Re:Wind-up flashlight? ThinkgeekAnybody know where to get a good windup flashlight, probably a white led one?
Try Thinkgeek.

$200 vs. $40
Or just use this "universal card manager."

I ought to buy two...... Anti-SCO T-shirts. Just when I think it can't get even worse, my shirt is in the wash.
This thread is at the end of it's life. What's one more post?

Why on Earth or Mars not use an Eluminx?
Granted, you already have a keyboard and thus it's free. But I've got one of these (blue lights, black frame) and it's wonderful. Just like a notebook keyboard - perfect for coding: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/keyboard

ummm...
The TouchStream from ThinkGeek does this more or less.

A faster way...
Thinkgeek sell a motorised platform you can attach a laptop to called the ER1 Personal Robot System.

Mod Parent Up
This is exactly right. The problem is that your cat is trying to communicate with you. Its basically saying, "You spend a lot of time in here, so therefore I should destroy what is taking you away from me--so you can play with me instead!" Getting another cat will undoutedbly take its attention away from the cables behind your computer, and instead focus on the other animal in the apartment.
The other solution is to (gasp!) actually play with your cat. I mean, how hard is it to get a laser pointer and send your cat tearing about the place like a nitro-funnycar? Might I suggest the Green Laser Pointer from Thinkgeek.com?
Or you could always call Confuse-A-Cat LTD... -
Re:How about selling on ebay...
YAY! I'm worth $200.
To an Anonymous Coward. I wouldn't start planning my shopping spree yet.
To answer your original question -- I'd probably pay $10 for your number, just like I'd pay it for the other, much higher number. $10 just happens to be the amount I've set aside for "frivolous 'net stuff" this week. Sorry! -
Logitech Pen
I'm a college student too, and the main attraction of tablet PC's is the ability to take class notes in a form that's compact, easily searchable, and easy (and cheap) to share. If you're like me, you might want to check out the Logitech io Digital Pen. I haven't seen it in action, but it seems perfect: take notes on a normal pad while the pen stores everything you write so you can archive it and search for information later. It's also much cheaper than the price difference between a laptop and a tablet - only $175 or so.

thinkgeek shirt?back long ago, I got a couple of the DeCSS shirts from Think Geek as part of the silly-protest thing.
So umm...not that it would be protesting anything really, but when can we buy shirts with a bit of this on it?
;) -
Solved
Get a Roll up keyboard (no clicking), and a touchpad mouse (or one like on a laptop).
No sounds at all. -

Re:So Just how screwed up are these companies?!?!
"Use the damned software!". Really, I dont know why people seem to think they should have complete freedom on a computer at work. The company owns the machine, and the company chooses the software... so long as the company involved the proper employees in evaluating which is the best software(s) to use... thats it, end of story. Employees really shouldnt have a choice one way or another.
To quote Mary Poppins "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down". People don't like change, if my boss told me that tomorrow we're going to start using black swingline staplers instead of the red one that I love then I would probably complain. I would complain less if the stapler replacement was given to me by an attractive brunette who bats her eyes. This company found a way to make a change without destroying overall morale, what's wrong with that? -
Re:Theres a name for this....
"and they got a senior chairwoman to demonstrate the new system to the troops"
Sex sells. A tight tux shirt certainly helps. -
Lots of uses for Piezoelectric
These things might make cool rave lights since they would glow so when people dance! And they wouldn't run out, so they would be reusable for the next event.
But seriously, PiezoElectric power will likely be used as a parasitic power source for lots of small devices. Self-charging laptops, Forever Flashlights, etc. It might be the only way to power nanoscale devices like found in The Diamond Age -

Re:Oh god noActually...
A little while ago I was deciding what case to get for my PC and I settled on an Antec Lanboy. Now all I really wanted was an aluminum case and a good power supply and as it turns out the Lanboy had both of those for $75 less than I could get a normal looking case and Antec power supply. I went for it and ended up with a silly silver painted case that has a plexi glass window and a blue light.
I figured I could live with it but I'm going to have to tart it up a little. I've got a Type-R sticker for the non-window side and I'm trying to figure out how to make some sort lexan fin to stick on the top.
If you can't laugh at yourself...

