How can you even talk about Marvel Comics without talking about Jerkcity?

Re:Of course. They can do no good ever.
Oh, I dunno. MS Comic Chat 2.5 was pretty decent, and is still available from their Website. I run it in Virtual PC on MacOSX when I want that... Jerkcity atmosphere in my IRC sessions.

Re:War is cool and doesn't cause any harm!"What's funny about using Microsoft Chat," he adds with a sly smile, "is that everybody has to choosean icon to represent themselves. Some of these guys haven't bothered, so the program assigns them one. We'll be in the middle of a battle and a bunch of field artillery colonels will come online in the form of these big-breasted blondes. We've got a few space aliens, too."
This is the exact same software used to run the online comic Jerkcity.
Try reading some. They're great, but they take a little getting used to. And it's absolutely hilarious to imagine to imagine generals being mapped to Spigot, Pants, Deuce, Rands, and the rest of the gang.

2-3 times *typical* cost
I think it is important to point out that the 2-3 times the *typical* cost will also yield you 2-3 times the *typical* stability and usability of comparable machines. Maybe there is an Apple luxury tax, but Apple users are more likely to be satisified.

Re:funny ascii - ascii art fartsI'm so very glad someone gave the link to asciiartfarts!!! The site rocks. And if someone out there happens to enjoy the asciiartfart sense of humor as much as I do, then you guys will also enjoy jerkcity [jerkcity.com].
Jerkcity serves out black and white gif comic strips (thereby making this posting a bit off-topic, however given the context...). Hilarious if sometimes a bit hard to follow.

Re:only Windows can do everything?
Why do so many Apple dorks think of themselves as "alpha-geeks"?
I don't know any Apple dorks, so I can't provide any insight into that particular question. However, I can explain that my choice of "alpha-geek" was influenced by O'Reilly's attempts to explain the Mac OS X attraction.
Using BBEdit is not macho, and being attracted to shiny objects is not a sign of intellegence...
Right, because Slashdotters are sooooo macho to begin with
:) Intelligent perhaps. But (couldn't resist the self-description as a "Windows dork" just for counterpoint) then again . . . -
Jerk City is better

!LOL
"Two guys who worked on SNL and the Conan show
..." .. as what, janitors? I'm sorry, but this just wasn't funny. Not even a little. If it really took two people to write this, then it's a sad, sad day for geek humor.
Now THIS is funny. Well, sort of. More worthy of front page then this trash, though! -
Santa Cruz: WRONGFrom Jan 10 Santa Cruz Sentinel:
"The Santa Cruz Transportation Commission voted Wednesday night to recommend that the City Council not wade into the debate over where the electric two-wheeled gizmo will be allowed to operate. Commissioners said that since no city employee or elected officials has ever seen the Segway in action, it's impossible to guess the machine's impact."

My favorites
My favorite web comics would probably have to be jerkcity, , and Leisure Town.
Anyone else really enjoy these? Most people either just think these are too offensive or just too far out there, but I think they're great. -
Re:heh
The Initiative for Software Choice was featured on Slashdot a while ago, when their opposition was formed: Sincere Choice . More than a tad tounge-in-cheek.
Don't be so surprised. When in politics, label yourself the opposite of your intention. Remember the "non-discriminatory" RANDs licensing that certain W3C members were promoting a while back? I particularly like the prefix "non-", as opposed to "anti-". Consider it.
Then there's the "homeland security" bill. A bill genuinely about "homeland security", but without the prepositional explanation of who's being secured.
Really, it's pretty easy to spot when people try this. Remember, organizations, people, or bills, act. They are not "about terrorism" or "about protecting". They do things. When someone says this [noun] is about [noun], the preposition is not the verb. When they say "[noun] is about [noun]", they're avoiding answering you by stating "[noun] is". It exists! Don't question it!
They're always actions. Reasonable And Non-Discriminatory licensing proposed to slacken the W3C's vigilance against proprietary siezure of W3C recommendations. Initiative for Software Chioce proposes choices to improve the economic conditions of its members. Homeland Security proposes intercommunication with agencies and increased surveilance of the populace for the purpose of securing the homeland against threats. Now, I can't stress this enough. Fuck the prepositions. They're there to tell you about intentions and ideas, not about what's actually going to happen.
Ranting? You bet! I bet you never thought that high-school grammar would ever be useful!

