweden, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Can you elaborate?
Men's bathrooms are notoriously much messier/less nice to be in compared to women's, appearently the world over. Ir's not uncommon for a women's bathroom to have couches and flowers, while the men's bathroom is a closet with a urine-covered walls. Most of the time, the difference isn't always that bad, but almost always men's bathrooms are smaller, messier, and lack the ammenities that the women's does. Why is that? Women of course like to say it's because we're smarter, but it's a part of a larger sociological phenomenom Dilbert calls "The Power of Low Standands". Basically, people with higher standards of cleaniness (usually women) will always be cleaning up after people with lower standards of cleaniness (usually men). I'm assuming this feminist was arguing that women tending to have higher standards is because of biology, but I see socialization. The image of women as clean freaks is all over (from bathrooms to commercials comparing woman's way of freshening up (shower) to men's (flip shirt inside out)) and that image gets into our subconscious. This all goes back into the nature vs nurture debate, which we can never really prove one way or the other. -

Re: a Tech Mgr or Mgr of Tech??
I came out of business school from marketing (though most of my best marketing knowledge I learned through books), but also am a programmer (wrote most of our original code), graphic designer (owned a design co) and was CTO for another Internet company.

Just in the super-unlikely case that you haven't actually ever worked on commercial software, I thought I'd give you the link that best describes the real world:
http://www.dilbert.com/comics/dilbert/archive/inde x.html
There's a good reason geeks who love code development do so much of it for free. In general, I'd say that OSS projects are better run and executed than commercial projects. They just aren't as well funded :-) -

Re:*sigh*
This idea of specialized training in programming had got to go. If they know how to program and read standards, that's all they need to know in order to grasp the entire concept.
I wouldn't say that this is necessarily the way for a "continuing education" course to be taught. Fundamentals can take a year or two to teach. The submitter didn't give a whole lot of context, but I'm guessing this is perhaps a course at a community college (low cost, outsider putting materials together, etc.)
Since it must be in Java appropriate topics might include:
- EJB3/ORM
- The MVC Pattern
- Component based frameworks (e.g. JSF)
- AOP, IoC (i.e. Spring or Seam or some such), although its not just a web programming topic, you can't avoid it.
While we're on the subject of JSF, I should plug Facelets, which vastly simplifies the view side of things.
Your biggest concern will be having enough time for the students to get their head around whatever framework you do choose. Using Java for a small application is like sandblasting a soup cracker (to quote the bard). You could really spend a whole course on one part of the MVC.

Fake mission statement detector?
I wonder if this program, with a different set of algorithms, would be able to detect whether a coporate mission statement was created using the Dilbert Mission Statement Generator. (Beware; Dilbert.com is pop-up hell.)
