Re:The most widespread form of child abuse
Are they really serious about cutting out access to sites promoting or depicting child abuse? If so, I look forward to them blocking all sites which aid or abet or encourage the religious indoctrination of children. They're all malevolent, and far more prevalent than any other form of abuse.
TheAmazingAtheist, please keep your shit on Youtube where it belongs. Someone telling children something you happen to disbelief doesn't make said action abuse; and even if it were, it certainly isn't comparable to sexual abuse. And it takes an outright delusional nut to believe that all, most, or even any significant percentage fraction of people who preach religion do this out of malevolence.
How the Hell does an insane conspiracy theory with some really fucked up values get modded "Insightful"? And why is it that fanatical atheists can't resist preaching in every single story? Honestly, these people seem more like a cult every day - and not one of those New Age happy hippy ones, but a good old-fashioned "everyone but us is stupid or evil!!!" -style ones.
I wonder how long it'll take before some of these morons decide to start blowing up churches? I mean, if you really believe that religion is child abuse, then it would logically be the right and smart thing to do, right? Unless, of course, you're just talking shit online to make yourself look cool and get modded up.
Cretin.
Mods: go right ahead and mod me down. I'm sick and tired of every discussion turning into a religious flamewar. If it's not armchair theologists, it's the Rational Response Squad (lol) hangers-on. Fuck them both.

Re:Twitter, Facebook, MySpacesheezyArt?!?
Granted, DevArt has gone way downhill (and it wasn't that high uphill to begin with), but let's be brutally honest - it's not often that Encyclopedia Dramatica gets it right without having to resort to exaggeration or hyperbole, but their article on SheezyArt is scarily accurate.
It was built as a shameless ripoff of DevArt - numerous people diff'ed the HTML and CSS and found huge swathes blatantly stolen. Even now, it still is largely a carbon copy of DA.
It was built by furries who were pissed that DA started removing hardcore furry porn (I shivered at that phrase). Now it's a fairly even mix between "badly drawn anime doodles" and said furry porn.
Ye gods, there are few things that should be "nuked from orbit", but sheezyArt is one of them.

Re:Mod up (even more)
The problem is that a whole lot of people with no fucking lives have decided to make policing Wikipedia their life's devotion. To say it's biased is an understatement, but Encyclopedia Dramatica's "bureaucratic fuck" article makes some points. The rules work until you get Rules Nazis. Then you end up in a neverending arms race to define exactly what the Rules Nazis can and cannot do while they tirelessly work to be bureaucratic fucks, which destroys the entire spirit of what was supposed to be going on.

Re:Asperger's syndrome
I think all of us should leave our hugboxes for a few minutes and read this
http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Aspierations
Yes it's mean spirited but it's also satire. And like most satire it contains a kernel of truth. Ok, it doesn't have an entry specifically for this situation. I'll just knock one up
Real life: Governments keep secrets
Aspieration :
... and they will therefore be totally understanding (and not try ship you to a hellish prison for decades) if you hack into their computers to find those secrets.Or you can scroll down for comments containing the acronym IANAL explaining how this self proclaimed geek should be let off due to a complex and totally bogus legal argument. I WANT TO BELIEVE!
The choice is yours.

Re:No on actually reads that thing
the concept of 'religious freedom' has always intrigued me since it explicitly grants the dismissal of N gods but not N-1 for *any set* of N as long as N > 1.
Interesting. What country did you live in, again ? I know of none which actually forces you to pick a god to worship.
it almost says you *have to* pick a god - any god will do.
Ah, so it doesn't, really, just almost. Poor you, you're almost oppressed.

If this gets modded informative i'm gonna laugh
To this day I haven't seen ANY of them
Here you go (you did kinda ask for it), but please bear in mind that a couple of these really are the sickest things ever.
Tubgirl (still image, pretty damn sick) http://aimtools.serialchiller.org/images/tubgirl.jpg
Lemonparty (still image, more funny than anything else) http://images.encyclopediadramatica.com/images/d/db/Lemonparty.jpg
Meatspin (animated gif, again, more funny than sick) http://jj.am/gallery/d/5614-2/Meatspin.gif
Goatse (still image, mildly sick, satisfies some scientific curiosities) http://www.avitable.com/adam/blog/goatse.gif
Mr. Hands (This one is actually new to me. It's a video, mildly sick but kinda funny) http://lbn.threat.tv/mrhands.mpg
2 Girls 1 Cup (Video, probably the sickest one on the list. I sincerely hope these women were paid more than they probably were.) http://www.slutload.com/watch/wMfFtNmWz2/2girls1cup.html
These links were all found in 10 minutes with cursory google searches, so I don't think you really tried all that hard to see these, but now you really have zero excuse.

