Re:Removal of 'gay / lesbian' is controversial??
Why should the removal of words such as "Gay" and/or "Lesbian" be deemed 'controversial'??
Because it will end up blocking The Flintstones - one of the greatest cartoons ever - just because it uses the word 'gay' in the theme song.

Re:Six Years Ago
The USA IS a republic (right there in our nati
onal anthem folks)Yep. Right there in our National Anthem. I'm a little tired, AC can you point that out for us:
The Star Spangled Banner
Oh, say! can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In fully glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust":
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.Moron. It's the US Pledge of Allegiance that talks about a republic:
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
From the linked page:
The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States is an expression of fealty to the Flag of the United States and the republic of the United States of America, originally composed by Francis Bellamy in 1892 and formally adopted by Congress as the pledge in 1942.[1] The official name of The Pledge of Allegiance was adopted in 1945. The last change in language came on Flag Day 1954 when the words "under God" were added.[2]
It amazes me that my country hasn't collapsed under the massive ignorance and stupidity of my fellow citizens.

Re:Are you trolling?
What is so bad about wanting your linage to remain pure and not become some sort of grey amalgam?
Uh, my lineage is pure. For at least a hundred generations back, all of my ancestors have been human beings. That's as pure as it gets.
As for "race", I think Pete Seeger said it well:
There were no red-headed Irishmen
before the Vikings landed in Ireland
How many Romans had dark curly hair
before they brought slaves from Africa?
No race of man is completely pure,
nor is anyone's mind, that's for sure
The winds mix the dust of every land,
and so will woman and man. -

Re:Big Leashed Brother
The criteria are already established in detail in the 4th Amendment's due process and warrants on probable cause, as brought up by another poster in this thread. With whom I agree 100%.
We need more privacy, not more, to be safe and free. Along with the legal checks and balances defined in the law after centuries of experience, like the FISA that Bush violated.
Another broken regulating mechanism is exposure of these crimes by the press. The New York Times published the story of NSA spying breaking the FISA law only after a year sitting on it, because the reporter was publishing it independently in a book. A year during which Bush got narrowly reelected, without the voters knowing they were reelecting such a criminal.
It's clear that we need more personal privacy and more public exposure. That means more rigorous laws and enforcement, including media competition so they don't protect their government patrons as much as expose their competitors'.
Instead we get the Bush campaign slogan "Don't worry, be happy." -

Re:Dumbasses
But there's a significant difference in what [you] (allegedly) did and what this kid did. If you were involved at all with the posession or sale of marijuana, that is a criminal activity. What this kid did, writing down his vulgar, but non-threatening opinions of the school is not criminal. It is, in fact, constitutionally protected.
1. There is no significant difference. In both cases, the school is overstepping its bounds, involving itself in matters way beyond its purview.
1.a A rumor of criminal activity isn't sufficient for criminal conviction in a court of law. Why should it be sufficient for a school?
2. The Right to Party is protected by the Constitution. Please refer to the famous case Beastie Boys v. Your Mom, in which the Supreme Court ruled that your mom does not have the right to throw away your best porno mag. -

Tsk. Tsk. Pop culture established this in the 1988 in the US: sex is violent. -

Re:HmmI was thinking more along the lines of the original(?) Fantastic Voyage
Hey, come on, come along take a ride
There's a party over there, that ain't no jive
It's live, live, it's all the way live
Don't even have to walk, don't even have to drive
Just slide, glide, slippity-slide
Just forget about your troubles and your 9 to 5
And just sail on (That's what you do), just sail on
Now this groove's so funky, hey, what to you think
What is it called, let's call it Lakeside stank
Come along and ride on a fantastic voyage -

Re:Damn it!
I DJ college radio, mostly hardcore and punk. I am not a "shock jock", and most of what I play and say on the air is not intended to get a rise out of people. However, I have almost been kicked off the air multiple times because of the lameass obscenity rules imposed by the FCC. Songs such as this, this, this, and this have cost me much grief in the past.
None of these songs are terribly obscene, and really, the use of this language is really commonplace in our culture now. The reason that blanket laws like this trigger kneejerk, eye-rolling reactions is because it's silly. In the same way that nobody is particularly shocked or taken aback to hear about someone smoking pot or drinking underage, these milquetoast rules dilute the force of the law because nobody takes them seriously.
Likewise, none of the songs that I posted up there are really that offensive; you'd have to be living under a rock to be offended by that. On the other hand, "obscenity" is a really slippery slope. For instance, none of these songs have any bad words.
This song will probably offend you
But what about this one? It's only kind of bad, I guess....
And what about this one?Where do you wanna draw the line?

Re:As funny as that isAEnima has 9 track of music that add up to 1 hour 6 minutes and 8 seconds of music. You're forgetting that Tool songs are unusually long. Third Eye is nearly 14 minutes, Pushit is almost 10 minutes and Eulogy is about 8 1/2 minutes long.
As for the 11 minutes and 10 seconds of so-called non-music, who wouldn't want to listen Die Eier Von Satan a recipe for cookies w/o eggs spoken to them in German.
