Re:So?
Yup, trust has sunk that low. And not without very good reasons.
It is time somebody told you about these: https://www.walgreens.com/stor...
Western family law can hold you responsible for the child even if you are not the birth father. Men are in a very precarious position legally because of common law relationships which hold you in the role of a "father figure" especially if the woman is living under your roof. In that circumstance you have less than three months to verify paternity. Any more than that and you are on the hook for child support payments until the child is 18.
There is very little downside for women putting men in this position and it's a big reason why men commit suicide.
-
Re:So?
I wonder if this might help overcome some of the distrust that has arise over the last decade. When the female pill was invented it was very liberating for women, and while things are different for men today perhaps it might also help some men who have anxiety about unwanted pregnancy.
My guess is that it won't. A woman can have multiple partners, become pregnant, and pick which one she wishes to raise a child with. The claim would be that the birth control somehow . Not all countries allow the man to DNA test his presumed children. I'm not even certain that a vasectomy would be protection.

Re:escaping authoritarian medicine
Free market medical move #1 was ending the ACA (Obamacare) mandate which would financially lock most people into FDA monopoly medicines and often poorly performing maimstream medicine. Many problems can be better addressed by the closer-to-natural-biochemistry of supplements, but first you need a little money leftover to start.
Niacor is just niacin. There's no patent on Niacin since it's a natural vitamin. You can still buy Niacin without any prescription for cheaper than it was on prescription before the change.
So... your rant about Obamacare and natural supplements doesn't make any sense but the actual story doesn't make any sense either, so I guess you win?
I'm guessing it's like if AOL raised it's rates 800 percent. People like you would immediately blame government interference even though that has nothing to do with it and subscribing to AOL is totally pointless anyway. -
Re:Oh please
But you could do that, only much cheaper, if this lobbying nonsense didnt drive costs up. Since it's a 'medical device', its controlled and expensive.
UK Price 12.5 BP and no prescription required
US price 39.99 USD
That's for 3 pairs of 2 wk disposables. OP's post is for daily disposable garbage at 30 USD a month. -
A use for my TENS unit
A better use for my TENS unit. It ain't getting rid of the beer gut or hemorrhoids. I'm going to stick the pads to either side of my face and have it going during the interview. Could be interesting. I should probably use new pads too.

Walgreens lists it as in stock
> If anybody knows of a chain store in California or Nevada where I can buy potassium iodide supplements or tincture of iodine, over the counter, please let me know.
The very first place I tried was Walgreens. You didn't say what part of California, so at random I checked availability in San Francisco. Here's one brand:
https://www.walgreens.com/stor...
Of course Amazon will deliver it right to your door.
Your difficulty finding it may indeed have something to do with illegal drugs. Not quite in the way you were thinking, it seems.

Re:You need crappier doctors
The requirements are so high because of AMA lobbying: they keep them that way, limit medical schools, and make sure that patients must see physicians even for problems that could be addressed by nurses or pharmacists.
What kinds of problems are those? As far as I know, patients can see nurses for minor problems that can be addressed by nurses (specifically nurse practitioners). The clinics in pharmacies and supermarkets (e.g., CVS Minute Clinic, Walgreen's Healthcare Clinic, The Little Clinic, Rediclinic) are generally staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Re:= paracetamol
We have at least one instance of that in the US - Excedrin. Their "Extra Strength" formulation has the exact same amounts of the active ingredients as their "Excedrin Migraine" and "Excedrin Menstrual Complete". At least at Walgreens Online they charge $17.99 for 200 Extra Strength caplets and $18.49 for 200 Migraine caplets. In the actual brick-and-mortar stores the prices are usually identical. Walmart's prices are the same.

