Re:In other words...
Bush didn't need any help. It was overwhelming passed by Congress, all he had to do was ask for it and sign it.
These are the 98 U.S. senators for voted in favor of the US Patriot Act of 2001 (Senator Landrieu (D-LA) did not vote) Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin was the only senator who voted against the Patriot Act on October 24, of 2001.
http://educate-yourself.org/cn...
Very few of the Democrats in the Senate learned their lesson, and so voted to reauthorize it by close to the same numbers in 2006, and Obama signed off on at least one more renewal (I've lost track).
The list of two-time Yeas includes Hillary Cllnton, Chris Dodd, Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer, Joe Biden, John Kerry, Rockefeller, Sarbane, both Nelsons, Diane Feinstein, Max Baucus, Joe Lieberman,
...The House was a tad better as far as Dems voting Nay, it passed the House 357-66 in 2001 and 280-138 in 2006.

Another dumb fuck
Explain how the crisis's actor's little finger suddenly grow back in the hospital?

This photo is even better
The amputee crisis actor's little finger was clearly already gone at the scene, but the fake victim at the hospital still had his little finger.

Of course it's staged

Re:Same old trickery
Parent did NOT deserve 'Troll'. The study mentioned in TA is controversial. People are moderating with their balls not their brains, and their balls shrivel up when anyone suggests there may not be some dire emergency at Fukushima related to killer radiation. But even so,
We've seen this hoax before, why am I not surprised there are people still pushing it? The only difference with this one is how poorly written it is. Cancer rates are actually lower than expected/normal around Fukushima.
Calling it a 'hoax' is going way too far, you should calm down too. It's still early to make definitive statements about cancers, but there is certainly no 'spike'. One of the main reasons the government took the (courageous) position that the thyroid abnormalities were unlikely to be associated with the disaster was, abnormal nodules were detected 'too soon' after the disaster when screening began, and their own health professionals assured them that these conditions take years to develop and were more likely the result of some pre-existing condition. And the last in-depth study was some 10 years prior, so when Fukushima occurred there was a lack of recent baseline. A cause for concern surely but not
The same old deception. Use data from ultrsensitive tests that detect more pre-cancerous cells than what is found under normal testing, then claim that is an increase. But when these same tests are performed on control groups anywhere, they find similar increases in detection of pre-cancerous cells. A simple read of these claims show they completely lack any reasonable baseline or control group methods. Add it to the list of deceptions that keep being debunked but keep showing up.
I'm upset at Fukushima disinfo too, but what can you do about it, especially when the AP is clearly in the market for scare stories, and the usual journalistic burden of proof and balance that applies in other things is relaxed. If your own child was given ultrasound and a 'nodule' showed up, you would not be subject to a hysterical reaction. The doctor would assure you that it should be monitored, but they do form and dissolve naturally. You'd be given nutritional supplements. Yet researchers feel free to insinuate a cause when it suits them. And even if they don't, journalists feel free to insinuate on their behalf by offering side-stories that make a 'connection'. To the slashdotter who ejaculated
It's their fault for not being born in the great state of AMERIKA!
and was also modded Troll... you're not far off the mark. The United States and others have added potassium iodide (for iodine) to its table salt for some 80 years now to counter endemic Goitre. Traditionally Japan has not iodized its salt because the national diet has been heavy with seaweed, a natural source, and there were were concerns that fortified salt plus seaweed might supply an over-abundance of iodine, which is also harmful. Perhaps some Japanese children have been starting to prefer Western diets and should, as are other rural populations, consider the benefits of iodization.

Re:Oh, the data!
Oh, the irony: From the party that brought us the PATRIOT act.
Oh, the data!
Here's the roll-call vote for the Patriot act.
tl;dr: Democrats: 145 yea, 62 Nay (with 4 abstentions).
I've been thinking of changing my party affiliation recently (and no, not making this up).
Which party do you recommend? I'd like to see if your party votes in the interests of the republic. Do you know any accomplishments that you think are noteworthy? Excluding health care, since everyone already knows about that.
Even attempted accomplishments would be a good indicator of intent, even if they came to naught. I want to throw my weight and online debating skills behind an organization I can believe in.
Who can you recommend?

