Re:Things like...
Being European and leaning slightly to the left I'd like to see that page drawn up. And please don't be coy with details, I know my German history. Make sure to mark the counterparts of the Holocaust and the Gleichschaltung in bold so I won't miss them.
Jews to Belsen, Muslims to Guantanamo Bay... The Nazi concentration camps weren't death camps to begin with. It took several years between the start of the policy of vilification of Muslims - sorry, I meant Jews - and the start of the policy of extermination. But it's a process, and one which the United States has clearly begun. Like the Jews at Belsen, the Muslims at Guantanamo Bay have been made Untermensch, outside the protection of normal law.
Muslim citizens in the United States are already subject to arbitrary arrest and detention without charge. They're subject to invasive searches and monitoring when they travel. They're already subject to threats and abuse from their neighbours. This is just what the Jews in Germany were experiencing in the late twenties and early thirties. And the first concentration camp has now been operating for over a year.
Remember:
In Germany first they came for the communists and I did not speak out- because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the Jews and I did not speak out- because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out- because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics and I did not speak out- because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me- and there was no one left to speak out for me.They're coming for the muslims now. What are you going to do?

Re:absolutely not
Nice troll. Even Mike Hawash admits he is guilty of being a terrorist conspirator. I suggest next time you want to bash President Bush and Administration, you look outside your "clickish" group for information so you don't end up with egg on your face.

Re:Linux Router Projects
Freesco.org? Is it just me or is that an unfortunate domain name to have in this day and age?
Darl McBride: FreeSCO? We have IP rights to three of the letters in that domain. Sue them!
Linux Geek: FreeSCO? Darl must have seen freemikehawash.org and is planning ahead for when IBM's lawyers are through with him. Now where did I put that DoS script I was saving for something like this?

Media bias against Mike?
look at him.. I don't mean to come off as a racist or anything, but seriously. when you are in fact a terrorist, wouldn't it make sense to sharpen up a little, maybe try and cut down on the co-worker- thinks- im- a- terrorist- because- i- look- like- this factor?
I suspect we're being misled. It's alot easier for the media to villify someone who looks so "evil" (or at least, different). Looking around, it looks like "scruffy looking Mike" is not necessarily typical Mike. Check out the courtroom sketch, he's just a clean shaven, balding geek. Well, maybe he just cleaned up for the court case, but he apparently also cleaned up for his wedding. And he has a nicely trimmed beard for this photograph.
I don't expect any better from Fox News, given such brilliant lines as claiming that Mike conspired "...to join the fight in Afghanistan against U.S. troops." Um, yeah. I suppose we sent our troops over to Europe during World War II because we wanted to join the fight against German troops? Certainly not because we wanted to stop German aggression, no we were specifically against the German troops. Of course, if you're honest and say that Mike might have been conspiring to defending Afghanistan from external invasion, it doesn't sound quite as evil.
Okay, maybe Mike really did try to help the Taliban, and I oppose that. However, this really doesn't point to Mike being an imminant danger to the United States. The man has an American wife and children! Mike's being made an example of because we're discovering that finding real terrorists is hard.

Re:You know what's sad about this? Some may have rallied around him for good reasons, but I think most just took it as a convenient opportunity to bash Republicans
From http://www.freemikehawash.org/ "On April 28, the day before Mike would have been ordered released, the U.S. Justice Department issued a Complaint, charging Mike with Conspiracy to Levy War on the United States. Mike is being targeted because he is a Muslim. The Justice Department has organized a smear campaign to portray him as a radical."
From Warblogging (a blog about making war against Republicans apparently): "I urge you to write letters to the editors of your local newspapers. Call your senators, call your congressmen. Call into your local radio talk shows. Make a fuss. Tell everyone who will listen about Mike Hawash. He deserves it, and so does the next one who will be dragged into this Kafka-esque nightmare."
From Wired: Ex-Intel VP Fights for Detainee
Oh, let's not forget the ever-accurate New York Times: Terrorism Task Force Detains an American Without Charges
If you browse around and read other articles on many of the private publications that spoke out on this you find constant Bush bashing, comparisons of Republicans to Nazis, an much worse. Liberals figured that this successful natuaralized American of 17 years had a good chance of actually being innocent, so what better way to give the Bush administration grief.
What I don't understand is, why don't the Liberals actually wait till they have some solid information before they bash away? Time after time they just make themselves look like air-heads on things like this.
Here is a clue: What MOTIVE would the current administration or any administration have for falsely arresting anyone on terrorism charges? This notion that the administration hates Arabs just doesn't hold water. They arrested these people because they HAD something on them. Does that mean that every single one will be found guilty? No. But if I let party politics rule my every decision as most of these people seem to do, I think I'd WAIT till one of the innocents had been let go to start my smear campaign. A lot less erroneous web pages to clean up that way. (4000 hits on google to web content proclaiming this guy's innocence).

Re:shoulda shaved or something

Weird
He obviously hasn't been shaving or something since he's been in jail. He hasn't always looked like that.
-
Conspiracy?
The whole thing reeks of a gov't conspiracy. At least, his friends and coworkers seem to think so.
-
Wonder how much his 'defense fund' received
On his Free Mike Hawash site, they still have paypal donations links, and statements about his 'innocence'. I wonder how much money they racked it.
-
Mike Hawash
Guys, don't forget Mike Hawash.
-
we have
Another intel employee rotting away in federal prison as a "material witness" without being charged.
-
Re:In other news....
It isn't a myth. You're just too much of a coward to recognize what's happening in this country. As another poster mentioned, a citizen of our country has been detained for weeks without charges or a public hearing. I wonder--why haven't the same people that told you that was a myth tell you about the injustices being done to Mike Hawash? -
Also OT but Oregon-related...This was previously reported on Slashdot, but be sure to check out this site.
On Thursday, March 20, 2003, our friend and colleague Maher (Mike) Hawash was arrested ("detained") as a "material witness" by the FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force in the parking lot of Intel Corp's Hawthorne Farms offices. Simultaneously, FBI agents in bulletproof vests and carrying assault rifles awoke Mike's wife Lisa and their three children in the home, which they proceeded to search. Since then, Mike has been held in the Federal Prison at Sheridan, OR.
And for the tech geek in you...
As a lead engineer on the Intel's MMX technology software team, he developed the MMX technology emulator and optimized MPEG video decoders. As part of the Intel Architecture Labs (IAL), Mike developed several new video technologies, including Intel Indeo Video and ProShare products, the Intel Smart Video Recorder, and Intel's contribution to Microsoft's VfW (Video For Windows) and ActiveMovie. Later he worked on building one of the first WiFi enabled wireless devices used in healthcare industry for writing electronic prescriptions. The project produced one of the first wireless devices with speech recognition and built-in WiFi. Mike continues to work at Intel Corp as a contract employee.
Help this guy out. -

Re:New features include tracking where you click!!
It's new to me, I use google.
The fact that they think they will be able to take users away from google by (or while) tracking their browsing habits is a bit far fetched to me.
And It's not anonymous if you are logged in to yahoo. Unless you log out, disable cookies, reboot your ISP connection until you have a new IP, then perform your search.
The funny thing is I wasn't a Tin Foil Hat wearing privacy nut until my government decided they wanted to Track everyone's online habits And Hold them completely waiving Habeus Corpus
And Buffy will marry me, don't mock my love. -
well...
In a nice happy world of sunny days and bunnies hopping across the ground the goverment would serve the people, not impose rediculous laws on them and lock people up for no apparent reason.