Everybody knows...
That the best online strips are Jerkcity, Leisure Town, and God's gift to man: Pokey The Penguin.
Those three have done some very interesting and unique things with the media other than just being print comics in cyberspace. -
Your kind of humor

(* Hmm... I have just stumbled on the "slashdot" web log. I find both it, and this story to be refreshingly homoerotic. *)
YOU THINK THIS IS HOMOEROTIC? TRY JERKCITY. -
WHY UF Just Isn't Funny
User Friendly, for as long as I've been aware of it, hasn't been funny. Obviousy I'm not the only one here with these sentiments. But why?
I believe it has something to do with the co-opting of geek culture. There's precious little difference between your average UF strip and any of the mediocre dead tree comics who made uninformed jokes about how much computers crash in your local paper's comics page. Most of their jokes aren't really that geeky - it seems like they simply pander to the wannabes, and there's nothing sadder than a wannabe geek. If you want some really geeky jokes, see the always-offensive Jerkcity for superb strips like this or this or even some of this.
Typical computer/office humor gets old real fast, just like Dilbert did. But from what I can see, UF never even had the biting humor and that Dilbert's heydays can claim. -

Michael Eisner is an IdiotCurious about who Michael Eisner's friends are? Look up "Patrick Naughton" using Google. Eisner is in way over his head, his failed ventures and public mistakes (Go, treatment of Nightline at ABC) are staggering. One can't help question his leadership.

CmdrTaco and JonKatz No Longer Sharing Semen?
A little while back there was an article on Slashdot and a debate over the virtues of homosexuality and whether or not Rob Malda's ass is "open" enough. Well here are some more cumshots. It seems an article in the New York Times (free reg) says JonKatz swallows and asks for seconds. "You always get a little more when you press the prostate with your finger" giggled the girlish JonKatz. michael could only reply with "I'M MODDING YOU DOWN UNLESS YOU GIVE ME HOT GOBBETS OF MAN PROTEIN!!!" and was severely beaten by the people who pay his salary.

Lot's of sites out there in this vein
Although Seanbaby is on the bleeding edge of the bleeding edge, I'm surprised Katz didn't mention other sites. Old Man Murray, Portal of Evil, Something Awful, Jerkcity, hell even my site, Gamer's Angst, are all sites offering a more cutting view of the world.
Seanbaby is just one of a hundred sites out there offering not just pop culture commentary, but honestly some of the more cutting edge humor available today (except for our site. Our Tshirt slogan is "They're not funny"). Seanbaby just happens to be the best at it.
More disturbing is Katz weekly trumpeting of the impending AOLTW/Microsoft/Whoever else takeover of the Internet.
Of course we should be aware about these things, of course we should celebrate sites like Seanbaby that, frankly, rock. But can we tone down the "DEAR GOD QUICK EVERYONE READ SEANBABY TO STOP THE AOL YOU GOT MAIL MONSTER OMGWTF!" hysteria?

Yeah print comics are greatNet comics are great too

hulagaglgl
There is only one online comic worth reading. I try to read it aloud every day (along with several back-episodes) to my girlfriend. I rarely amuse her, but any self-respecting, easily amused geek will find something to enjoy.
-
Jerkcity, dammit!
No mention of Jerkcity, either. What a half-assed article this was. The Chicago Tribune's really gone downhill since I was a kid. Yeah, Jerkcity's not exactly classy or sophisticated, but even they get a couple good shots in at UF and other stupid web comix. (Start with the oldest ones and work your way to the present.

LOPOW
For the not-so-faint-of-heart, keenspot has a great "List Of Potentially Offensive Webcomics". Classics such as SpaceMoose, and Celebrity Car Wash figure prominently. Also contains links to the newer low brow comics on the web.
On a completely different note, here are my personal faves: Penny Arcade, Sluggy Freelance, Exploitation Now!, MegaTokyo, Red Meat, HotenDotey, and Jerk City.
I am sure I forgot a couple of my regulars, but these are the major ones.

Yet Another Late Announcement
Geez guys, how about a little advanced notice? Parties, talks, chats, all announced the day of, sometimes after the fact! If I had been given a little advance notice I could have booked a flight to whereever this "IRC" place is, and participated.
Oh well, I guess I'll just spend tonight figuring out what this "Microsoft Chat" program is. Heheh, it looks pretty familiar!
