Re:Future Crew members
During early 90's Purple Motion played keyboards in a band called 'Decoryah', who managed to release two full length albums. Some information can be found here : Unofficial Decoryah page. There seems to be his more recent work at mp3.com too : Jonne Valtonen
Some other FC members are/were working at Remedy Entertainment, creating Max Payne among other things. Some others were involved with Bitboys, a small company designing 3d-hardware, and topic of a couple of articles here in Slashdot too over the past few years :)
Google also helpfully provided a semi-outdated History of Future Crew page. -
(OT) Popup crapNoryungi...
Looks like lycos is pulling yet another pseudo-popup stunt on your page.
Mozilla doesn't block this, but it ought to... Wonder if anyone has looked at it?

Re:Vinyl vs. CD cueing
Y'know, It'd be kinda tough to capitalize on it, since Some people have been working on similar software types For a good long time now, and if the name "Amiga" means anything to you, you should know it.
That being said, attempting to get certain organizations to mass-produce said file type and push to get it to a more universal and high-quality source (Not like it's not already there) would seem to be a bit futile... Radio DJs give enough exposure to commercial music than to want to bend to the will of Production-oriented DJs like Hawtin. There's enough tracklisters who promote the music to the lowest common denominator to distribute the music appropriately.
Kay. I gotta stop posting drunk. Did that just make any sense? -
Re:Lilo and Stitch all the way!
I don't know if that's a troll or a genuine anonymouscoward pickup line! if it's a troll... that's not a real troll. THIS is a REAL troll. You knows the rest! Megumi!

Ultima is coming back as wellAlthough I loved Sierra games, I always preferred certain other RPGs... For those who loved Ultima instead, there are remakes being made of them as well.

OT: Palindrome DateToo late. If you was a little quicker you could post this in a great date:
02/02/02-20:02
It was close.
Maybe next time :)
10 12 2101
BTW, I found a nice page with palindrome date It's in french but very easy to read.
Some palindromes, just for fun:
"So many dynamos!"
"Too hot to hoot."
"A man, a plan, a canal--Panama."
"Was it a car or a cat I saw?"
"Dubya won, no way bud!"

A magnificent view of the Hamersley Ranges......from a scaled-down version of Bucky Fuller's Old Man River city [pictures RH column bottom, Google or Babelfish will translate for you], probably sans the canopy. Heaps of bandwidth, regular supply trucks, an airstrip not too far away, copious silent pole-free solar power (but some wind gennies tucked away somewhere for the few low-sun days).
Other sites you may consider include near Broome, with it's fabulous beaches, or Denmark, much colder and more crowded but with many lovely large trees, or perhaps somewhere along the scenic vehicle-destroying Gibb River Road.
(some Hamersely views included here, mostly from Transmission Hill (AKA Wireless Hill or Radio Hill depending on sobriety levels) at Paraburdoo, Western Australia, some Broome views in the earlier sessions).

Where are the Asimov's laws of robotics ?
I was surprised that Asimov's three laws of robotics were not included in the list. They had such an impact on future s-f stories about robots or A.I.
Dan Simmons even coined the word asimotif (quote from the french edition) in his book "Endymion".
For those who have never heard of these laws, here they are :
The 1940 Laws of Robotics
First Law:
A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
Second Law:
A robot must obey orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
Third Law:
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
If you want to see how Asimov dealt with these, I suggest reading "I, Robot", a little old but still interesting. -
Nooo, please no!
Why the fuck does this appear on
/.? EVERYBODY with half a clue in computer stuff laughed at these guys here in France, and cursed the journalists who gave this losers such exposure.
They are just a bunch of lame'o script kiddies wannabe.
Just to give you an idea of their stupidity, their publication (Hacker'Z voice) has been repeatedly caught publishing others' articles (see for example this article at linuxfr.org) calling it their own work.
The most striking example of their kiddie-ness is probably their spelling (both in French and English); I know, I know, flaming someone on spelling isn't exactly glorious, but when the ratio goes above one spelling error per word (and I'm not making this up), you've seriously got to wonder.
Oh, but wait! They're even more sorry fucks than you'd think. Look at their über-zekure registration form for their university: yoohoo, ACTION="mailto:...". Those guys can't even get fucked to install SSL!

