That's not the issue at hand...
Sure taking pics and sending them on the internet isn't that good of an idea. However it shouldn't need to represent the overall character of the person.
Actually, the issue at hand is quite the opposite of that.
The brouhaha is around Lawrence's image of a nice, clean, maybe a little bit clumsy, but generally wholesome talented young girl who just recently won an Oscar and was nominated for another one.
And who is made into an idol to hundreds of thousand of girls and women through the recent movie adaptations of Hunger Games books.
That was, and IS, society's understanding of her overall character. In comparison, Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears... were all labeled and treated by the society as bimbos and sex kittens.
I.e. Sluts and whores.
Some of them laughing it off or even profiting from the incidents further cemented their image of a whore.Which, from time to time, is considered a positive thing.
Pamela Anderson went on Oprah and they talked about their favorite sex positions and how big (or small - Oprah) their husbands' dicks were.
Literally. It was fine. Girls will be girls. Girl power and all that. Te-he.
Sex and the City made an image of a woman as a materialistic nymphomaniac who profits (one way or another) from her sexcapades a positive thing for years.
The 50 shades craze?
A poor, sexually repressed girl hooks up with a perverted billionaire and they engage into S&M for several books (and apparently movies) - AND THAT'S A LOVE STORY.BUT...
Society, being part fans part judgmental mob, remembers them all as WHORES.
And you don't marry your whore or bring her back to meet the parents. Except in fairy tales like Pretty Woman.
Nor do you make a fuss of it when someone brings out the photos or videos of that whore's ass - again.
"We've seen it. Move on. She made good money out if it. She probably staged it all. After all, she's an actress. Theaters weren't traditionally right next to whorehouses for no reason. She wouldn't take that photo/video if she didn't intend to share it - like a whore would."Nor do you bring her home to babysit for your kids and be a role model for your daughter.
Oh... But what if your daughter chooses the newly revealed whore as a role model anyway?
And we know she's a whore cause she walks like a whore, quacks like a whore, dresses like a whore, takes naked selfies like all whores do and shakes her ass and boobs for everyone to see on TV...
Too late to sign her out from that archery class, and that guy with big arm muscles there says that she's "raw talent" and that maybe she could get into next Olympics if she trains hard.
And other stuff.Well, then you rise up in righteous indignation against those people who treat her, and by extension your daughter, girlfriend, sister, cousin, high school crush, friend... as a common whore.
I.e. Those who share her whore-photos around as if she's just another whore.Remember when way back in the day a former beloved first lady was called a sinner and a whore who should be excommunicated from the Church cause through no fault of her own she was photographed naked, in a private surrounding, through a telephoto lens?
Press invented a cute nickname for her too.
But despite one being a widow of an assassinated president, and the other an overrated 24-year-old actress, J-Law is a saint while Jackie O was a hoe.MY DAUGHTER DOES NOT ASSOCIATE WITH WHORES!!! GOT THAT!
Unless say you want to expose to your boss and the general society things like your Google Searches, or your DNS logs, magazines, or surveillance camera of you taking a second glance at the one other person.
Except nobody exposed that here, right?
Nobody cares what J-Law reads and what she searches for.
But everybody cares if she shows her ass or allows her ass to be shown - like a whore.Cause, a

Re:Straw Man
How many pics of unknown people were retrieved? People knew that the ICloud could be hacked. These same people wanted to see Jlaw and others naked. So they hacked Icloud. Did you notice there are no Tswift photos? She has an android phone. See any of Diana Agron? She has been hacked so many times that she doesn't trust Icloud or any other social media. Hense no pics. So the pics were in plain view just not what we would normally call it. So what 'plain view' was it? this: http://i.imgur.com/RO8iHG0.jpg If she hadn't done that. She would have an argument.

