There are scary and fantastic creatures in the world today. For example Red River Gorge is plagued by flying snakes and flesh-eating termites!

Re:nasa! make money fast!
They better be careful on the dark side of the moon. I read that there is an alien base with a death ray hidden there. If they could get N*Stync blown up, but not themseves, that would be cool!

Re:I'm REALLY confused :(
Microsoft Says IBM/Linux Their Biggest Threat. Maybe they read this article. While the thrust of it is Carly Fiorina, and HP, it does mention how IBM is using Linux against Microsoft. Never forget, IBM is big brother!

Re:Article
Bruce Perens should at least give a speech about how it theoretically could be done instead of demonstrating it, or read the presentation Edward Felten was intimidated into not giving, If Felten would be willing to share it. Any one who wants to be sure not to violate the DMCA can read this article, and avoid a senseless blunder that might get them into hot water.

Cincinnati, Oh.
Cincinnati had 11 or 12 show up over the course of the night. At least half were members of CINPA (CINcinnati Networking Professional Association) members. We talked about our tech toys, work and school experiences. I talked about my websites, Uncoveror.com and Dontbuycds.org, and gave out copies of The Uncoveror newsletter. It is good we met at a resturaunt, and not a bar because one slashdotter named Matt was a high schooler who couldn't have got in otherwise. We had fun, and will do it again next month.

Nasa getting back to high tech.
Perhaps since they are developing hypersonic aircraft, they will scrap the X-4000 Launch Aparatus. I hope they have better luck with these these aircraft than they do with Mars probes.

Re:Internet traffic doubles every 100 days.?
Now that the bubble has burst, WorldCom(edY) plans to pay its remaining employes with funny money, and open company stores where they can use it. It was all Scott Sullivan's idea.

Re:goodbye HP
Cutting off Dell will make sure they go elsewhere (lexmark, canon) if their own brand fails, and they have to buy from another printer manufacurer again. It's all part of Carly "The Hatchet" Fiorina's plan to destroy HP. She is an IBM mole!
-
Re:Now is the time ot buy the stock
You are assuming that the restructuring plan won't fail. That is a big gamble. Worldcom's restructuring could fail, and it could still go away. If that happens, the stock is worthless paper, much like the "Bernie Flickers" they plan to start giving to their employees, instead of US currency.
-
Re:Saw this on coming.
As part of their restructuring, Worldcom is going to start paying it's employees in company script, which will only have value in the company store.

Ivory tower academics are so naive.
Richard A. Muller doesn't have a clue. In his sheltered ivory tower, he doesn't see that 2004 will be 1984. Big Brother is probably watching you right now!

Microsoft Dealing in reality?
If microsoft is really going to stoping spewing nonsense, and start dealing in reality, maybe they will drop their lawsuit against Andersen and Pella for using the term, "windows."

You haven't heard the half of it! Those pop up ads contain subliminal messages. It is far worse than you think it is.

You haven't read the half of it. These pop-up TV ads contain subliminal messages. They are going way too far!

...and snake oil is real, and it works.
Heart attacks can be used as a treatment to cure heart disease. If you are blown away by that, you should also know that snake oil is real, and it works!

Dont eat "diet" foods.
One study says "cut out fat." Another says, "cut out carbs." The real problem is that "diet" food is making Americans fat. That stuff is doped up to keep people using it!

Bad news comes in twos
Video games rot your brain, and bleaching hair causes brain damage. Since today's kids love both of these, they may be so out of it by age forty that they need to be put in nursing homes!

Re:Could make for some interesting partnerships...
Thanks to a recent court ruling, they are now able to just call it chicken again. And it's not just at KFC anymore.

RIAA is afraid of losing power over artists.
"I made you a star, and I can take it away!" This has been repeated by record company leeches to artists like a mantra. Peer to peer file sharing made it possible for artists to see that fans alone decide who is and isn't a star. This terrifies the recording industry. While Napster, Audiogalaxy, and the like were in their heyday, new artists were able to find their audiences without selling their souls. This pointed out how unneccesary the leeches really were. Read more at www.dontbuycds.org

Forget the Snopes story that says Chick'n isn't real. We investigated it at The Uncoveror, and found that it is real. Here is the original Chick'N story, and it's follow-up.

NASA has a similar plan.
If a trebuchet made of lego will throw a marble fifty feet, imagine how far one several stories high could throw an object! NASA is betting they could use one to launch satellites into space. It will be called the X-4000 Launch Aparatus.

Re:RIAA Chase?
I wish I had mod points. That site is absolutely hilarious!
check out this article they posted on the V-Chip. It had me rolling. -
Re:RIAA Chase?
Curiously enough, Sony is a member of the RIAA. They don't have a problem with developing this unit, because it is part of their pay-for-play radio scheme.