Re:Government is too powerful
We need to strip government of unneeded power and put ourselves back into proper Constitutional governance. The problem is, progressives need the power of the Police State to enforce their progressive policies. But they are the first ones that complain about the police state.
First of all, don't conflate the Democrats with progressives, we don't have a progressive party in the US. Second, US conservatives are just as (or more) authoritarian as it's so-called liberals. Don't get me wrong, I'm no longer a fan of Obama but Romney would have been no better. Second, look at all the votes for the Patriot Act in 2001 and 2006: the overwhelming majority of nay votes (and those abstaining) were Democrats. Third, who is passing all the laws requiring women to be vaginally probed before they can get an abortion? Who wants to force their religious values on others? Etc... The Republicans want just as big of a police state as the Democrats, they only have a couple of minor differences on what to enforce. The NSA has been with us for a long time, through multiple power shifts and no one has reigned it in.
In summary. The US does not have a party that is "left of center." Democrats suck. Republicans suck more.

Re:Slashleft
I hope most US slashdotters are not too rankled by this reality because this is what they voted for. Bush and Nixon, two presidents modern leftists love to vilify, HAVE NOTHING on the monster currently in office...NOTHING.
Before you try to pin this on the left, take a look at who voted for the Patriot Act:
2001:
Senate: 98 voted for the act, a single democrat voted against
House: 357 voted for the act, 66 voted against (62 democrats, 3 republicans)
2006: Patriot act renewal
Senate: 89 voted for the act, 10 against (9 democrats, 0 republicans)
House: 280 voted for the act, 138 against (124 democrat, 13 republican)
2011: Patriot act renewal
Senate: 72 Yes, 23 against (18 democrat, 4 republican)
House: 275 Yes, 144 no (117 democrat, 27 republican)If the leftist monster in the whitehouse is solely responsible for this, then why didn't our republican saviors in Congress do anything to stop it, not even back before Obama was even in office?

Rand Simberg is a clown
Simberg is best known for a fabricated "Reuters" article allegedly from 1945 which, unbelievably, was taken seriously and cited by both Condoleeza Rice and Donald Rumsfeld. Basically, it was a lame satire about the Iraqi resistance which (falsely) claimed that similar things had happened in Germany after WWII.

Re:What about friending HR?
Yeah that's kinda funny. Well no, might want to look at Obama in the last year, since he's gutted the constitution more than Bush did in 8 years.

Not only are you stupid for assuming he blamed Bush, you totally overlooked the fact that PATRIOT passed with veto proof majority in both houses. Not only are you stupid, but whoever modded you up is also stupid. So please, take George Bush's cock out of your mouth *before* you fire off a post. Please.

Re:more laws
Can you show me some examples where driving is explicitly defined as a privilege? I have not been able to find it, although on a cursory search, I have found instances where individuals have sued their state and won based on the notion of a right to travel (caution: dubious validity of this article). Another counter-example: the US Constitution defines voting as a right, but certain states revoke this right for convicted felons. Does this make voting a privilege too?

The problem I have though is that not one of these comments even talks about what I was saying, just a bad figure in it. Does it really matter if we have 2X the number of people or 1000X the number of people? Re:hmmm targeted advertising
You realize the insurance companies are making about a hundred bucks a year per subscriber, right?
If you are trying to prove a point, the first step is choosing a neutral source not "politics and culture from a Catholic perspective". Without a valid source you prove nothing. Otherwise I can "prove" that Jews were to blame for 9/11 ( http://encyclopediadramatica.com/JEWS_DID_WTC ) (link is NSFW really), the holocaust didn't happen ( http://www.666ismoney.com/HolocaustAds.html ), oh and the "contrails" you see in the sky are really chemicals ( http://educate-yourself.org/ct/ ).
Whenever some site has an agenda, it usually isn't a valid source. -