Re:Mimicking a theory, not a phenomenon
Yes, actually. There's a lovely introduction to acoustic holes, acoustic geometries and acoustic Hawking radiation by Visser (http://uk.arxiv.org/abs/gr-qc/9712010) where he summarises this fairly well:
"In particular, perhaps the most important lesson to be learned is this: Hawking radiation from event horizons is a purely kinematic effect that occurs in any Lorentzian geometry with an event horizon and is independent of any dynamical equations imposed on the Lorentzian geometry. On the other hand, the classical laws of black hole mechanics [40] are intrinsically results of the dynamical equations (Einstein equations) that have no analog in the acoustic model. Thus Hawking radiation persists even in the absence of the laws of black hole mechanics and, in particular, the existence or otherwise of Hawking radiation is now seen to be divorced from the issue of the existence or otherwise of the laws of black hole thermodynamics. Hawking radiation is a purely kinematical effect that will be there regardless of whether or not it makes any sense to assign an entropy to the event horizon — and attempts at deriving black hole entropy from the Hawking radiation phenomenon are thereby seen to require specific dynamical assumptions about the (at least approximate) applicability of the Einstein equations."
(Entertainingly given the story we're commenting on, Visser also comments "it is clear that experimental verification of this acoustic Hawking effect will be rather difficult. (Though, as Unruh has pointed out [1], this is certainly technologically easier than building [general relativistic] micro-black holes in the laboratory.)")
An interesting related problem one can set is to work in Rindler spacetime. This is just normal Minkowski spacetime (ie flat, Euclidean spacetime plus a time coordinate), but observed from observers uniformly accelerated away from a point. Rindler spacetime then slices Euclidean spacetime in four; no Rindler observer can pass from one of the quadrants to another, in a manner that resembles -- not necessarily that closely, but resembles -- Schwarzschild spacetime. (See these diagrams: Rindler spacetime, https://people.math.osu.edu/ge... and Schwarzschild spacetime, http://i.stack.imgur.com/bYrq7... ). Now Rindler spacetime is really just Euclidean spacetime written from the point of view of accelerating observers. Due to the close link in GR between acceleration and gravity -- the weak equivalence principle states that locally one cannot distinguish between the two -- it's probably not a surprise to learn that if one calculates the vacuum in Rindler coordinates, there is Hawking radiation! (This is "Unruh radiation" -- Bill Unruh has done a lot of work in the last few decades on this kind of topic, including some of the earliest papers on acoustic, or dumb, holes.)

Your repeated use of the same misdirection tactic is demonstrative of a lack of creativity, but I have faith that you must have only the best intentions at heart. Would you care to read the cited paper and provide your insights on the relative trustworthiness of the authors? For your convenience, and in the interest of minimizing your risk of misinterpreting the cover page of the paper, I have repeated the names of the authors here:

Re:If Minecraft is anything to go by
Oh you're right, this is not yet the scale of Minecraft, it's also very different, as you will see when exploring. Every distinct block is hand-drawn by the person, ranging from 19x19 pixels to 38x38 per drawing, with multiple animation cells and sometimes scripts attached to blocks, and numbers indeed don't measure the great things people have built... have a look at this screenshot gallery or explore the world and its many areas a bit to get an impression. Here's the City of Twilight or Green Mountain for instance, which you can add to too.

Re:Analog displays are better in some situations.
Hey, don't make assumptions like that. I've got tube voltmeters that are older than you!
One of which the meter failed on. Something in the movement let a sliver go, which stuck to the movement's magnet, which the coil was then jamming on / binding with. Ended up sorting it out, but it was like brain surgery. This was on a Hickok 209A, circa 1940, with a gigantic 9" meter on it.
I'll stick with my 80's vintage fluke bench meters for most things. They don't look quite as cool as the Hickok, though.
I do use the $5 china special DMMs, but only for abuse in the garage, car, etc.
I can luddite with the best of them, but I know my limits!

Here's how I did it
I have a traditional 2-story colonial home. There are four bedrooms, all on the second floor. I got a small spool of cat-6 "Siamese" cable; it's got coax and cat-6 separately jacketed, but heat-glued together. I recommend that even if Google Fiber doesn't use coax (does it?). You never know what the future may hold, and you're only going to want to do this once.
I went into the attic and liberally measured off cable for each bedroom. I think I did something like 15' for the drop down the wall to the outlet (9' ceilings), plus the length to the sewage stack, plus another 12' per floor (12 for the first floor and 12 for the basement), then tacked on another 10' to run from the sewage stack to the networking wall. So each run ended up something like 60-65 feet. I had to use a hole-saw to drill a 3" hole next to the sewage stack on the second floor. It was behind a section of wall that had an air vent in it. I had to take the vent off and push the duct work out of the way. That was a little scary, and I wasn't able to get it back together perfectly, but it was worth it in the end. Once I was able to drop a weighted string to from attic to the basement, I taped up all the BR cables at one end, tied that to the string, and lowered them down along the sewage stack. I then did the runs down to the bedroom wallplates and terminated those. Then did the same for the basement. I used an 8-post coax line conditioner to terminate all the coax lines in the basement. All the cat-6 went into a wireless router and a switch: http://imgur.com/MeqFKrT
I did separate runs for the family room on the first floor and three runs in the basement. In the end, I'm very happy with how it all turned out, and I would definitely do it again should I ever move.

Re:The Model F is even better
Came here to say this. The Model M is great because it's an inexpensive mechanical keyboard, but the Model F trumps it. And what trumps that are IBM's beamspring offerings. I'm typing this on a Displaywriter Keyboard I modified to output via USB. It's not the easiest solution for a nice keyboard, but on the plus side, it's fully programmable, has doubleshot keys, and is the closest I've been able to find to the feel of a Selectric. (On the downside, it's nonstandard, gigantic, and expensive.)

Pretty often in the 80's since the established genres were still being created! Today, not so much. Everything is cross genre these days.

