Re:This stunt by Apple
It's posted and in full compliance. Try actually reading the court order.
As far as "having to scroll to see it", try getting a device with proper screen resolution:

Re:Apple has shown the way for Motorola.
It is easy. If you compare Samsung's pre-iPhone phones to it's post-iPhone phones you'd be hard pressed to work out exactly where the iPhone came along.
Indeed, the iPhone looks suspiciously like a lot of Samsung's pre-iPhone devices. -
Re:Apple has shown the way for Motorola.
That one is definitely more similar. But still - and I can only see it now with hindsight - the similarities between that and the iPhone are less than the similarities between the iPhone and the Galaxy S. In part because it is more rectangular - don't want to sound ridiculous, but it is noticably more square. The bottom button layout and screen aspect ratio are fairly different, too.
These nitpicky things are relevant, I think, because as I understand it the patents are supposed to prevent competitors from making something that could be mistaken for your product. They aren't a laundry-list of general design elements.

Do something like this
I did it at my own house. It doesn't cost nothing extra, it is just your imagination on what to do with your bricks.
And one day I hope this is going to be visible from space;)

Re:It's easy with an IDE
Eclipse can do it. You can setup a formatting style and then have it auto-format on save or do it manually with Ctrl+Shift+F.
Here's a screenshoft.

Re:3 year olds don't do that much.
On top of it regular desktop programs WILL NOT WORK FROM THE METRO INTERFACE.
You have obviously not actually used Windows 8, because what you have said is totally false. You start regular desktop programs from the start screen in exactly the same way as you start regular desktop programs from the start menu: by clicking on them. Just for you, I went and set up my old Win8 preview VM and took a screenshot of the start screen with some desktop programs on it. You can also do the same press-windows-key-type-first-few-letters-of-program/file-hit-enter method you can in 7 and Vista.
Think of the start screen as a start menu that happens to use the full display rather than just the left hand 1/5 of it. Have you ever, even once, needed to be able to see whatever is in the remaining 4/5 of the screen while selecting something from the start menu? It's a massive waste of space. -

How much jet fuel does it take to ship a Technet subscription?
Microsoft charges $599 in the US compared to $1048 in AU.

Re:Not only admins
PS: YOu don't really need to know how to program, if you can just identify tasks that are braindead and repetitive, that's already a plus. Then you can go and talk to someone who does know how to program, explain the problem, and this person might come up with a simple solution for you. It all boils down to this.
Unfortunately, many people are not trained to identify automatable jobs. This presumes that people who know how to program are willing to do things for you that they might reasonably expect you to do for yourself.

Re:Not only admins

That's a great graph. Took me a minute to realize that it was very strange to me to have time on the y axis, since it so rarely appears there - but once I got used to tilting my head at 90 degrees, it worked..

Slightly offtopic but on the subject of censorship
This comment was at a +5 Funny until this happened a day later. What do you think slashdot? Did I piss off a moderator, or did a bunch of people come along later that legitimately thought it was flamebait? I know that it was a bit vulgar and all, but I thought slashdot was about letting the moderation system sort these things out.

Where did you learn that? The data I have disagrees: income from recorded music is falling, but live shows more than make up for that, leaving artists better off in total.
...if they do live shows.

Re:Nokia is not necessarily ahead in 3D
On the map there is no metro symbol there, so it's not like it can mislead you.
My other post covered your failure at reading comprehension, im sorry the use of 'if' and punctuation like the question mark cause you so much anguish when it comes to parsing basic english, but anyway here's a screenshot to prove your claim of no metro symbol wrong.

With no textures...
I just took this picture on my Android device: http://i.imgur.com/42oQd.png
That's nice, but while I was not fully clear I was talking about this:
iOS does the outlines also in normal map mode, but I like being able to see the buildings from overhead at various angles.
It is true I should not say Google has no 3D support though, just no 3D imagery in mobile maps (they have some kind of beta desktop version).

