The problem is, there are a lot of people that don't want to think. The vast majority of people are like that. Why do you think vapid shit like "American Idol" and "Deal or No Deal?" are still getting millions of viewers, and intellectually interesting shows like Firefly where there's an actual plot and dialogue and story get canceled? Shit, I changed channel to "Deal or No Deal" last night as I was surfing and there was a fucking chimpanzee that they had to either agree or disagree with the damn contestant. Next step, "Ass", the movie. Kids will NOT get the intrinsic value of learning from their family life, or from their friends who have the same style of family life. We need to give them some reason to do something other than skate through, and a financial reward for doing well is something they can grasp with their meager attention spans and strong desire to not think hard about anything. Why do you think people go to church? Somebody tells them what to think about God and morality. It's easier that way.

You clearly have a different approach than the parent so I'll be fair and answer to your point of view as well. The problem with your argument is that you put equal weight on that innocent someone as you do on the not so innocent ones. It's a matter of cost. If by not allowing 100 people to play rape games you manage to prevent one out of those 100 to rape a person in reality then to me it's a small cost to pay. The impact of each action is different so naturally they must be weighed against each other. Mind you I'm not trying to prove to you why we should or shouldn't ban rape games, I'm merely pointing out why I think your argument fails. I'm not impossible to convince but I need more than speculation to change opinions.

One thing is for certain though, no discussion even needed. If any of us had been the victim of a rape crime we would have a significantly different view of the matter. Perhaps it's important not to forget that, and at the same time try to challenge the matter from that side as well.

Well, first and foremost because she was never raped. It's a story. Fiction. A depiction that leads you to believe that in the film the character she played was raped. While I'm sure this game is more graphic and interactive, it's also just fiction. A depiction that leads you to believe that the underage character was raped. Except with even less basis in reality.

Anyone remember Rock-n-Roll High School? Exploding lab mice? Anyone?

No, unfortunately. I wish I had the skill to write like that, but the movie has been already: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Sadly, this scene didn't make or at least I don't remember it).

If you haven't read the books though, I highly recommend you do. The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy would be a good one to pick up, as it contains all of the series.

Someone should make a movie of the game, recapping its history from beginning to end (kind of like what was done for Futurama: The Game ). My Matrix DVD collection would be incomplete without it.

When you come in to the US, they tell you that you don't have to comply with the checks, but that if you don't you can't enter. So what if you refuse to comply with that one? You can't leave?

Yep, you have to stay at the airport for several years and Tom Hanks stars in a really boring film about your time there. Please, comply with the searches so we don't have to sit through another movie like this!

The USSR had very strict border control and it was more to keep their populace in than to keep foreigners out. Thus I see this as a step down a very bad path.

I don't believe in everything I read, and I fully agree with you. I may have sounded too critical, but as you have your 'hero' in your cultural ground, we have our 'violent cop that solves everything by killing people'. If you watch a movie called Tropa de elite (something like 'Elite Squad') you'll see what most Brazilians think about how crime should be handled. Good movie, terrible way of solving the problems.

Anyway, I liked the book because it explained pretty good some atitudes that the US takes when dealing with foreign affairs. South America has a lot to complain since Monroe doctrine.