Re:His articles on PubPeer
It seems the main concern is figure reuse. Some are in different papers with the same caption: would it be that bad as long as it is clear it's old data that's being reintrepreted ?
Looked a bit worse than that to me. Looked like he/they took figures and then manipulated them via image editor to appear to be unique, such as re-ordering elements
Even if there is a perfectly valid reason for doing that, its still a shady obscure as fuck reason. -
Re:Know who to sue
The scientist and his lawyer suspect foul play by anonymous person(s) who allegedly defamed him by posting ad hominem attacks in their pubpeer comments and then distributed those comment pages to both universities associated with him.
Any criticism of his work should be valid and fact based and that should be enforced by the site's moderators.
I am reading through the comments related to his papers on pubpeer. I haven't found any personal attacks. May be there are some in the comments I have not read yet. However, what I find is a number of papers with blatantly manipulated images, use of the same image to represent different experiments in different papers and even a combination of the two. His defamation lawsuit has no legs and the university has every right to rescind its offer. In fact they would have been complicit if they did not do so. I predict that Dr. Sarkar's next discovery will be the Streisand effect.

Enough with the proprietary hardware
I started a project, a game engine built for controlling electronics, that can do the same thing using open source hardware, and for free:

There are a several home automation companies out there (Logitech now one of them) who specialize in selling you custom hardware that is super expensive, only works with their software, and requires a certified technician any time you have problems. I can tell you from experience that they all have frustrating levels of limitations (some don't even allow for script variables), are narrowly focused on their own hardware, and get outdated very quickly. The total cost of ownership for these things are insane. I think we've made something much better.

Also, from 2008 Davos:
Just how crazy is Al Gore? That was the question that popped, once again, into my brain as I read a January 24 Agence France Press news story out of the Davos meeting of business and political elite. Gore asserted that, “the North Pole ice caps may disappear entirely during summer months within five years”
I was instantly reminded of the story that ran in The New York Times in August 2000 claiming that the Pole was free of ice for the first time in 50 million years. It wasn’t, of course, because people who have actually been to the Arctic quickly noted that, in the summer, some ice actually does melt there. The Times retracted it three weeks later.
This kind of apocalyptic nonsense has been ratcheting upward ever since the new century began and my theory is that lunatics like Al Gore know that they are running out of time when it comes to imposing draconian restrictions on the use of every form of energy known to mankind. This is the purpose of the global warming hoax.
Tha fuck is wrong with slashdot today!? Jesus Christ, Donny!

You overpaid." The boy catches up to the men at the line for the elevator and gives each of the three men a $1 refund, so they've paid $9 each. $9 * 3 = $27, plus the boy's $2 is $29. But wait. The fare was $30. Where did the extra dollar go?
Answer: Magic.
Seriously though, I blame <the other political party>.

Re:football can cause brain damage
I don't think you understand my 'ingesting photos' item. I connect my camera to my Surface via USB. Shots are immediately on my Surface. In fact, I don't even save them to the SD card, they are saved directly on the tablet. I have have 'Live View' on, to see exactly what the camera sees. This is NOT something that can be done over a network right now. Additionally, most of what I do isn't within range of a network...even cell.
I really am a 'mobile worker'. I go out an do stuff...away from networks and people. I carry as little crap with me as possible. Camera, Surface and USB cable are pretty standard.
Possibly when vineyards are networked I'll be able to work differently.
Example of what I do: http://imgur.com/a/xQ040 (I am not a pro photographer- just an IT guy who knows how to use a camera well enough to document things.)

Re:Where'd I state hosts protect vs. all threats
Yea, meanwhile, Comcast's Xfinity injection attack TOTALLY bypasses your HOSTS file. How're you going to stop that, dumbass?
Here's what your HOSTS file does to websites: http://i.imgur.com/BMR5Qnc.png
Again, my point is 100% proven. You are 100% full of shit.
I run and design websites for a job. Guess what? Your HOSTS file idea, long before you started spouting it, was one of the first things for me to bypass, by request of my employer.
And the fun part is, I can keep ads from showing to you long enough for you to whitelist the site, and then slam your ass with ads anyways. See a new IP address? No ads displays for several visits, then BAM show ads on your 5th visit from that IP.
Absolutely trivial to implement in PHP and AJAX. Takes eight lines of code. I could probably do it in two if the web supported brainfuck.

Re:And still leaking memory like a fucking sieve
Still fucking rising, just sitting waiting on the pizza I phoned in about 25 minutes ago. Same tabs, not touched shit and instead went on Camfrog to relax.

Still leaking like a fucking sieve even after upgrading (and again, the only thing installed is AdBlock Edge.)
Two images, two slashdot threads, and an HTML-based e-mail.
Over 650 fucking megs.
Firefox is fucking broken.

Re:
While you have your head tucked in the sand, this whole debacle brought out more fun goodness. Too bad you're too stupid to go looking for this shit yourself.

It goes a lot deeper here, folks