Re:Catahoula hog dog
I'm sorry - your ignorance is simply astounding, or perhaps your trolling skills are epic.
The name Aspirin is used when selling a NSAID. That means it contains one of the group of drugs that are summed up as NSAID. I'll bet that it's the cheapest of the bunch. Better for profits that way..
That is ludicrous - and would also be illegal. If the word Aspirin appears in the ingredients, THAT'S WHAT'S IN THERE. As I unsuccessfully tried to explain, the word NSAID is not an ingredient, it is a description of what type of drug aspirin is. Did you not see the antacid example? Are you now going to rant that 'antacid' is an ingredient and not a description?
Are you going to claim that this medication can have any "Pain Reliever / Fever Reducer" in it since the ingredients are listed as "Acetaminophen (500 mg)Pain Reliever / Fever Reducer"?
I tell you what, take a bunch of pills to your local college chemistry department and have them do a mass spec analysis on them - you'll find that what I'm saying is true.
If I've not convinced you by now, I will never be able to bring you out of your delusional world. Good luck finding 'pure aspirin'.

Re:Catahoula hog dog
I'm sorry you have trouble with simple reading comprehension.
From this site for 500mg Bayer Aspirin (click on "ingredients"):
Active Ingredients
Aspirin 500mg (NSAID)Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug, Pain Reliever/Fever Reducer
Note that the only active ingredient is ASPIRIN, which is an NSAID - that's why they show that. NSAID DESCRIBES the aspirin, it is NOT an ingredient separate from aspirin.
Here's another example of a description in the ingredient list:
Active Ingredients
Calcium Carbonate (500 mg)Antacid
Note that "Antacid" DESCRIBES Calcium Carbonate and is not an ingredient in addition to it.
Here's one that shows only aspirin:
Active Ingredients
Aspirin (81 mg)
Inactive Ingredients
Black Iron Oxide , Colloidal Silicon dioxide , Cornstarch , FD&C Yellow 6 Aluminum Lake , Hypromellose , Microcrystalline Cellulose , Polydextrose , Polyethylene Glycol , Polyvinyl Acetate Phthalate , Propylene Glycol , Shellac Wax , Sodium Alginate , Sodium Bicarbonate , Stearic Acid , Talc , Titanium Dioxide , Triethyl Citrate

Re:LatexHell, I actually never knew that men could be allergic to condoms. I found this site: http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/id/QAA368178
One interesting tidbit from that article:If you are affected, you can opt for polyurethane condoms, which protect against pregnancy just as well. Polyurethane is thin and strong and effectively conducts body heat and, according to some reports, is more compatible with sexual pleasure than latex.
I've never heard of polyurethane condoms either. Hell if I didn't find them at Walgreens! ( http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/trojan-supra-lubricated-premium-polyurethane-condoms/ID=prod2303823-product )

Re:Democracy?
The FDA jurisdiction over medical tests (as opposed to therapeutic drugs) is interesting.
I once researched this. The manufacturer has to give the FDA enough information that the FDA has to certify that tests used for medical purposes are accurate.
Question: Exactly what do they accurately measure?
Take this test, for example: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/at-home-drug-test,-marijuana/ID=prod375983-product
Is it enough to measure the presence of marijuana (with 99.9% accuracy)?*
Or is the medical question whether the person being tested has marijuana abuse, which means that marijuana use is interfering with education, recreation, social functioning, or some important life function?
Suppose a parent tests his teenager for marijuana, and beats her if she fails the test. Does the FDA have to consider those broader results of testing?
The FDA had a bit of trouble with these tests, and finally decided that their responsibility ended at certifying that it accurately indicated the presence of marijuana.
In 23andme, the FDA seems to be saying that it's not enough to report the results accurately (or within the stated accuracy), but they have to consider the consequences of finding out the results.

Re:Why reduce the DPI instead of using larger font
Reading glasses - they are cheap ($5) and available (Walgreens).
Why everyone feels the need to solve easy problems with complex solutions, I will never know.
Yeah, why design or buy a tool that is convenient and pain-free to use when we could just make every human being strap a different tool onto their face.
And why do these exist when Walgreens carries a simple solution for this problem, too?