Re:Do you follow the news at all
There are lots of other examples, and you DARE to say that incitement to hatred should not be a crime.
In most cases, they require a martyr to actually go beyond the belief stage. Just look at the internet, you can find statements to back up any belief, yet its only information. Look at the development of religions, especially Christianity, the more it was persecuted, the larger it grew and the more rapidly while today it isn't in a rapid phase of growth due to increased religious tolerance. Have you not heard of the Streisand effect? Basically the more you try to censor "hate" speech the further and more radical it gets. You only encourage "hate" speech by attempting to stop it. For example, on the internet you can find all sorts of crazy theries such as that contrails in the sky are actually mind altering chemicals ( http://educate-yourself.org/ct/ ) that Paul McCartney really died in the '60s ( http://digilander.libero.it/jamespaul/fc1.html ) and other more absurd conspiracy theories. However, they get lost in the sea of information that is the internet. The same thing happens with "hate" speech when it is not criminalized.
That is EXACTLY the same as saying that offering a contract on someones life should not be a crime because it is only words.
If it was a legal contract, the person was actually hired and really was going to commit murder, it is not a free speech violation to apprehend them. Signing the contract and agreeing to go through with it similarly is not a free speech violation if you get caught.

Re:Ummm yeah right
Why do I keep feeding the troll?
http://educate-yourself.org/cn/collapseofWTCeyewitnessreportsexplosions07feb05.shtml -- under the heading "Opportunities for tempering" indicates some interesting opportunities and frankly, anyone wearing a hard hat and coveralls would likely not have been questioned.
And while reading there, you can find links to an interesting bit about the seismic sensors at local colleges that mark the time of seismic tremors at "just before the fall of the buildings" and almost nothing by comparison during the time of the impact of the building hitting the earth.
And who is saying "The Government" did this? Not me. In my view, someone in the government must have been involved, but to say "the government" certainly makes it sound like everyone knew which was clearly not the case... and some players who were not in the government knew what was going on as well.
And frankly, it was not my imagination, nor that of many others who heard and saw various news media on TV and radio announce that the WTC7 was going to br brought down moments before it happened. Ostensibly, this announcement was explaining that this demolition was to be planned at a later date before "fate" stepped in to make it happen sooner. But are you really going to suggest that the NIST report is more reliable than data collected at the University of Columbia?
You seem to be really animated when it comes to denying the validity of certain sources of information and simply denying the testimony and reports of countless witnesses at the site many of which are considered to be highly reliable such as police and fire crew. It's pretty clear that your level of faith in the government's [NIST's] information is unshakeable and that you will not allow anything into your mind that might contradict what you are being told. Christians are the the same way when it comes to any evidence that questions their faith as well. But I have to wonder how much conflicting evidence has to be brought to your attention before you see the possibility that your faith is what is broken, and not that of those who are willing to question what we are being told.