The reality distortion field is strong with this one! Also, not having textures just means I'm saving that much bandwidth. :) -
Re:Honestly
Which is really sad, because (when the drivers worked properly) the cards I've had from them in the past were great. The X-Fi on Windows 7 really was good, and did give a noticable improvement over the on-board audio on my mobo. But you are quite right: they are certainly driving me away and I'm fairly sure I will not even bother putting the X-Fi back in my computer now.
Although I suppose one (good?) thing Creative did was show me what the new (friendlier!) blue screen in Windows 8 looks like: http://i.imgur.com/lk57d.png

Re:How about raster fonts
This is my coding font: screenshot It's a 4pt display of TFA's font, which almost the same but slightly clearer at that size than Liberation Mono, which I was using before.
It sometimes involves a bit of pixel hunting with digits before you get used to it, but I now use it for my standard daily coding environment. I like fitting EVERYTHING onscreen at once.

Re:Winblows, LOL
The response to "just use Linux" is usually "but... herp, it doesn't run Photoshop or Autocad!"
On a further note, I finally tried the 3D acceleration under VirtualBox after ignoring it for years. It works fine. Linux for most eveything and virtualization for the handful of legacy software packages you "can't do without."
A note about installing the 3D accelerated driver: If you are virtualizing Windows FLP, the fastest booting Windows NT driven OS of the 21'st century, you need to edit boot.ini or use msconfig to switch to safe mode, because it boots so fast that spamming the F8 key won't work.

Re:Customize
No problem.
Just check out View : Toolbars : Customize.
You get this customization dialog:
You can choose to keep the customization only in the current document (custom toolbar loads when you open the document), or you can set it to be available for all spreadsheets.
While we're on the subject, let me mention that OO is much better than MSOfc in regards to formatting (both have character and paragraph styles, but only OO has page styles). On the other hand, OO has atrocious macro writing system.
It's OK for recording and replaying a macro, but with Excel, if you record a macro, you can figure out most of the resulting VB code. The resulting OO code is totally undecipherable. Please fix this, OO devs (if you can run VB code from Excel, just use that as the default language).
-
Re:Customize
I've already acknowledged that MS Office has/used to have nice customization for the toolbar, so this isn't necessarily about M$O vs OO.
Secondly, strictly in the spirit of going to the heart of the matter, I've spent some time digging into your test scenario, and here's what I have:
Basically, a blank toolbar with most of what you referenced. In turn:
Format-Column-Hide: present
Select-Visable-Only: might have to install this OO extension
Format-Cells-Accounting: Don't quite know what accounting format is. I used Currency format.
Record Macro: I added this to the toolbar, but it's not showing for some reason. Didn't dig further at this time.
Stop Macro: present
Run Macro: I forgot to add this to the screenshot, but you can add it.
(then the old ones): what does this mean?
font size: present
underline: present
fill background blue: the background color selector remembers your previous color, in this case blue. Otherwise you'd do a macro.
(unselect your cells and select all): You don't have to unselect to select all, I put both commands in.
Format-Column-Unhide: presentBy the way, did you mean: perform all the actions above, and bind that to a toolbar button? Because you can do that, too.
Anything I'm missing? Just trying to understand what's possible and not in the latest MS Office vs. OpenOffice.

Re:Obvious troll is obvious
Apple used to have a contract to build-in Google apps, they don't anymore for whatever reason so they rolled a better solution themselves.
If by "better" you mean "worse"... Here's some screenshots someone did comparing the Apple map with the Google map for his neighbourhood in London.

Re:Still not HD?
Congratulations on completely misunderstanding the concept of double-blind. You're basically saying that it's impossible to do a double-blind comparison of club soda and water, because everyone can tell the difference. Go google it.
And regarding my screen, here is a screenshot taken on my phone. Try displaying it at 100% zoom, and then tell me it looks like utter shit. This disregards the fact that your PC monitor has a lower DPI than my phone, so it actually looks worse on the monitor than in real life. -