Re:No....
Yep it does put a little more strain on the wrist. I found that raising the mouse a bit, by using a large book/object, say a copy of the 1st edition AD&D dungeon master's guide, helped. Lap pads/desk pads work too. Or some of those little tables with the base that slides under the chair designed for less mobile folks.
http://www.walgreens.com/search/search_results.jsp?term=table&wsection=P
I must admit that I normally had the PS2/have the PS3 sitting on a computer desk (because I have Linux installed) so I only did the above when I moved it temporarily to the big TV in the living room for some purpose. But it worked well enough for playing EQOA, FFXI, Half-Life or Deus Ex.

Re:Caffeine or coffee?
Indeed. Some of us don't like coffee (nor all the other compounds in it). Even if you do, it takes time to drink it. And it tends to be expensive these days. I find caffeine pills are far cheaper, easier, and are exactly as effective. Probably safer, too.

Re:Not likely
Hardly, given the crop of craptacular Republican candidates.
Craptacular Rebs., Craptacular Dems. It's a fairly even race given that (once again) we have a 'lesser of two evils' election coming. The only real point is that politics are far outside the mainstream desire. There's very little politicians that represent what the majority of American's want, which is why we'll probably be arguing who really won the next presidential election.
What scares me? The group of people that feel government should have more power and tax us all to hell because "the government knows how to spend our money better than we do". The whole "tax and spend" crowd is just ridiculous. Sadly, Republicans are spending like Democrats and Democrats are spending more than Republicans.
What else scares me? Those that feel they need to force their beliefs on others, be it religious or otherwise. The government should not be poking their nose in personal affairs such as trying to ban gay marriage. Let gay people live their lives. It's none of your business. Likewise, don't give me this bullshit fois gras ban or trans fats. There might be some backwards merit in it, but tell me what I can or cannot eat. As far as I'm concerned, they're all the same. It's far better to educate people to trans-fats, heck, require it to be more obvious what is/is not good for you. Educate the people, don't force it down their throats.
American's don't need national health care, like Billory thinks. We need to CHEAPER health care. The Gov. needs to regulate the oligopoly of health care and their costs. A good way to start is to increase competition. These 'convenient care' health centers that are popping up in Wal-Greens and Wal-Marts are a step in the right direction. Cheap, fast, and professional health care centers. Sure, you're not going to get surgery there, but for the common cold, check-ups, rashes, etc. (you know the majority of health care needs), it's a great thing. How much will insurance cost/cover if your doctor visit only costs $30 instead of $300 for 10mins of care?
You might be following me now. It's all party lines, it's all politics. There needs to be a lighting bolt 3rd party candidate that can play to both sides and show what Americans are really feeling. Not just the extreme right and left isles.

Small Composition Notebook
Check out here.
Alright, so you probably don't want the Lisa Frank version, but Walgreens has other similarly small, $1 notebooks to choose from. I speak from experience when I say that these things are a lot better than Palm Pilots and other PDAs. They're more portable, you don't have to worry about battery life, and you don't have to deal with carrying around a keyboard or trying to use the hand writing recognition software. -

The local report from St. Louis..
Well, let's see..
Where I work part/full time, Steak N Shake, we were closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas (normally 24/7).
The Denny's closest to us was closed, but I heard one out a bit further was open (also normally 24/7).
Walgreens around here has some stores open 24/7 (which I think are still all open), and some stores that are only open regular hours (in which case I think they all ran on their Sunday schedule).
As always, 7-11 is open.
On my way home from the family dinner, I cruised by QuikTrip (the local 24/7 gas station) as my tank was low, and it was open.
This morning I saw an ambulance flying down the street, so I know they're working as well.
Honestly, I can't remember a Thanksgiving or Christmas where I have worked (although I've worked plenty of day-befores and day-afters). I guess I'm kinda lucky.
