Apple Product Cycle
This is an old page, but its still relevant:

Re:It's not news, it's nerd porn
Sooner or later, all sought after consumer electronics have a nerd porn thread where the device gets undressed down to the bare components. This is
/. where nerds congregate so you should not only accept these types of stories but also expect them.
Heck, It'd be news if there wasn't someone taking apart the Wii.
The term "nerd porn" taken from the Apple Product Cycle although it may have originated elsewhere. -
A reminder about The Apple Product Cycle.
-
Apple Product Lifecycle
The headline reminded me of the (in?)famous lifecycle
-
Apple Product Cycle
I can't believe noone has posted The Apple Product Cycle in such a fitting article.
-
No kidding
"If you want to see where the computer industry is going, you often have to watch the computer component manufacturers"
Well we knew that -
Re:Remember the situation in which this started
Your comment actually makes the most sense out here. After all, the apple product cyle website may be a joke, but as every joke it's based on at least some truth, in this case that the enthusiasm of apple buyers starts with 'leaked' information. So normally, when a new ipod is on the release, apple can only be happy with these 'leaks'. But since this ibm/intel switch would likely refrain apple costumers from buying machines until it is sure that they can use them in the future, and apple probably didn't want to give ibm/motorola too much info on what they were planning (if it would have failed with intel, and ibm would have retracted before, what would they do?), it's clear that apple didn't want to get this big fish out. Now after this happened, they can let the little fish swim again...

Re:Not sure what it meansIt's all part of the Apple Product Cycle. Specifically:
A minor, rarely occurring flaw in the device begins to be discussed in the Apple support forums. Whiny, artistic types post lengthy diatribes about how this terrible design flaw has made the device unusable and scarred them emotionally. Electronic petitions are created demanding that Apple replace the devices for free, plus pay for counseling to help traumatized users overcome their emotional distress.

Apple Product Cycle
What, no one's posted a link to the famous Apple Product Cycle yet?
First thing that came to my mind. Not that I agree with the article (pretty far from it, actually), but it seemed an obvious link to post here. -
Re:Article Summary
You are unlikely to have dual-7800 Ultra cards running SLI with an AMD X2 with Cool-N-Quiet, and Raid 0 in a laptop.
If you did have a laptop with those specs, it might actually be hotter than the MacBook Pro ... in which case everyone would call it a "notebook." :) I reference the Apple Product Cycle (emphasis mine):The obligatory "I'm waiting for Rev. B" discussion appears in the Mac forums. People who've been burned by first-generation Apple products open up their old wounds and bleed their tales of woe.

All part of the Apple Product Cycle

Re:Why Dont you people wait.
Ladies and gentlemen, we've now reached the "I'm waiting for Rev. B" stage in the Apple Product Cycle.

Re:Waiting for the second generation
The obligatory "I'm waiting for Rev. B" discussion appears in the Mac forums. People who've been burned by first-generation Apple products open up their old wounds and bleed their tales of woe. Unsympathetic technophiles fire back with, "if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen. pussy." Everyone has this stupid argument for the twenty-third time.

Nerd porn!
Hooray! We have now entered the nerd porn phase of the Apple Product Cycle.
Sigh... if only the cached site wasn't so slow. -
bluetooth ipod is an old rumour
I was referring to an old rumour where a bluetooth ipod broadcasts whatever you're listening to the people around you so you can have you're own private ipod-based mini-radio station. It was just one of those crazy rumours that appear every year in late december and early january... ditto for the mac mini tivo thing, that was a rumour last year too.
This site: http://www.misterbg.org/AppleProductCycle/ ...does a much better job making the joke that I was trying for... -
Re:Apple iProduct. You'll buy it. And you'll like
Yep, it looks like the Apple Product Cycle is operating 100% according to spec on this one.

Where we are on the Apple Product CycleFor those keeping track, we are on the following step in the Apple Product Cycle:
A minor, rarely occurring flaw in the device begins to be discussed in the Apple support forums. Whiny, artistic types post lengthy diatribes about how this terrible design flaw has made the device unusable and scarred them emotionally. Electronic petitions are created demanding that Apple replace the devices for free, plus pay for counseling to help traumatized users overcome their emotional distress.
-
Aha!
We're now just over halfway through the Apple Product Cycle!
"Nerd porn threads appear in the Mac forums. Some lunatic with too much time and money on his hands disassembles the new device down to the bare, soldered components and posts pictures."
Possible Slashdot poll: what will be the "minor, rarely occurring flaw" that affects the video-playing iPod?
o Bad battery life
o E-Z-Scratch screen
o Doesn't play video
o Causes every molecule in your body to explode at the speed of light
o CowboyNeal -
Re:Are you saying they're lying?Ah, we're about two-thirds of the way on the Apple Product Cycle:
A minor, rarely occurring flaw in the device begins to be discussed in the Apple support forums. Whiny, artistic types post lengthy diatribes about how this terrible design flaw has made the device unusable and scarred them emotionally. Electronic petitions are created demanding that Apple replace the devices for free, plus pay for counseling to help traumatized users overcome their emotional distress.

Re:When will people learn?I see that we are now on stage 22 of the apple product lifecycle, to wit:
The obligatory "I'm waiting for Rev. B" discussion appears in the Mac forums. People who've been burned by first-generation Apple products open up their old wounds and bleed their tales of woe. Unsympathetic technophiles fire back with, "if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen. pussy." Everyone has this stupid argument for the twenty-third time.

Aah, I see we've moved on.
I wonder if this is to counter FUD or if it's just another step in the Apple Product Cycle: http://www.misterbg.org/AppleProductCycle/

Hence the Apple Product Life Cycle :)
The Apple Product Life Cycle, which a Mac developer friend told me about.

Re:Tiger
for more information, see The Apple Product Cycle. i certainly think i understand much more about the inner workings of Apple for this.

Re:Release the god damn standard already!
Well, it relies on another technology which is also very slow to adapt: HDTV. People aren't going to be interested in Blu-ray until they get a better TV, though I would love the storage space for backups - the general public probably doesn't care enough about that yet.
The only reasons DVD was so quick to adapt was because of its ability to be manufactured for dirt cheap and the huge quality jump that is to be expected when you come from media that had disappointing quality even 20 years ago.
And as for the Apple thing, you guys saw that Apple Product Cycle link a couple days ago, right? A bunch of people wearing black turtlenecks speculating is no fun, either. -
Re:Read all about it!
Honestly this seems to be little more than drumming up even more buzz over up-in-coming products. Yeah, they probably were going to keep it a secret for a while longer but now that it's out why not milk it a bit and get the word out?
This is all part of Apple's Product Cycle. Surprised it's even news. ;-)

I didn't write this, but it's appropriate
I got a good laugh out of this when I first saw it.