May I introduce you to rule 36?
Rule 36 states:
There will always be even more fucked up shit than what you just saw
Now, I've been saying this all along, but nay sayers think the sky will never fall, and that the government is not out to get them. I've got bad news for you: It will, and they are, and if those two problems are not enough there will always be people willing to steal your stuff. period. no exceptions.
The fact that they have not stolen yours yet is merely an oversight on "their" part. It will happen at some point. Security is myth. Do not trust those that want to protect you. The government will never shield you, only pretend to do so. This is a harbinger of dangers to come, and reason to demand with some vigor that your financial institution be held accountable by law for the protection of your information. Yes, I mean that. If they want to do business with my money, I want guarantees. You should too.
-
I give you .... rule 36
Rule 36 states:
"There will always be even more fucked up shit than what you just saw"
Clearly, if you can imagine it, someone is probably trying to do it or has done it. Cyber Warefare, like Web 2.0, is a bloated term with multiple meanings. The trouble is that when you dismiss it because it is not like some famous battle of WWII, you risk falling foul of it through inaction, lack of preparation, and lazy security.
This is the 'new cold war' and they won't cut the wires because without them the USA could not spy on China. Silly boy. It's not just about money, it's about control. In international negotiations a little extra information is always good and the USA will be trying to collect as much of it as anyone else will. period. no exceptions.
Lately there has been a bit more in the news where 'cyber warfare' has been used to demonize the Chinese among others. I think this is not so different from the build up of bad PR we saw against Iraq and now Iran. Looking at the collective picture I think that the news we hear is propaganda and that the part we hear is what the government wants us to hear. We hear 'warfare' 'China is bad' etc. What we SHOULD hear is "The US is engaged in technological spying techniques, and in our efforts we have noticed that the Chinese also do this". You should also hear that "Any dirty technique you can think of with computers: We're trying those, but those damned Chinese have ruined it for us, they are forcing everyone to use RedFlag Linux and we have no back door in that OS".
Expect new 'kernel patches' soon and complete Chinese language updates as well.

Re:Ghosts
While vendor lock-in is a common feature in products from established Western vendors,
It isn't, actually. The source has been open for nearly two millennia, and numerous forks exist. Nowadays the legal issues have been settled too, so you are unlikely to be met by the Spanish Inquisition for starting a new one or compiling a custom kernel of beliefs for your personal use.
Just beware of malware and ignore the nay-sayers.

List of deletionists and abusive admins
I am naming and shaming them here. If Wikimedia wan'ts their 6 Million donations, they better start banning deletionists and breaking up the cabals of rogue admins. They are worse than the vandal known as Willy on Wheels! Willy on Wheels only moved pages on wheels, not delete free content knowledge. Look at their contributions to see what I mean.
TTN, MER-C, OrangeMarlin, Oxymoron83, Antandurus, Luna Santin, Alison, SpaceBirdy, CometStyles, IronHolds, Betacommand, Spellcast, Lucasbfr, JzG, Standstien, and more.
I was a former editor with over 5000 edits before I left due to deletionists, so I know the deletionist gangs first hand.

Who wasn't using Kazaa back then?
I'll admit to using Kazaa, but I quit using it after 2002. Too much risk, RIAA's "secret music police" and this thing called Torrents were starting to catch on.
Hopefully this girl will make it out of the trial as a minmium $750 per item fine is down right crazy! If a person downloads 12 songs, that is well over $9000.
It's time for RIAA to grow up and hit the road. -
Re:My eyes, they burn!
Indeed I have. Due to my extensive viewing of pictures manipulated by Adobe Photoshop, it is my assertion that the picture on the right has been so manipulated, independent of the admission that it has been, chiefly for three reasons:
- I can tell by the pixels, as alluded to in my previous post
- The reflections are all wrong
- The background flag added looks like clip art and is a textbook case of you are doing it wrong
Thus, given these three observations, I proffer my determination that this picture is indeed shopped.

