Can't stop hosts (vs. scripts & domain names)
Stops domains & script sources (faster than NoScript) APK Hosts File Engine 9.0++ SR-7 32/64-bit https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=&bih=&q=%22APK+Hosts+File+Engine%22+and+%22start64%22&btnG=Google+Search&gbv=1/
Ads/script/malware rob speed/security/privacy/bandwidth.
Hosts add speed (via hardcodes/adblocks), security (vs. bad sites/malware/poisoned dns), reliability (vs. dns down), & anonymity (vs. dns requestlogs/trackers).
Less power/cpu/ram + IO use vs. DNS/routers/addons/antivirus + less security bugs/complexity & faster vs. addons/routers/remote dns!
Avoids DNSChangers in routers/IP settings & dns redirect (99.999% of ISP DNS != patched vs. it) + DNS requestlog tracking & lighten DNS load & resolve faster from local system RAM!

Re: Embrace and Extend
Bingo.
I'm very glad the Windows has a good way to run Linux programs. Why? Well, I don't want to waste an afternoon figuring out which three lines I need to write to handle something that any reasonable desktop OS would handle with no hassle.
By which time you've probably spent several weeks insecurely downloading Chromium to have a proper web browser, going through YouTube videos learning how to restore your desktop functionality, making sure to turn off the windows store so your kids don't auto-install some malware searching sites to try to find instructions to turn off the spyware features, probably managing to get some other drive by malware in the process. Installing antivirus software, then removing it when you find out that it had malware included.
But, cutting and pasting a three line script. That's really the time killer. Isn't it.

Re:Not smart, but it is right
And after the wars and needed reconstruction from where do you think that money came from if not from the rest of Spain?
In fact right now Catalonia depends on the central government's money since has a junk bonds rating that means that can no longer issue its own debt and is nearing default.
Catalonia with a direct debt of $100 Billions has the highest debt of all Spain's autonomous regions, and an independent Catalonia would have a 265 Billion of euros debt.
Quoting wikipedia don't make you smart.

Re:Spain made the first mistake move
If I remember, the call for total independence started about a decade ago. Spain's response at that time was to remove the extra powers they had been granted with their autonomy, reeling them back in to the fold.
No extra powers they were granted with their autonomy were ever removed. On the contrary they only grew and grew with the years in exchange of the support to the weak national governents.
Not even the education powers which the nationalist government systematically been using to instill their political agenda among shool childrens. Now is using them as cannon fooder.
About a decade ago the childrens educated under the nationalist government already came out of voting age.

The purpose of DRM is to give content providers leverage against creators of playback devices."He makes a compelling point.

Re:Sounds like marketing bullshit
One example of the type of processing they need is Google's Tensor Processing Unit (TPU). This chip is designed for offloading much of the machine learning processing that is involved.
-
Re:Wrong approach
For AI/machine learning the parts are rather specialized. For example, look at Google's tensor processing unit (TPU). Machine learning typically involves a lot of large integer matrix multiply operations where dedicated hardware makes a big difference in performance.
For example, Google's TPU consists of 64K 8-bit multipliers in a 256x256 array along with around 4M adders. A general purpose CPU or even a GPU will not be nearly as optimal. Google's TPU performance per watt is around 83x as good as a CPU and 28x as good as a GPU.

Re: deleting reviews and now this?
Until you posted, there's not a single link in the entire thread. No, I didn't read the reviews to look for deleted reviews. Not a single news outlet has written about this in a week. https://www.google.com/search?... Amazon is sticking to their story and nobody with circulation has challenged them on it. I don't know why. Amazon also lets people vote on whether reviews are helpful, a form of meta-moderating. But that's probably falling down as well. Amazon is somewhat of the only moderator here and just like we at
/. love to criticize the mods (I did it in my first post in this thread), people are criticizing Amazon. They also criticize football umpires. And that's fair. But remember football officials are trying to create a "fair" game. Amazon is not. Their trying to have happy customers. -
That's not saying much
A lot of Puerto Rico's electrical network is badly neglected. Much of the system is suspended on old fashioned post-war power poles and overloaded with too many cables. It looks like something from 19th century New York. None of this is terribly surprising: it's a government run power system that is absurdly dysfunctional.
The whole thing fell over. Big surprise. Not.

Re:No mobile != resisting technology
One of the steps to link a Google Account with Google Authenticator is "turn on 2-Step Verification for your account using your phone number." This cannot be done on a laptop or tablet computer without a subscription to phone service.
-
Google Authenticator requires a phone number
And/or you can install an app on a phone/tablet that will generate that different code every minute (without the need of internet access)
You still need to receive SMS in order to add your Google Account's key to a TOTP app because Google considers SMS to be the primary second factor and TOTP apps as a backup to SMS. From the article "Google Account Help: Install Google Authenticator":
To set this up, first you need to complete SMS/Voice setup.
[...]
Setting up the app
1. If you haven’t already, turn on 2-Step Verification for your account using your phone number.
2. On your computer, go to the 2-Step Verification settings page.
3. Scroll to "Alternative second step."Twitter also appears to require SMS in order to set up TOTP.

