Re:technology: procmail
Shouldn't be too hard to figure out who the interest groups are, then dump them in a separate folder. Possibly for a hapless intern to get frustrated with writing summaries thereof. Really now, people who put themselves in positions where efficient communications handling is essential should have the skills, though most don't even know what a header is nevermind not to top-post. Time to learn, buncha slackers.
Anyway, procmail is just one way. SIEVE support on your IMAP server would be another. Plenty mail clients have custom filtering, there exist toolsets to run commands on an imap, again possibly in conjunction with procmail, and maybe there already exists a GUI to ease such use for the lesser educatable beings among us, or else it is easily whipped up.
If rules won't do, then train a bayes filter (like spamassassin) on an interest group mass-mailings set and have it dump them in a separate (non-spam) folder. You can use the same technology for multiple targets, not just spam/non-spam. I haven't actually tried but it shouldn't be too hard to adapt, the idea is the same.
Work this out and offer your services to your representatives, for a modest fee. Should be a nice weekend-earner. Royalties to the usual address please.

Re:SciFi don't dictate what I love, or dis-love
I sure haven't seen any in the last 5 years. I can only think of one movie that was about humans in space: Avatar
Off the top of my head:
Star Trek. Seriously - how did you not know about this movie? (Number of Zombies: 0)
Prometheus. Granted, it's not released yet, but it's opening in June this year. (Number of Zombies: 0, is my guess)
John Carter. Technically that's about A human going into space. 150 or so years ago. (Number of Zombies: I haven't seen it, but I don't think it has any)
Iron Sky. Opened two days ago. And it's about Nazis on the Moon. (Number of Zombies: I haven't seen it, but it's Nazis, so you can't ever be sure)
Moon. Granted, it's A human on the Moon, but considering the story, I'd say it qualifies. (Number of Zombies: 0)
Apollo 18. Horror story based on the cancelled Moon mission. (Number of Zombies: 0)
Predators. Granted, it's not humanity travelling into space, but it is about humans in space. (Number of Zombies: 0)
Planet 51. Animated comedy. Surprisingly entertaining and endearing view of humanity. (Number of Zombies: 0)
Sunshine. Humanity has to reignite the Sun. Definitely not something you can do from your backyard. (Number of Zombies: 0) -

Re:British screwed Turing
Yes the UK wanted to keep the public away from the 'we broke the codes' in ~near realtime ww2 spoiler.
How would other countries, new, large, small, friendly, neutral view the news?- would they all take on the effort for extreme generational crypto security and make the job of a less well funded GCHQ not so easy?
The UK also had a few hundred years practice in blackmail and felt Turing going on some European holiday was a security risk.
Who would he meet, who would seduce him, what might maths, machine and ww2 topics cover....
At some point his unique skills vs the risk of Soviet interest might have tipped as more people understood the new maths and computing.
He was a risk and not unique anymore.
The 1996 movie "Breaking the Code" is a good staring point http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115749/ -

Re:and this is how...
Bad loans were the core of the housing bubble. To understand the reason behind it all, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Why would lenders make loans that are unlikely to be repaid?" Answering that question leads to the answer behind the bubble. It was a bubble in supposedly AAA-rated mortgage debt.
Here's how it worked:
1) Securitization of mortgages into MBS (mortgage-backed securities).
2) Banks made money from selling the loans to securitizers and getting them off their books, not keeping them and collecting interest.
3) Demand for these securities skyrocketed, as they were thought to be safe and reliable income streams.
3) This led to the utter deterioration of loan quality, as banks basically just needed to get warm bodies to make loans to, create the loan and sell it. You started seeing things like NINJA loans (No Income No Job or Assets - NINJA) and option ARM loans made to risky borrowers. All included in securities rated AAA.
4) Investment companies bought these loans, ratings agencies stamped a AAA rating on them and the securities were then sold off. Buyers hungry for safe and reliable high interest returns couldn't get enough of it. Thus a bubble was formed.Basically, for mortgage originators, it was like printing monopoly money, and then turning it in for actual currency. When borrowers started defaulting en masse, the whole house of cards came tumbling down.

