First, to be pedantic, let me remind you that we are in an ice age right now: there are permanent ice caps on the planet that don't disappear in the summers. The detailed place we are in the cycle is that we are in an "interglacial" period, but overall, yes, we're still in an ice age.

It's quite well accepted that the glaciation cycle is driven by Milankovitch variations, the pattern of solar insolation (short for "incident solar radiation," by the way) across the northern and southern hemisphere. Carbon dioxide and water vapor, however-- the greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere-- are the amplifiers that turn the relatively small insolation changes into global temperature changes.

As the cycle of increase of glacial and interglacial periods go, the record is very clear: glacier advance correlate with reduced carbon dioxide, and glacier retreat trends with increased carbon dioxide. The way I handle such issues is to look at the big picture. I don't know exactly what is happening with Microsoft and Windows, but there are many, many reports that indicate crazy things are happening.

Another example: I don't know what happened on 9/11/2001 at the World Trade Center, but it is interesting that Marvin P. Bush, the president's younger brother, was a principal in a company called Securacom that provided security for the World Trade Center.

I don't know if warming is happening. I don't believe anyone anymore either. I used to try to find raw sources, but I've been told dozens of times that I can't be expected to understand temp data and hell, it's probably been tweaked anyway. It's hard to imagine that 7 billion people busily generating heat and burning hydrocarbons wouldn't have SOME impact.
All I know is that the paleotemps seem to indicate very quick spikes of temperature and CO2 every 120k years or so for the last 2+ million years. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleoclimatology#/media/File:Vostok_Petit_data.svg)
The current spike looks EXACTLY like the others, and is coming pretty much right on time.

For me, the AGW crowd has failed to explain in broad terms why something that's happened periodically, and is happening again, is somehow "THIS TIME" characteristically different than all the previous instances.

What does "climate change" actually mean? since the climate has always been changing. And how does handing over your earnings and freedoms to politicians solve climate change anyway?

Reducing CO2 may become necessary, but at the moment many real climate scientists state that the case is not clear that it is yet necessary, and it is not clear how de-industrialization of the West could actual reverse temperature variability that seems far more dominated by natural processes than human emissions.

Here is a tidbit, but we can go further. For example Opium production in Afghanistan was prohibited under the Taliban and right before the war Opium production was at record lows. Right after the invasion opium production goes to all time highs and has remained at all time highs ever since. There were plenty of lies regarding nearly every war, it's a question of whether or not there was also enough justification for "bad" to start the war. I don't believe any of our recent wars have such justification, but of course that is my educated opinion.

It does not discount what is obvious and provable collusion between huge corporations and Governments, which we have plenty of _proof_ for in the US. Please note the first release was 35 years (more of a quibble and still a remarkably long time) and it was done by people working at a federal agency, not by an outside party using FOIA. Please also note that the memorandum outlined over a dozen covert actions and among them were several domestic terrorist acts. Most if not all were designed to be bloodless, from my reading. Had they happened it's anyone's guess as to unforeseen consequences, of course.

The first half of the web page presents from what I can figure a pretty good account with a timeline for the release of documents. It iterates the account at Wikipedia and for all I know uses the same sources if not just lifting it.

So, the first release comes from a federal agency in 1997. Several sites have photocopies of the memorandum. I used "operation northwoods" as search term in duckduckgo for all of this.

All accounts are a retelling from that point, some better than others. As for Bamford's book, I'd have to start with looking at his footnotes and sources, particularly where he seems to be rather free with quotations from conversations. If he had good additional sources, on or off the record, it would help to more easily accept his version.