Re:I always wonder why
I searched for Procter and Gamble, then right-clicked on the first non-ad link that google shows. Here is the URL (remember, this isn't an ad):
https://www.google.com/url?sa=...The browser should show the link target (URL) when hovering over it.
However, in this case at least Chrome and Firefox (on Linux) show just "us.pg.com", instead of that longer google-URL (which you can only get by right-clicking and copying the link address) - how does Google "inform" the browsers to not to show the actual URL? -
Re:I always wonder why
Contrast all that with the non-ad link that the search string "procter and gamble" generates, which is simply "http://us.pg.com/".

I've met a few modern recipes like that--they're ones meant for large-batch cooking. If I'm having to multiply one of those by 3.5? I don't want to have to be thinking about that particular math, I've got other problems that are requiring my attention, which hopefully includes "How to use this borrowed industrial kitchen?" and not "How do I pull this off in a home kitchen?"

Re:The figure that matters...
That's simply not true. Here is a survey of data gathered from Tesla owners. Click charts. Typical first-year degradation rates are about 4%, but then it slows down significantly from there. Average year-5 degradation appears to be a total of around 6-7% versus a new pack. A gas or diesel car's efficiency (and thus range) will have generally dropped well more than that by year 5.

Re:Investment
If this investment had been poured into their actual infrastructure and IT staff salaries they probably would not have had a breach. Instead they funnel it into lawyers....unbelievable.
Well, that's what companies almost have to do with the government we have.
When we have so many damn laws and regulations that the average person commits three felonies a day, what do you expect large companies that will have enemies in politics to do?
If large companies don't cultivate friends in government, they're going to get fucked whether they deserve it or not.
That's a real consequence of a large, ubiquitous, overweening government.
And the more power you give to that government to "fix" it, the more incentive you create for any powerful person to engage in corrupting that government as much as possible - even well-intentioned companies are already forced to lobby the government just for self-presevation.

Re:PC baloney
PC baloney
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
While electrons are easier to transport over distances, molecules are much easier to stockpile and transfer without loss.
Merely even refining transportation fuels is a much less efficient process than charging li-ions.
Carrying your own oxidizer with you is stupid when the air is 20% oxygen, not to mention that riding on a ton of fuel and oxidizer packed in close proximity is silly
Li-ions don't work by oxidation processes, they work by intercalation processes. On one side you have graphite and/or silicon, and on the other you have nickel/cobalt/aluminum oxides. One or both of them are infiltrated with lithium ions in the interstitial space; the charge state is defined by which side the lithium is on.
You seem to be under the mistaken concept that energy density corresponds to safety. Tell me, which is more of a hazard, 100kg of aluminum or 100kg of nitroglycerine? Now tell me, which is more energy dense?
Here's the reality of fire safety in Tesla battery packs. They're so non-flammable that you can generally burn the rest of the car to the ground without burning the pack. Try that with a gasoline car. Gasoline fires in cars are extremely common. 152k gasoline cars catch fire in the US alone every year. Tesla rates of fires are far less than those in gasoline cars.
What boggles the mind *to me* is that gasoline vehicles are allowed to store such huge quantities of a highly flammable fuel in just a big tank. No compartmentalization / isolation system, just pour it in, and there you go!
And lastly: IC engines have consumables yes, but they are field-serviceable and don't require complete remanufacturing to maintain their efficiency.
Simply not true. ICE efficiencies decline over time, and the level of cost required to keep them running at as-of-manufactured efficiency makes it impractical to do for most consumers. Older ICE vehicles are generally much less efficient than new ones. Which also, BTW, reduces range. Proper li-ion packs, like Tesla's, do lose range with time, but only slowly. Click on "charts". Typical degradation is about 4% in the first year, but much slower thereafter. A typical 5-year old car has only about 6-7% total degradation. It's hard to know at this point whether you can continue extrapolating such a slow decline slope over time, but it's at the very least extremely promising. Typical results from Tesla taxis with hundreds of thousands of miles on them are less than 10% degradation.
We're talking "Now, not in a hundred years."
BTW, it also sounds like you're under the impression that EVs remain unusually heavy. Check out the curb weights of the Model 3 variants. SR is 3549lbs (1609kg) and LR is 3814 lbs (1730kg). Its ICE class competitors (BMW 3-series, Audi A4, Mercedes C300, etc) come in a wide variety of configurations:
BMW 3-Series: 1475-1770kg
Audi A4: 1410-1695kg
Mercedes C300: 1630-1715+kgThere's nothing unusual about the Model 3's weight versus its ICE competitors. The LR is a bit on the heavy side, but the SR slots right in the middle.
