Considering that the findings are given back to the relevant departments to improve upon, going backwards requires that not only are services added but that their security efforts don't even improve or get worse with the new projects.

Perhaps the demands of IT in these departments have increased significantly to account for these services. Anyone know?

Just because we may allow machines the ability to make thier own decisions and possible influence some of ours, doesn't mean we're headed down the food chain. For starters there will always be a resistance to any new technology, and humans consider independance an admiral, and desirable trait. For example there are many average people who will never want to, and arguably never need to, use the Internet.

While intelligent machines could improve the standard of living world-wide, we'll balance them to extract hopefully the most personal gain.

I like this kind of "whole experience" review, but I think things like taking "two clicks" to get to the relevant system on the website is being way too pedantic.

Add to that admins who lease IP addresses for servers. You really don't need the IP address on your new dedicated server to have been recently held by a spam group.

There's nothing wrong with MS being ambitious in aiming to get new features into Vista, and even if some don't make it - there have been 4 1/2 years since the last release that should improve the usability of the widest deployed desktop OS in the world today.

You can't sledge MS for taking longer than expected to release Vista, then in the next comment complain about the lack of features.

I'm sure AOL email account holders would have a higher "hit rate" for spam conversions.

Agreed. Networking gear and configuration really is complex for non-techy households that will hopefully house the majority of wireless gear in the future. Proof is already in the number of open nodes around. If they play nice everyone wins.

While I take your point on the perception of security in the purchase, you're asking a lot of security staff to detect something deliberatly being hidden with as much accuracy as this technology suppossedly will.

Getting on public transport shouldn't require an interview, lie detector, and strip search before boarding, but it is a common terrorism target and should be protected with the highest security practical.

That's a very ambitious target if they are only offering it, not saying "you will use this".