Quackbusters busted.Quackwatch has a good section on how pseudoscience does not make progress, unlike real science.
Quackwatch is a fraudulent organization cobbled together by the drug industry in an attempt to undermine alternative medicine.
The leading speakers of Quackwatch, Stephen Barrett in particular, are liars and losers who are almost certainly psychopathic with regard to their total lack of shame when their lies are exposed. Luckily, the legal system is smarter than the average internet reader. Stephen Barrett does a good job of losing the court cases he brings to court against alternative practitioners. The Quackbuster representatives were its founder Stephen Barrett and Ronald Gots, the founder of the Quackbuster branch, Environmental Sensitivities Research Institute. Both men are also directors of the American Council on Science and Health, another branch of Quackbusters. Their presentations were later published in the prestigious International Journal of Toxicology (vol. 18, no.6, 1999). The debate focused on whether chemical sensitivity is a psychological or a biological condition. In front of an audience of several hundred people, and aware that the entire debate was being video- and audio-taped, Gots stated that prestigious university-affiliated authors of a (named) main-stream peer-reviewed journal had recently provided incontrovertible proof, on the basis of rigorous scientific study and experiment, that chemical sensitivity was a psychological condition.
Gots [of Quackwatch] was followed by Johns Hopkins' speaker Albert Donnay who informed the audience that this prestigious study was fictitious. The authors were fictitious, too. Even the journal was fiction. A gasp went through the audience. Amazingly, Gots made no attempt to answer. Even more astounding was the body language of both Gots and Barrett. While the audience was audibly shocked and murmurs were going through the crowd, those two Quackbusters leaned back in their chairs, fiddled with their pens in the bored and relaxed manner of total self-assurance awaiting the next item on the agenda.
Stephen Barrett, although claiming to be a retired Psychiatrist, was never able to become "Board Certified." He failed his test. Also, Barrett gave up his MD license in 1993. His employment record shows he NEVER was able to hold a full-time job - and his claim to "Psychiatric fame" was his part-time (4 to 8 hours a week) employment at a Pennsylvania Mental Hospital - from 1978 through 1993. From 1976 through 1978 he could not get a paying job. He also claims to be a legal expert, though he has never had any legal training.
Bobbie Baratz, the current president of the NCAHF, was terminated from his former position at a Boston area medical center after a physical altercation with a 72 year old woman. He now operates a hair removal business. He also operates the NCAHF out of that same hair removal location.

Re:The Price of Security
Put another way; is there a difference to victems, whether it is a disorganized criminal who violates their rights, or an organized government that imposes its will?
Police have accidentally killed more people this year -- a lot more, than the WTC disaster. Over 40,000 no-knock raids using SWAT teams -- quadruple from times past. Much of this is collateral damage over the war on drugs.
If every house had a camera that they kept themselves, and could offer up (on their own free will) to help the police in criminal matters, I think that would be a much better "security" measure. We the citizen shouldn't be offering up anything, when we have a government that covers up corruption with secrecy -- which is usually what happens when you give the Government too much power without oversight.
Crime would go down with prosperity and the raising of the minimum wage (as it has in the past). It would also go down, if we started replacing all these drug laws with drug treatment. It's hard to justify putting someone away for 20 years, when our own government has been involved in much of the drug trafficking. Why do we continue to pretend that this is a fight against "evil" rather than a very profitable enterprise, that keeps privatized prisons brimming with customers, states with cheap labor, and enforces a police state that empowers the same Politicians who benefit from the criminalization. .... a good case in point; Sun Myoung Moon -- if you look at his history, is closely associated with the Yajuzai and money laundering. His churches move the money, into things like the Washington Times; http://educate-yourself.org/cn/sunmyongmoon11part0 1oct98.shtml . To the tune of $1 Billion, and as much as $2.5 Billion to other Conservative groups in support of political influence, while still maintaining a Green Card, and still a loyalist to North Korea (can you say; Subversion?) He as well has huge money in Neal Bush's educational software company (see the WayneMadsenReport.com -- also includes Russian Mafia money). Mega millions have supported Jeb Bush, and other Republicans as well.
So the government gets more corrupt, as those who do favors for monied interests (like Moon, the Saudis, anybody else who wants to use a charity to funnel to Abramoff), while more police power and executive privilege are used to fight competition to these monied entities under the cover of "security interests." So, all those cameras run by the State, didn't seem to capture more than 5 frames of video of a plane crashing into the Pentagon, while somehow, they are able to track license plates of peace activists from two miles up in the sky.
For keeping me safe -- keep the government out of my privacy. I'd rather the uncertainty of the odd crazy person, rather than the certainty of the overbearing government. Besides, they will probably be giving crazed killers work releases as mercenaries, or "interrogators" in the future -- if our government isn't already.
I'm not trying to flame bait -- there is plenty of evidence to back up everything I've said. Look at BCCI investigation by the Senate, or current headlines. The issue of "trusting the state" is central to the "security vs. Liberty" arguement. We've given up Liberty, and I feel less and less secure. -
Cure for AIDS, cancer discovered in 1990?
From http://educate-yourself.org/be/: In the Fall of 1990, two medical researchers, Drs.William Lyman and Steven Kaali, working at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City made an important discovery. They found that they could inactivate the HIV virus by applying a low voltage direct current electrical potential with an extremely small current flow to AIDS infected blood in a test tube. Initially, they discovered this in the lab by inserting two platinum electrodes into a glass tube filled with HIV-1 (type 1) infected blood. They applied a direct current to the electrodes and found that a current flow in the range of 50-100 microamperes (uA) produced the most effective results. Practically all of the HIV viral particles were adversely affected while normal blood cells remained unharmed. The viral particles were not directly destroyed by the electric current, but rather the outer protein coating of the virus was affected in such a way as to prevent the virus from producing reverse transcriptase, a necessary enzyme needed by the virus to invade human cells. Reverse transcriptase allows the virus to enter a human T cell line (called CEM-SS) and commandeer the DNA reproduction machinery. After using the host cell to reproduce itself into thousands of new virii, the swollen host cell (now called syncytia or giant cell) will burst and spew the contents into the bloodstream or lymph system. This is how the virus spreads, but lacking reverse transcriptase, the HIV virus can't invade the host cell and it becomes vulnerable to destruction by the body's immune system. (The details of this experiment can be read from Kaali's patent application.) I advice everyone to watch the following video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-33839483