Re:How did they get a patent...
Ohh, look someone has patented that piece of crap movie Lawnmowerman 2 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116839/ released in 22 August 1996 in Australia now including production time, that puts it well before that date. Now that is just one blatant example.
1) Watch a crap movie
2) Describe what's going on in patent language.
3) Bullshit Uncle Tom patent law revision, fuck prior art, if it ain't patented patent it and fight it out in court.
4)???????
5) Profit. One can only imagine all the stuff that is currently being done that wasn't patented and that will. One of the more popular ones, is to go through every imaginable variant of relational databases, re-describe the database in patent language and if some troll already hasn't patented it, patent it.

the dark side of the moon IS A TRAP!

I swear there is another, even larger thread about this same issue. Maybe more people are just waking up to this. When you're in a place where people are waiting or in transit in large groups, a Subway, a Bus station, etc. in checkout lines in stores, at amusement parks in long lines, etc.
(I am not promoting or suggesting you or anyone watch one or any of the following films. I haven't since I've awoken and I intend to avoid them from now on):
Films that have always bothered me when considering what you've said, in the real world:

* Dark City: what if not only the "dead" were/are being used as vessels, but living ones
as well? (remember "Dax" from ST:DS9? and her "parasite" like being inside her?)

A Night To Remember
Indeed. I also personally think that "Titanic" was the (down)-turning point of Cameron's career.
"A Night to Remember" was a much more dignified, respectful and authentic film in many ways. It also didn't rely on the audience to all be 15-year-old girls with a DiCaprio crush, and didn't drag on for 3 hours...

Worth a look for all the young cinephiles on here who don't already know it.
Be aware, though: no gratuitous 3D, no gratuitous colo(u)r and no gratuitous naked Kate Winslet, either. It does have a young, clothed Honor "Pussy Galore" Blackman in it, though.

Captain Kirk's doppleganger can just name his price and have that internet site he endorses foot the bill for the construction of this iconic piece of science fiction history!

now they have shifted the goalposts and now the new metric is profitability.
Even more hilarious is how they seem to fail to realise that Apple's profit comes more or less directly from their own pockets. "I mean the people when you look at them or talk to them it's like there clueless and their mind is off in outer space. And even a simple conversation seems like something their not capable of,whats up with them."
* They Live: but what if he was going *too* far and these *aliens* were just possessing the people and he saw the evil which was front and center while the human was "asleep" (Matrix possible connection) in the background of the mind?
* Truman Show: if not "one" individual, what of "millions" all duped by another race?
* Dark City: what if not only the "dead" were/are being used as vessels, but living ones
as well? (remember "Dax" from ST:DS9? and her "parasite" like being inside her?)
Something interesting if you should ever watch Dark City, potential spoiler,
one guy who "woke up" was concerned about "them" getting to him, so he found
a way out, and he jumped in front of a train to his death..
if you go frame by frame around the time or after he jumps in front of the train,
or press pause exactly at the right moment (it's difficult to spot if you use
pause) there is a poster on the wall, where one normally wouldn't be in real
life, and it mentions HELL, I forget what it says exactly, but HELL is mentioned
on the poster. It's been a long time since I've sat down with Dark City, and
honestly I won't again, it's too jarring to the mind once you've explored all of
this Illuminati crap.* Matrix: In my opinion the movie is a lie, IMOthe red pill symbolises the opposite, being
pushed into a frame of mind or (sub)reality in which you are a puppet and controlled.
vs. "awakening" to truth, instead you are "deceived" through lies. Symbolism of
the creature taken from Neo could be related to a soul or more likely a protective
(holy) spirit, extracted by Satanists. The whole "Matrix" world, when viewed in
reverse (no, I don't mean watching it from ending to beginning) and perverted *for*
Satanist world-view/goals is eye opening, the same with Dark City. This movie only
bothers me, not for the fake/real awakening/reality concepts but in that I feel
the whole movie, IMO is a lie and the real meaning is perverted, kind of like..* Fight Club: On many levels this movie bothers me, but I see the dark female character in the
movie as an evil angel which is involved in the split of the two identities of
the one leading role. In the same way I perceive her role in the film I see the
same, or feel the same vibe for the role of the female evil creature in the movie..* The Ninth Gate: both the "odd" female role in this and in Fight Club shout out to me in