Losing Stuff in Space Memes
We've probably all seen the video on youtube with the stoned spiders, and the kooky webs they make. I wonder what the effects of cosmic radiation will be on this spider who will be waiting a long time for a snack to buzz into his web. Unless, by space-surviving spider, they mean he can eat non-living things like dust? I think he likely drifted off like the $100000 tool belt that one space-walking astronaught lost yesterday. At least this loss wasn't as expensive. However it's possible this is a mutated spider that craves the media attention for the lulz, in which case it's possible that the spider unlatched the tool-belt in order to make a getaway, and build his own Evil Spider Space Station, with his newly acquired tool set, and other classified missing materials (that would not be reported)!
Although in another scenario, the tool belt will fall to earth with the spider riding it, Slim Pickens style, to crash land and obliterate some curious bystander, ala Dead Like Me. I still think it is more likely the spider will crash land somewhere and start another internet meme (link site contains articles that are 100% NSFW).

Addiction
Seriously conflicted here. Addiction should never encompass anything that the bulk of society uses every day. I would imagine that the fundamental definition for any addiction should include a majority of negative repercussion, or at least that the addiction would cause the person's ultimate doom.
Look at alcoholism. Approximately 2% of alcoholics get Korsakoff's Syndrome, which ultimately destroys the person's sense of reality while Thiamine B6 is absent from the 3rd & 4th ventricle of the brain long enough for damage to erode/reconfigure brain cells. There is no parallel result in internet addiction, apart from mood swings and perhaps suicide attempts, but these are all mostly related to social mishaps online. Internet abuse does not cause anything like Korsakoff's.
Drug addiction, seems to all fit.
Alas, where a parallel could exist would be with sex addiction, although one could argue that the STD's cause your doom.
About the only thing Internet Addiction could cause is An Hero Syndrome (NSFW).
Medically, there could be serious degenerative disorders as a result of being fixated in one place for long periods of time, or perhaps dietary issues from eating and drinking the worst possible food in order to have more time online, but again that's all a bit of a stretch.
If I had to guess, I would say that the term Internet Addiction is a misnomer. This is more aptly that people who struggle to get back online crave attention because their own lives are sparse or deficient in areas of socialization, so they feel powerful online and therefore need it.
I think there is a long way to go on this subject and China's efforts, while interesting, are not quite there yet.

Maybe MTV can do for the web...
Maybe MTV can do for the web what it did for television...
"Abbreviation for Music Television. (More like Reality Television, amirite?) This name was chosen ironically after MTV's most hated enemy, music...
Since its inception no more than 99 years ago, MTV has attempted to systematically exterminate music, and to date, they have been reasonably successful in this regard. Some argue that the key to their victory was their outright refusal to have music videos played on their channel, or even to acknowledge the existence of music in any way (as evidenced by the various award shows they host every year).
Responsible for the successful careers of such shit bands and artists as 50 Cent, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, Lil' Jon, Coldplay and James Blunt. Indeed, rumor has it that MTV's official policies require them to have one of the aforementioned on screen at all times. But obviously they should never actually play any of their songs. That would be severely damaging to their popularity."

OF COURSE ANON HAD CAEK!
*not have cake
You may be confusing Scientologists with GLaDOS.
Well, you can't blame everyone for getting confused on these points. So let's set the record straight.
On the 3/15 "Ides of March" raid in San Francisco, not only did Anonymous have cake, and it was not only delicious and moist, it even had "The cult is a lie. The cake is not." written on it, along with the obligatory mudkip. (Anonymous lieks mudkips.)
O RLY? YA RLY.. There was even video, and it's not a rick roll.
So - the Scilons tie the DDOS round. DDOS game ends tied at 1:1. One point for Anon for a successful DDOS and a huge storm of publicity, and the Cult gets a point for nailing one Anon to the wall for it.
By my score, the running tally is around Anon 8, Scilons 2 (the Scilons only get half points for one Florida critic having "killed himself" under questionable circumstances in a jurisdiction where the Scilons have infiltrated the police department (Occupied Clearwater), and for the murder of Sean Carasov's cat (of course, the cat was also named Mudkips), because their part in those deaths can't be conclusively proven. As for Rorschach himself, the cult may have killed his cat, but they couldn't make their trumped-up charges stick in court. Anon 1, Scilons 0.5 on the Carasov game.)
The games continue.