used, perhaps 1/5th the current usage rate.

Re:Imagine..
I had a similar experience during my first-time visit to Paris, I later realized it must have been due to having played Midtown Madness 3 where one of the locales is the city of Paris, not very accurately modeled mind you, though the roads along the Seine were fairly accurately depicted in the game.
Also, I found myself recognizing my surroundings in Dublin, Ireland. as soon as I saw the "spike" I realized where from: Remember that slashdot article from about a year ago where you could control a set of skylights over Dublin using a 3D-model of the area where the lights were set up?
Well, my point being: I can't recall ever recognizing my surroundings from 2D-maps. It seems 3D representations are easier to learn and remember. And so, there *is* a point to what google is doing. -
Re:Good summary.
and you are a 40-something corporate wage slave
.. who knows the harsh realities of the rEAL wORLD .. right?
wrong ..
it is all corporations that are fundamentally evil ..
100-150 years ago the corporations had virtually no power to speak of .. through steady political influence and legal influence .. they have achieve an insurmountable advantage over the individuals of the world ..
they almost lost in the late sixties early seventies .. but they have made a calculated and spectacular comeback ..
http://www.mediatransparency.org/story.php?storyID =21
and so we will all one day work for The Corp .. like it or not .. or be killed .. mark of the beast and all ..
The Corp and it owners has achieved a Win Win position ..
the power and advantage of the group .. as well as limited social and legal liability ..
Were as the individual has been given a Lose Lose situation ..
the disadvantage of having to do everything for themselves .. why do you think animals become social int the first place .. as well as full social and legal liability .. and in the course of time .. a no win situation ..
an all but inevitable fate .. people that will accept this reality .. are asking for .. and some would say even deserve their fate .. to live their life in service to The Corp and it's owners ..
http://educate-yourself.org/cn/silentweaponsquietw arsmay79.shtml
total slavery .. as long as it's not called slavery and it does not look like slavery .. as long as there is no discrimination .. almost everyone is included .. except for the oWNERS (rulers) .. as long as i get a wage to pay for my keep .. i can believe .. can call my self free ..
after all .. deep down we all know how much it would really cost us .. to be a true individuals .. the corporate ace in the hole .. it's much easier to submit ..
a bRAVE nEW wORLD .. -
