For those who'd like to know more about the comic
Scott Tipton has done an excellent write up of it in his Comics 101 article series at Movie Poop Shoot. Its a bit spoiler laden though, so read with caution if you're planning on reading the graphic novel for yourself.

Next Up: Dark Knight Returns ?!
Watching this trailer, I'm imagining a movie version of Miller's timeless The Dark Knight Returns done in the exact same style.
Holy shit...if Sin City is a blockbuster...it just might happen!
Consider: the upcoming Batman Begins was inspired by the Batman: Year One graphic novel / series. I'll bet the inside story is that they wanted to adapt Dark Knight first, but decided the public might not "get it" (they're still living in Adam West-Bataman land), so they went with Sin City and Batman: Year One instead. -
anyone here remember JACK KIRBY ?
im surprised that no-one has mentioned the amazing artwork Jack Kirby did for the Fantastic Four in the 60's -
for me, the Galactus - Silver Surfer arc is perhaps the high point of Marvel comic-dom -
bringing Jack Kirby's vision of this tale to the large, or small screen has the potential, if handled properly, to be one of the greatest comic-based movies of all, imho -

so if they get the first movie right, (where we have another great character Dr. Doom, a super-villain with diplomatic immunity !) FF2 should be worth waiting for... -
Re:Ironic.
Dissecting pop culture and talking about sex is what's made Kevin Smith his fortune, and now, apparently, he's too good for it? What did I miss?
Jersey Girl? (Well, I missed it anyway.) -
This was NOT based on Asimov's storiesI heard this on TV a while back, but moviepoopchute.com has more details on the history of the script for I, Robot. The short answer, Asimov-isms were only sprinkled in after the script was written, so if you watch this expecting Asimov, you'll be sorely disappointed.
Non-spoiler excerpts:
"I, ROBOT started out as a spec script from then-unknown writer Jeff Vintar titled HARDWIRED.
... Proyas was signed and the project began to get a head of steam."Shortly thereafter, Fox acquired the rights to the I, ROBOT series (and eventually also Asimov's other classic, "The Foundation") and decided to take Vintar's script and incorporate many of the ideas from Asimov's book..."
"...Around late 2002/early 2003, Academy Award-winner Akiva Goldsman was brought in, along with INSOMNIA writer Hilary Seitz, for a polish, making the transition from HARDWIRED to I, ROBOT complete."
SPOILERS in the article!

The problem with that editorial slant...Töpfer Harry auf das Deutsch,
(C) 2003 Rogerborg. You may distribute or sell this content without restriction. Oh yeah? Well fuck Slashdot. Fuck them up their stupid asses. Who gives a shit about who created the content? I translated it, so I own it now. Yeah.
Get the point? By your smug mealy mouthed editorial slant shall we judge you.

Explanation of Two Disks
Sorry, Taco, it looks like you have to buy both releases, anyway. The two will offer disjoint viewing experiences.

Movie Poopshoot
When this topic comes up, slashdot turns into a bad movie site. Ben Affleck had it right, "Sad, pathetic little bastards living in their parents' basement, downloading scripts and what they think is inside information about movies and actors they claim to despise, yet can't stop discussing."
I love Star Wars. All of it. I walked out of EP2 DYING to see EP3 and crying that soon it would be over, with no more movies coming. I don't know anyone who was upset with the way the movies turned out. But then again, I didn't go hoping that my dark dreams from my troubled teenage years would be fulfilled with a protagonist that was me in the tight leather from the crow having kinky sex with charlies angels. I went to see Star Wars. I got Star Wars.
I realize that not everyone is happy with how their life is turning out. But that's not Star Wars' fault. Really. And if you're insights into film are so penetrating and deep, then why don't you go make one. If you can out-gross a Star Wars film, I'll listen to you. Which means the only people I have to listen to _this year_ are Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi.
If I've been insulting you here, I'll try and leave you with a positive note. Read less rumor sites and commentary and instead go and just _watch_ the movies. They are so much more fun that way. It's not G.L.'s bad directing that makes you notice it....it's Carrie Fisher's snide interview rememberances. Over-analyzing ANYTHING will make it suck for you (I know. I watched Princess Bride 50 times in a row once for a class). So don't do that.
May the force be with you.
p.s. Why do the slashdot editors keep posting negative spin Star Wars stories when their entire Sourceforge ad campaign seems to derive from Star Wars? I don't get it. -
Re:Great Ironic Humor in this Movie *Spoilers*
on This page I saw the name "Harry Balls"... I wonder if that is a swipe at Harry Knowles? The page format of MPS looks a lot like the massive-text, ALL CAPS style of the 800 pound gorrilla of pay-per-spew reviews..

Great Ironic Humor in this Movie *Spoilers*Smith pokes fun at about everything in arms reach in this movie including the audience and himself. You can measure how many Smith fans are in the audience by the laugh response to:
"I wonder if Mirimax will option Holden's comic."
"What, Chasing Amy? That'll never work as a movie."
Also, Holden's line:
"Who would go and see a movie about Jay and Silent Bob?" [Smith, Mewes, and Affleck turn to look at camera. Smith smiles.]
The best irony in the film is a joke on many levels. Jay and Silent Bob become incensed about posting on moviepoopshoot.com which is registered to:

At a deeper level though, Smith is ranting about postings on Internet message boards, made even more ironic by the focus of his site which contains an extensive message board, to which he posts. (And occasionally answers questions.)
I found the irony and asides to the camera to be great fun in this movie and would highly recommend it on the basis of in-jokes alone (Of which the material I mention is only a tiny part.) -
Bah
Here's the real movie news of the summer: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back!