Re:Club of Rome Study 2I agree that there are a great number of self-absorbed, greedy Marie "Let them eat cake" Antoinettes in this country. Nevertheless, I think your view is overly simplistic.
But they were right if you look at the true disparity in rich and poor. The poor in the rest of the world live in fricking dirt holes. The poorest in the USA live like the rich in many 3rd world countries.
There is indeed a huge disparity between the rich and the poor in the U.S. I've been on both sides of that situation (well...maybe not quite "rich", but I'm a very comfortable middle-class to upper middle-class right now). I've also been to some of the poorest parts of Alaska and to Guatemala. Quite honestly, I'd rather move to Guatemala than some of the places I've been in Alaska, and not just because the weather was nicer there
:) Guatemala: running water and flush toilets, even if the toilet paper has to go in the trash can. Chevak, Alaska: no running water, and "honey buckets" (pro-tip -- it's not honey in there). The gap between the worlds poor and rich is growing exponentially. right now the top 1% of the united states could buy real homes for 100% of the worlds poor and still be the top 1% rich. Yes it's that bad. And it will get worse.
How do you propose to solve that problem? This is something I have thought about quite a bit in my lifetime. Like I mentioned above, I don't have everything I want but I certainly have far more than I need. Meanwhile, there are people around the world who don't have enough to survive on. That bothers me. But the solution isn't as simple as, "give my excess to others." Sure, there are ways to help support others. My wife and I sponsor a girl who is the same age as our daughter (11) in Guatemala so that she can attend a private school and get a better education than she would otherwise. I've been to the school, and I've met the little girl (photos from the trip, although I didn't include my sponsor child, out of respect for her privacy). That's a start, but how do the rich in the western world feed the families who are starving in Ethiopia and Somalia? Do you remember "Blackhawk Down?" That movie was based upon the true story of what happens when well-intentioned westerners try to feed some of those poor in other parts of the world. The fact is that there are those who derive their power from the oppression of others. Consequently, "feeding the poor" often means removing their oppressors from power first so the food will actually get to the poor, rather than the local warlord. Are you willing to go to war so that sub-Saharan Africa can eat America and Europe's surplus? I won't argue that that might be one of the best reasons for taking up arms since the Revolutionary War, but you'd better understand what it would take to raise the third world up to first world standards and you'd also better be okay with overthrowing the local powers-that-be so you can build your idea of Utopia (*cough* "Iraq" *cough*).
It self perpetuates. The rich will not pay for things for the evil PARASITES to use. Walk to work you prole! a lot of things can be done to turn it all around. problem is it gives things to the poor, and that just can not be allowed to happen.
I don't want to pay for things so that those-who-can-but-won't can just sponge off of everyone else, no. I don't mind helping those who are simply down on their luck and need a hand getting back on their feet, however. "Give a man a fish...teach a man to fish..." And like I said above, it isn't really as simple as just giving my surplus to those in need. Making sure the surplus gets to those who truly need it is a big problem. If you can solve that problem, you'll be making a big difference in the world.

We all know that's how horror movies start.
It could have been a great seafaring adventure story instead. And adventure movies can be seen more than once - not so much with horror and mystery movies.

Re:Now think in American.
It was particularly peculiar to hear Americans making movies about Russians where they all had English accents.
By contrast, the pathetic attempt at Russian accents in K19 was rather annoying.