Re:Tap tap tap
That article did not mention the "any" key, and many people still get confused looking for it. If you are one of them, here it is. The "any" key is unmarked due to a dispute with its inventor Milton Crane, formerly CEO of Typewriters International of Toledo.

Re:Gaaah! FUD from hell
Instead, the industry has focused on lawsuits against for-profit piracy outfits. Just who are these outfits? They certainly don't mean the booths at flea markets. Those are there week after week. Not all of them sell pirates, but you can always spot some who do. The RIAA doesn't even consider them competion. P2P is really a treat to their power over artists. The old system gave the the ability to arrrogantly tell artists, "I made you a star, and I can break you, so you better do it my way!" P2P has made it abundantly clear that fans decide who is a star, and this scares the recording racket's power brokers. To read more about that, check out an article entitled What Is Piracy?

Re:About time
The real problem is that fair use is a gray area. It does not have an ironclad legal definition. There have been cases where one thing or another has been ruled fair use, but whether file trading is fair use will have to be decided by the courts. Many of us firmly believe that file trading is fair use, and hope the courts will agree. An idea, once expressed, naturally belongs to the public domain, but is loaned to copyright and patent holders to encourage innovation and creativity. To read more on this subject, I suggest following the linkslisted on dontbuycds.org

Re:Forget bigger numbers, how about smaller words?
Another great challenge would be to express the value of Pi absolutely using a mixed number, rather than a decimal. For a simpler challenge, check this out.

Nothing is something
Let me see if I understand correctly. Not only is nothing now something, but someone owns it, and will sue if you use it. I hope this lawsuit will point out to legislators and courts worldwide how copyrights, patents, and other "intellectual property" laws no longer stimulate innovation or creativity, but have become nothing but a money grab scam. The following sentance used to be a double-negative, but is now perfect english. Don't buy nothing from the recording industry.

Re:Oh, come on...
Return it to Honduras? No way! We should return it to the moon! If they crank up the tension enough on the X-4000 launch aparatus to send it back.

Bad businesses? Pet shrinks?
Pet psychology is the silliest business I ever heard of. Divx movies were a close second. How about a good business idea, such as Pre-paid Illegal Services?

Aluminum won't block enough signal. You need tin, or lead, and lead has it's own set of problems, such as being really heavy. It works for V-chip, and will work for your brain!

Re:GATOR IS A VIRUS!!!!
I had to dissolve a web ring I started called "The Real News," Which included
,my site and several others because webring.com was trying to feed gator, and other spyware such as weatherbug to anyone who visited my webring hub. I asked them to stop, but their boss told me I would have to pay a monthly fee to supress ads. Gator is the worst trojan horse ever written, and webring.com deserves to be another dead dot com. By the way, when Gator users store their passwords and credit card numbers so they can fill out forms, Is the Spyware sending those out, or making it easier for hackers and crackers to get at them? I would not be surprised. -
How much privacy?
How much privacy do we have? Nearly none, but at least we can stop them from watching us while we watch TV.

Lasers in space?
Lasers in space? They don't have to look far. In fact, NASA knows about a giant "laserbeam" on the moon!
-
Re:YEAH!!
Throw in a Web TV, and they got something! Does Ultimate TV already have that? I'm not sure. Such a box would have everything the average idiot could ever want in a computer, but it doesn't look like a computer, so it won't scare them. If any technophobes are reading this, and you are still looking for the "any" key, Here it is!

Good for the European Space agency!
An unmanned, horizontally launching, space shuttle. Good for the European Space Agency! NASA's low-tech cost-cutting plan, the X-4000 Launch Aparatus might be the best we can do here in the states.
-
Aging shuttles may be retired.
It is a good thing the cancelled the launch. Considering the age of the shuttles, I would wager that they will find cracks in Columbia and Endeavour as well. Maybe they will just retire the fleet. Nasa may be ready to unveil the new X-4000 Launch Aparatus

Re:Come on and ride the Train
Not only do radio stations want payola from the record labels, the RIAA wants payola from listeners. Pay-for-play radio is their latest scheme.http://www.uncoveror.com/radio.htm

Taken over?
Perhaps this satellite has been taken over by an extra-terrestrial intelligence. It may be the same Space Invaders fom that picture. http://www.uncoveror.com/invaders.htm
One can only wonder what messages they intend to send, and if they are listening for us to respond. -

I wonder if they plan to capture these monkeys and put them in zoos? I wonder if they can throw rocks as accurately as Hamadryas Baboons and Chimpanzees? Baboon Fracas!

Re:Great!!
Mars once was warmer, and had liquid water. Well duh! We have know this since the Viking mission in the seventies.