How to save to disk
To anyone who's been trying to get 'em to disk (esp. thoes of us on dial-up connections who want to watch these in a real framerate): Head over here and grab the ASFRecorder.
Now, go here. Left click the Windows Media Player link for the video you want.
As the video window loads up, center click and hold, then right click while still center clicking, and view source on the doc (you have to do this to get around the "no right click" script).
Extract the path to the ASX file from the HTML.
Drop that into ASFRecorder, and download the damn things
:). -
Mirror of sortsYou can also find them here:
http://daftpunknet.multimania.com/Windows Media and Real Player formats only unfortunately.

You might want to check here...
Over at the Fans for Ultima website they have quite a bit of information about the various Ultima remakes & patches in the works.
This is yanked from that page... some info on other remakes:
Monday, September 3, 2001: Remake Mania
Hello people,
This is my first news update for FfU. Maigo and I decided to share the work, so that the site sees changes more often. This one is just a news update, the subsections will be updated soon. We're glad you've stayed tuned over the past months.
A lot has happened in the fan community, with several new and interesting projects announced. Most of them try to recapture the magic of the earlier games with newer technology, so this is both for nostalgic fans and for those who never played the older Ultimas because of their dated graphics. So here are the new projects, in "chronological" order:
Ultima IV: The Dawn of Virtue: The Dawn of Virtue: Using a self-written engine similar to Bioware's Infinity engine (which powered games like "Baldur's Gate" and "Planescape: Torment"), project leader Jaako Peltonen plans to redo "Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar", released 1985. The website provides several concept renderings and drawings.
Ultima Underworld 1 and 2: Twister Software is currently working on a complete remake of the two Ultima Underworlds with a new 3D Engine. Surprising is the announcement of a multiplayer mode; up to 8 heroes will be able to explore the Abyss or shatter the Blackrock dome.
Ultima VII: The Black Gate and The Serpent Isle : Like Ultima V: Lazarus, this project is going to use the Dungeon Siege engine. Interesting are the "Expected Outcome Pictures", Dungeon Siege promotional shots showing what some Ultima locations could look like.
Ultima IX: Redemption: Another project using the Dungeon Siege engine. As a response to the plotwise disappointing Ultima IX: Ascension (Dialogue/Plot patch downloadable here), Ultima IX Redemption is not a remake, but a completely new attempt at finishing the trilogy of trilogies. Avatus, the project leader, promises a rich and compelling storyline with several endings, depending on your decisions.
A similar attempt is Ultima IX: Eriadain, which will make use of the upcoming Neverwinter Nights engine.
Ultima IV: Elijah: Elijah rocks. Plain and simple.
This means that teams are working on remakes for every Ultima except 2, 3, 8 and the Worlds of Ultima series. That's a lot. It's great to see that the community is that active. If even half of these projects get finished, we'll have a lot to play in the future.
All the announcements have inspired Evil_Freak Dragon to write a pretty hilarious story featuring all the major projects. "Lazarus' Redemption Prophecy: A Legend is Reborn with the Dawn of Elijah's Great Balls of Fire" features some insider humor, but it might still be a great read even if you aren't involved in any of the projects.

Re:Holy crap! There's a world outside the USA!
I failed to mention that it's also been less than maybe 2 or 3 months of the Japanese release. So sue me for forgetting a detail. Wait, this day and age. Don't. speaking of forgotten details on my part, what really gets me is that this emulator can play COMMERCIAL games. Check out the compatability list here It's in french, so you non french speaking folks might want to translate it.

GNU Visual Basic compiler
Where is the Gnu/VB compiler?
They're working on it. Or you can use Glade to design your GTK+ program's interface layout. Besides, VB sucks for real projects.

OT: Auto-submission scripts
Heh, thanks. Someone got me once. Now I've become a little more cautious.
This one uses a cgi, so you can't get the source, but here is another way of doing it (save it locally and open it with vi, if you're paranoid like I am now).
I'm not too well versed in http, but couldn't the slashdot comment submission script be patched to check for the referrer field of the browser and reject it if it isn't coming from slashdot.org?