Re:Gosh, it's on a website, it must be trueWell... if it's worth anything, I was laid off last week after almost 10 years working for this one company (outsourcing was the reason). I called a few people here and there and two hours later I had an offer. These have not stopped ever since. One company alone (in the Silicon Valley) was filling over 50 software engineering positions). Something is definitelly going on.
There is this poster at thinkgeek.com that reminds me a lot about those folks here. This may give you a clue...

Buy your own from ThinkGeek!Here.
And yes, they do actually work quite well.
My cousin had one (got it for free somewhere) and we were taking turns knocking ornaments off the christmass tree with it this past december, from a different room.Tm

new product for thinkgeek.com
This would be much better than the Airzooka toy. Not only could you mess up someone's hair from across the room, you could probably stop their heart as well.

Beer!
How about some #include <beer.h> glasses and some really high quality beer?

It's pretty sad...
when "geeks" perpetuate their own stereotypes. Are so many of you really that deprived of, and desperate for, sex? My boyfriend is a geek and proud of it (among other things, he codes like a god and reads Slashdot numerous times daily). His geekitude is one of the many things about him that I find insanely sexy - so much so that I can't keep my hands off him. In fact, though I'm the more sexually experienced between us, sex with him is the absolute best I've ever had, bar none.
His gifts for this Valentine's Day include items from ThinkGeek and Xandria Collection.
Maybe you should all focus more on the value of a great personality, caring, consideration, and treating women with respect, and less on the whole "geeks are losers and can't score" fallacy. Yes, my guy is also a cutie, but that's not why he gets frequent fellatio!
(And, because he does read here constantly, I'm posting anonymously so as not to give away his V's Day surprises, not because I'm the least embarassed about anything in this post.) -
He's into Megatokyo, obviously...

Want my geek?
I misread the title of this post as "Want to Get My Geek for Valentine's Day?" and thought, oh great, now people are auctioning off their geeks?
What is this world coming to?
Hey, maybe ThinkGeek could sell geeks. -
Something cute...
I'll recommend something cute. Ya know all those beanie babies? Well, something along those lines:
FreeBSD Plush Daemon
Or, if you must and he's much more of a linux geek:
Tux Stuffed... Thing
But really, I've been reading and seeing things about useful or even presents in general. Since when is Valentines day about spending money on people? It would seem the marketters really are having an impact.
When I want presents, though, I want something I'm going to use. I don't want something I may use once or twice and then will shove out of the way somewhere and that I would feel guilty about throwing away... useful, so I can think of where it came from often and it's never "in the way". It's only in a convenient location.

Although they forgot some errors that would be equally amusing
402 "Payment Required"
405 "Method not Allowed"
411 "Length Required"
500 "Internal Server Error" (you know, for that time of the month)
503 "Service Unavailable"
If you've read this far I'm sure you can tell I'll be on my own for Valentine's Day. Fuck. -
Hmm...Someone posted Think Geek's Valentine's gift suggestions. Nothing really interesting there, but I was kind of wondering if they could make handcuffs out of these. Or a dog collar.
You also kind of have to wonder about this as a "romantic" gift...or does it fall under the "do we really want to know" category?

I find that LED clocks are more intuitive. People who say they can't read them must just be stupid and unable to read the most intuitive clock in existence.

Why not go to the ThinkGeek Caffeine Shop? They've got everything you can name, caffeinated! </advertising>

Up for 8 hours? It's not that hard.
I know this doesn't really address the topic at hand, but if you are having trouble staying up for 8 hours without coffee, maybe you should change your lifestyle a bit. I'm not talking anything drastic here, but I'd suggest drinking water instead of coffee and sleeping more. I find I'm much more alert at work when I get 6-7 hours worth of sleep, instead of 3-4 or so. And water is better for you than coffee anyway.
And if that still isn't enough, you can always try pills. -
Since you mention "webcam"

How can he afford the trained monkies to write these things?
Obviously you haven't read many Geek T-Shirts lately. -
Re:I call movie rights!
Considering how vocal
/.ers are with the edit of certain movies, the overall content of others, and the dasterdly characters in one in particular- I would think a collabauthored script by the whole of /. would turn out okay.
Start one up! Relentlessly post for ideas, and use your journal to suggest a plot outline - invite twists and geeky stuff.
My own contribution? That the geek hero is caught trying to lift a hot chicks skirt with one of these while his geekier friend gets all hyper because he just got this thing up to 1 million rpm. Oh - and she should be wearing these - and geek 1 should use the expression "That, my friend, if fuckin' bitchin'"
